STARGATE ATLANTIS STUNT COORDINATOR

July 28th, 2005

I was planning on making an entry tonight after the gym, but when I got here and saw another reference to our recently injured friend, and stuntman..............I drew a blank. I will recount the week as well as I can at this point. Still prepping Martin Wood's next episode, while shooting Andy Mikita's. We will rehearse a small fight sequence involving Jason Momoa in the morning, and shoot it tomorrow afternoon. I can give no more details on that, but it will be brutal. After training this evening, I took in a film, "The Island". A must see for Sci-Fi fans. Very well done indeed. To answer a previous question, yes I do watch films and get entertained. I also, at the same time, disect the stunts and special effects. It just comes naturally. It by no means destroys the enjoyment of the film for me, but rather enhances it. I did not attend any restaurant this evening, so no comments for future convention goers on that tonight, sorry! Joe "Sheppard" was able to take a flight in a F-16 during the hiatus. He wants me to let everyone know that at one point, he threw up. He is very proud of that! He loved every minute of the flight and tells me he would do it again in a second. Our club's fighter that competed last weekend, Sal Ramm, WON his bout............of course. A unanimus D................good for you Sal!! This was a Muay Thai, 3 round, amateur bout. Now.......................A fellow stuntman, and friend, was injured in an accident on the set of "Smallville" yesterday. His name is Christopher Sayour. He is the stunt double for Tom Welling, and the new stunt coordinator for the show this season. Chris is one of our top stunt performers in Canada. Here is not the place to discuss the where, when, why, and how of the accident. All that I am asking for are as many positive, and kind thoughts directed at this part of the world for our friend, and brother in arms. He is a strong man, and will get well quickly I am sure. The more support for him, the better. Thanx to you all. Take care.

July 20th,2005

Well............only two days back from mid-season hiatus and already off with a bang!! Monday was full of action on set............pretty much every cast member was involved...............a very hot day in the out-out-outskirts of Vancouver. It was great to see everybody again. We all get along so well, on and off set, its just a good time out there. At this point I can't really mention what we were doing but...................I did see a quite entertaining film at the end of that day. Yes, you guessed it, "The Wedding Crashers". It seemed like the right thing to do, after Joe had mentioned it on his Blog so..............whatever. Not the genre of flick that I usually go for but, my friend wanted to check it out. Yes............laugh I did!! Full of wit, it was. Does that read as if Yoda were speaking? Nevermind. It's now very late on Tuesday eve and I have just returned from the post training meal. Jamaican food was the choice tonight. They play great music at this little place on Main and 26th called "The Reef", in addition to serving some pretty authentic Jamaican eats. I got lucky at the gym tonight as none of the other fighters seemed to be able to hit me in the head! LOL!! Quite a contrast from last entry when I was quite sure about my brain being jarred! This weekend there is a fight card, outdoors on the 23rd of July. It's all stand-up fights, and some of the fighters from the gym are competing. I will be attending for sure. It seems as though my style of writing, now that I am taking a second to look at it, just rambles. Oh well, they told me to write about whatever...............so you are getting whatever. Again with the "no grammar" thing...........I know. I was an English major in school so..........I'm taking a break! The team in the production office all looked very positive today as everyone appears to be in the full swing of things already. Peter Deluise is getting into great shape, by the way. Every time that I see him, there is less of him. It must be from chasing around his son on the hiatus. I screened one of our upcoming episodes today in the office (not mentioning which one), and was floored. It looked fantastic! Impressive on all levels. I like to randomly check out our finished product every week or two, just to compare what we are doing with what we have done. I am interested to hear the feedback from the fans on this one. Presently we are prepping an episode directed by Andy Mikita that starts shooting on Thursday of this week, so things are busy as usual around there. Peter is prepping the next SG1 episode at the same time as Andy's Atlantis episode. I got a couple of laughs from crew members about this blog today...................Actually David, one of the webmasters here at Gateworld, gave me a great phone message regarding this thing as well. It was hard to understand because he was laughing so much, but I got the idea. As long as someone is happy..........hey, what's a blog?

July 14th,2005

Hello there. My name is James Bamford, also known as BAMBAM. I am the stunt coordinator/fight choreographer on SGA and the fight coordinator on SG1. You probably already know all that if you are logged into this blog. I was asked to create this blog by the creators of Gateworld...........so here I am. I am not quite sure what to start with, so here it goes.I am not used to this format and don't think I am going to follow the rules of grammar...........just to break things up. No paragraphs for me! We are almost at the end of our mid-season hiatus now, and the time flew by. I have been training very hard in the ring and out. Sparring sometimes 15 rounds a day has been a regular pastime during this break. So I keep sharp, I have also been working on some other projects, such as Hallmark's "Merlin's Apprentice", a great sword and scorcery mini-series, directed by David Woo(and old friend of mine). It's nice to get out there, and not be the boss, and just swing the sword around like a crazy man. It's been a fun break, not all work. I have been to Los Angeles for a few days to visit some of my Hollywood counterparts. Tonight, I suppose it was last night now, I trained for about 4 hours at my favorite martial arts dojo, and did alot of full contact sparring. Just stand-up tonight. One of the fighters, my good friend Dan Rizzuto(you will see him in Season 2 Atlantis), gave me a very solid shot in the right side of my head that rocked my world. I think it was a left hook, but I'm not sure at this point! We tend to get a bit overzealous at times, but it's always a good time, even when it hurts!! There are several fighters training for bouts at the moment in the gym and I have great hopes for them. The head instructor, Chris Franco, is a world class trainer, and fighter. They seem to think that my old butt should get back into the ring, and take a kickboxing/Muay Thai fight..................aaaaah, ya. I'm 38 years old, I say. They don't seem to notice. I'll probably do it, but not until after the shooting season is over. I don't need to be coordinating with a concussion! Chris Bruno, one of the lead actors from "The Dead Zone" tv series, trains with us regularily. He is a natural fighter. Well.......................I'll be back to work on July 18th..........lots of action to come in Season 2!! Get ready for the ride!! You are going to love it! The writers and directors have really come together, and made some fantastic television for you all. This first half of the season has been so much fun, it's only going to get better from here, if that's possible! Take care all. My blessings go out to all in England. Peace.
