STARGATE ATLANTIS STUNT COORDINATOR

August 13, 2005

Bruises. My body is covered in them. When I've been busy as a stunt performer in the past, I judge how hard I worked that week by the number of bruises on my body. Now, I seem to get them in training more so then at work. The strange thing is I can name every technique that made contact and is responsible for a bruise. There is the jump-spinning back kick from Jason Fenton. There is the side knee strike delivered from the clinch from Jason Fenton............hold on a moment here. All of them are from Jason Fenton. Jason has a Muay Thai bout in about a week's time and is a top of the line fighter, world class. Most of the other fighters at the gym at this time are training for MMA fights and not stand-up so Jason was stuck sparring with yours truly here. Don't get me wrong, I love it!! Hard training is good for the mind, body, and spirit. The other Jason................Momoa, had a fantastic fight sequence this week on set. He took out three men in about 4 seconds..........maybe 3 seconds. I will spare the details as to not give away the episode, but..............nice work Momoa! We have Joe taking out a couple of thugs next week, and Rachel will be rehearsing for a larger battle at the end of the week. Paul McGillion wants badly to get into the action. Every fight sequence he sees he wants to get involved. "Just one head-butt?" he says. "I don't think that doctors fight." I say. Hopefully one day he will get his wish. I'd love to see it. Today is one of my stunt team, and a great fighter's 30th Birthday. Dan Rizzuto is 30 today. Happy Birthday Dan. Dan is currently in training to fight Drew Ficket, of UFC fame. Drew is a tough competitor but I know Dan is capable of anything in the ring so I'm not the least bit concerned. Good luck to both of them. Wink. There is a large gathering tonight for the Birthday event....................mostly stunt folks, but fighters, actors, make-up artists, and others will be turning out to wish Dan many happy returns. This will be held at a local Yaletown restaurant owned by another friend of mine "Hamilton Street Grill". A wide variety of different food, great service, and reasonable prices. I havn't seen Ivon in the office for awhile.................Hmmmmm. He must be in his trailer, peeking out the window to report what he sees. Maybe I'll go knock on the door and say "hi". I had the chance to peek at some of the upcoming special features that he has in store for the DVD collection......................fantastic work! You all will be very happy. I also spent some time screening most of the episodes in our office on Friday, in between shots. This seasons Atlantis looks amazing. The only SG1 I had a chance to look at was Babylon..............I was the supervising the fight choreograpy for that episode so I had to check it out. Great looking episode again by Peter Deluise. I sent him a text message to tell him so. Ben Browder came our set to visit, with his brother, on Friday. They are both great guys. Ben is as down to earth as you can get in this business. He is chomping at the bit for some more fight action. My washer just buzzed so.......................I'm off.

Howdy!
Speaking of Momoa and fight scenes, I really loved his on Condemned last night, but I do have a question - is the film being sped up on he and Rachel's hand to hand combat? It appeared to go awfully fast, and I was a bit curious if that speed had been aided some how.

(And I think doc's can fight! They just can't kill... it's the kneecap route. ;) )

Great fight coordination in "Condemned." I can honestly say Atlantis is looking better and better as it goes forward. I can't wait for more!

Hey James! Also have to agree that Atlantis has found a nice rhythm this season.

Will Ben Browder be getting his wish and more fighting/stunts? Seems to me these Darth Priors might require some advanced martial arts to beat them... maybe some wire fu?! :D

Bambam, you sound like you are in your happy place today! Or should I say Saturday. LOL, I liked the feel of your blog. Very light and up!

I just love the fight scenes in sga. I appreciate a good fight and you keep them real! It gets so old watching fight scenes that just go on and on when you know in real life that no one would get hit so hard so many times and keep getting up!! Argh, that bothers me!! When you get clobbered you go down if the one hitting you doesn't hit like a sissy. That would not be me even though I am a girl. I hit hard because you are supposed to fight to win! Otherwise you get a few, um,... bruises or knocked out, yikes. That is no fun as you well know. I know, I've been clobbered in fights a few times too. Black eyes are just not my favorite thing. :P

I hope we get to see more of you on screen, but I've already told you that, LOL. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see the new fight scenes. I don't know all the technical terms for the moves you use or the different styles of martial arts either, but I know a cool stunt when I see one. You are doing a fabulous job with the actors and I wish I were one of them because it looks like such fun!

Laundry, ew.

I don't usually remark on stunt scenes on TV, but even I noticed how fab the scene with McKay & Beckett vs. Wraith looked in Condemned. Beckett flying straight back at the tree looked so real!

Paul McGillion totally deserves that headbutt scene! (no, he didn't pay me to say that).
