JAMES BAMFORD'S BLOG
STARGATE ATLANTIS STUNT COORDINATOR

Thursday, July 14, 2005

July 14th,2005

Hello there. My name is James Bamford, also known as BAMBAM. I am the stunt coordinator/fight choreographer on SGA and the fight coordinator on SG1. You probably already know all that if you are logged into this blog. I was asked to create this blog by the creators of Gateworld...........so here I am. I am not quite sure what to start with, so here it goes.I am not used to this format and don't think I am going to follow the rules of grammar...........just to break things up. No paragraphs for me! We are almost at the end of our mid-season hiatus now, and the time flew by. I have been training very hard in the ring and out. Sparring sometimes 15 rounds a day has been a regular pastime during this break. So I keep sharp, I have also been working on some other projects, such as Hallmark's "Merlin's Apprentice", a great sword and scorcery mini-series, directed by David Woo(and old friend of mine). It's nice to get out there, and not be the boss, and just swing the sword around like a crazy man. It's been a fun break, not all work. I have been to Los Angeles for a few days to visit some of my Hollywood counterparts. Tonight, I suppose it was last night now, I trained for about 4 hours at my favorite martial arts dojo, and did alot of full contact sparring. Just stand-up tonight. One of the fighters, my good friend Dan Rizzuto(you will see him in Season 2 Atlantis), gave me a very solid shot in the right side of my head that rocked my world. I think it was a left hook, but I'm not sure at this point! We tend to get a bit overzealous at times, but it's always a good time, even when it hurts!! There are several fighters training for bouts at the moment in the gym and I have great hopes for them. The head instructor, Chris Franco, is a world class trainer, and fighter. They seem to think that my old butt should get back into the ring, and take a kickboxing/Muay Thai fight..................aaaaah, ya. I'm 38 years old, I say. They don't seem to notice. I'll probably do it, but not until after the shooting season is over. I don't need to be coordinating with a concussion! Chris Bruno, one of the lead actors from "The Dead Zone" tv series, trains with us regularily. He is a natural fighter. Well.......................I'll be back to work on July 18th..........lots of action to come in Season 2!! Get ready for the ride!! You are going to love it! The writers and directors have really come together, and made some fantastic television for you all. This first half of the season has been so much fun, it's only going to get better from here, if that's possible! Take care all. My blessings go out to all in England. Peace.

Wow, that's a lot of training. How do you do it? I've been training alot lately too, but not nearly that much. Yet I feel a stiffness and soreness all over that doesn't go away. Kinda annoying. :-/ How do you keep at it, while training and doing your stunt work?

It is very kind of you to visit with us and tell us something about what you do. It sounds grueling, interesting and action packed, your life that is. Do you keep the Chiropractor on speed dial. Just kidding...I think.
In the show(s) do you stand in for many characters and extras and how many times per show do you get "Blown Up?"

Bambam, that's pretty cool what you do! I have really enjoyed the action in SGA and SG1, so I am going to let out a big, "THANK YOU!!" right now.

Keep up the good work!
