STARGATE ATLANTIS STUNT COORDINATOR

Sept.13th,2005

Just started the week with prep for "Allies". Nope, can't say anything about that. At the end of the day, as usual, I went for a long training session at Franco's Kickboxing. 3 out of 4 fighters, won their fights last Friday night. All the wins were by KO in the first round!! Yes, team Franco rocks! The opponents were tough ones as well. It is nice to see people that you train and spar with achieve their goals in such a dramatic fashion. All of the fights were pro debuts. The names are mentioned on the "ASK BAMBAM" thread for those who are interested. After training, I went to see a late show........"The Exorcism of Emily Rose". Wow. Powerful. I originally went to see it because it was shot in and around Vancouver, but I enjoyed every minute of it for its own merits. If you feel like being scared, or at least creeped out a little bit, check it out........apparently its a true story. Last week we came back from our 1 week hiatus with a bang. We finished shooting "The Long Goodbye", and what a great way to finish off the episode. That rehearsal Ivon saw out his window paid off. When you all see the episode, you will know exactly what I'm speaking of! Weir is seen in a very different light on this one..............you will love it! Paul attended a convention in Atlanta during the hiatus..........apparently he was asked about head butts!! We are still trying but can't seem to find the correct place to put one in any show so far..............the season isn't over yet. I'm very happy with the responses I am getting on the thread regarding the sparring scene from "Conversion". Joe and Rachel did a great amount of work preparing for that one for sure. Shooting that fight was special for us because Rachel's parents were on set watching everything. It was the first time they saw her do her stuff....fight, I mean. Very proud parents they were that day, as they no doubt are everyday. I am particularily happy with the editing done for this fight..............Judy, take a bow! Don't worry folks...........more on its way...........more fighting......more stunts............more drama.........wow, I sound like an ad for something. I'm not. Ivon tells me the stunt piece for the special features is coming along smashingly........no pun. Myself, Rachel, and Jason just did an interview for "Inside Kung Fu" magazine................it won't be out until January, I think. Look for that one, should be cool. The cast and crews of both shows all came out for the 1rst annual Stargate SG1/Atlantis softball tourney on the weekend...................I don't know who ended up winning as I was late. I was more concerned with our producer at the bar-b-que, or rather the hamburgers he was cooking. All had a good time together. We've become a very large family. Sniff...............shooting season is almost over............sniff. What to do..............? Conventions are fun............I've only been invited to the April 2006 one to far......................that's in Vancouver. Sounds like a good time. All of you out there should come and hang out. Prepare your questions now. I'll take you all out for dinner later after the show.......................just kidding. Wow, it's late!! Where does the time go?! Goodnight! One more thing..............Thanx for the ice cream last Friday Joe!!!! Ok..........now..........Goodnight!!

Hey there, another first-time reader, i never knew Gateworld has blogs and yours was the first i checked out - being a stunt person would be a dream job for me. it's great reading about your job, keep the good stuff coming!
i only just watched Conversion (stuck in slow old UK here) and thought the fighting was fantastic, i'm a true martial artists fan and it failed absolutely none of my expectations. The stunts on this show have all been top class - excellent work!

:)

Hi James,

Always interesting to read your blogs. Though not usually a lover of fight scenes, I must say that I do enjoy watching Rachael's/Tayla's fight scenes. Had Rachael had any fight experience before SGA? If not, how difficult is to work with someone who has not and get them up to speed to look so darn good on screen!!?

You guys are trully blessed that the cast and crew of each show enjoy working with each other enough to spend time outside work to get together.

I have worked for the same company for quite a few years now and I think that the only thing that keeps me there are the people I work with - we all have the same wacky sense of humour, and can see the funny side to the stupidest things!! I swear a sense of humour can make even the most mundane work fun.

Looking forward to Torri's fight scene.....maybe the writers could write a soccer game into one of the episodes and Paul McGillian could attempt to head butt a ball and miss and get David Hewlett instead (sorry David!).

Your life is so fun and interesting. I love the work you have done on sga! All the stunts make the show so wonderful and it is nice to know that you have so much fun and get so many rewards doing it!

Enjoy your time off but somehow I don't think you will really have any time off, LOL.

Love reading your blog as do many people even though we don't always post! You rock!

'Smashingly'? You didn't really write that, did you? :-> Score one for the stunt coordinator!

I'll echo what everyone else has said about 'Conversion': I think there was a moment there when I forgot to breathe.

Welcome back, & thanks for the blog update: we've missed you guys!

Cheers!
