August 26, 2005

What a busy week...............phew! I just walked in the door after a day full of meetings and a visit to the chiropractor..................torture. This dude really knows how to lay the pain on a man. This week we finished up shooting the "Michael" episode, and started into "The Long Goodbye". I would like to extend my congrats to Connor Trinnear, our "Michael", and his wife. The baby is due soon in October. I spoke with Chris Sayour today myself. He is doing alot better. He has been out of his doctor induced coma for about a week now, and feels greatful to be alive. He appreciates all of the support from the around the world. He has a long road of healing ahead, but he assures me that it will be quick from here on in. "You can't kill me that easy BamBam!", he said. It was good to hear his voice since all my updates on his health have been second hand. Yes, after finishing off our interview for the special features, Ivon took me out for lunch. The problem was...........I had to be back at the studio for a fight rehearsal. Since there was no way that I would make it in time, all of the stunt guys involved had to meet us at the restaurant. I'm pretty sure that Ivon was a bit overwhelmed. Immediately they all start to talk about the latest car roll-over and the camera placement for it..................Ivon just chewed his food and grinned. Fun day. We had to re-shoot some of my interview because of some tech problem, but Ivon assures me this one is even better. I hope that you all enjoy the piece. This week already we have shot two hand to hand fights and a couple of gun fights. We also rehearsed....................right in the parking lot just for Ivon. He came out and shot us playing for awhile, and then I think that he felt safer in his office. I am quite happy with the pace of this scene...............four guys go down in 3 seconds...............When we shoot it, we should have the speed up to 2 seconds. No........still no head butting for Paul. Maybe tonight after dinner. I had Jason throw a man around like a rag doll this week............who needs wires when you have a 6 foot 4 Hawaiin. He slam dunks people like they are basketballs. Even I was impressed with what he pulled off on "Michael". Rachel, as always, had a technically perfect melee as well.......................very painfull looking, but technically perfect. Joe had some cool action hero moments this during this week as well..................Torri.......well..............I am not allowed to say................she ROCKS!! Wait till you see what she can do.......................................ooooooooooooooooooooooooooyaaaaaaaaa! So.......after lunch today, (we had Chinese food in the office), Joe approached me because he saw how much I ate. He wanted to know what my secret was for staying in shape if I eat like that all the time. The secret is................I don't eat like that all the time!! The next trip to the kitchen, he offered me some of his wonderful ice cream.............I don't even know what flavour it was, but damn it was good!! I hope there is some still in the freezer on Monday. Yes, I mentioned ice cream. It took this long, but it was bound to happen. I'm still getting a handle on this whole blog thing, and sometimes don't have a clue what to write.....................like now................oh ya. Time to go then.
Til next time! Thanx for lunch Ivon! Thanx for the ice cream Joe! Thanx for the great week Atlantis cast and crew! Thanx for taking care of me when I was sick Mom!...................................Bye.

UFC night last night..................some great match ups for sure..................I'm not gonna get into details because if you saw it, you know! Wow, 6 am call time tomorrow. Yes sir, we start our set day at 6 in the morning. That is one hour earlier than we usually start, by the way. First thing up in the day, you guessed it, a fight scene. Who fights at 6 am? Yes, you guessed correctly again,...............us. We are on the last few days of shooting the "Michael" episode, and I think it's going very well. Our actors, director, and crew are putting in overtime on this one for sure. The SPFX make-up is fantastic. Todd Masters is the man! Paul McGillion head butt update........................we found a great spot for Paul(Beckett) to throw in a head butt. It was during our last episode, "The Tower"...................of course Paul and I thought it was the perfect place. Not so. Time alotted to shoot the scene didn't give us time for coverage of such a proposal so.................heads hung low, we walked away. "Keep your chin up", I told him, "We'll try again somewhere in the next episode!" Always on the watch, Paul will probably just end up head butting(Glasgow Kissing) Tori in the middle of some scene about test tubes, without warning me. Speaking of Tori, she has alot of interesting, and different(for her) training coming up this week...........no details for you yet as not to give away anything. Sean Patrick Flannery of "Boondock Saints" and "Powder" fame is in town working on "The Dead Zone" at the moment. He made it into Franco's gym to train this week a couple of times, and even taught a grappling class himself. Chris Bruno wrapped too late that night and didn't make it in. I'll try to rehearse any fights we have this week outside of Ivon's window, so he has something to look at. The city is extremely busy right now with many productions underway..................its very hard to find and hire my favorite stunt people. They keep getting booked first by other productions. For instance, Rachel's double Lani, just landed a great job on the new "X-Men3" film. She is a busy girl. She still has some time to come play with us though. Joe's double, Jeff Robinson, just booked a full time position another movie being shot hear...............the title is unknown to me. The stunt coordinator is a good friend of mine to I don't mind sharing. It's nice to see everybody working. Well............................6 am comes soon. Off to bed for now. Cheers.

Bruises. My body is covered in them. When I've been busy as a stunt performer in the past, I judge how hard I worked that week by the number of bruises on my body. Now, I seem to get them in training more so then at work. The strange thing is I can name every technique that made contact and is responsible for a bruise. There is the jump-spinning back kick from Jason Fenton. There is the side knee strike delivered from the clinch from Jason Fenton............hold on a moment here. All of them are from Jason Fenton. Jason has a Muay Thai bout in about a week's time and is a top of the line fighter, world class. Most of the other fighters at the gym at this time are training for MMA fights and not stand-up so Jason was stuck sparring with yours truly here. Don't get me wrong, I love it!! Hard training is good for the mind, body, and spirit. The other Jason................Momoa, had a fantastic fight sequence this week on set. He took out three men in about 4 seconds..........maybe 3 seconds. I will spare the details as to not give away the episode, but..............nice work Momoa! We have Joe taking out a couple of thugs next week, and Rachel will be rehearsing for a larger battle at the end of the week. Paul McGillion wants badly to get into the action. Every fight sequence he sees he wants to get involved. "Just one head-butt?" he says. "I don't think that doctors fight." I say. Hopefully one day he will get his wish. I'd love to see it. Today is one of my stunt team, and a great fighter's 30th Birthday. Dan Rizzuto is 30 today. Happy Birthday Dan. Dan is currently in training to fight Drew Ficket, of UFC fame. Drew is a tough competitor but I know Dan is capable of anything in the ring so I'm not the least bit concerned. Good luck to both of them. Wink. There is a large gathering tonight for the Birthday event....................mostly stunt folks, but fighters, actors, make-up artists, and others will be turning out to wish Dan many happy returns. This will be held at a local Yaletown restaurant owned by another friend of mine "Hamilton Street Grill". A wide variety of different food, great service, and reasonable prices. I havn't seen Ivon in the office for awhile.................Hmmmmm. He must be in his trailer, peeking out the window to report what he sees. Maybe I'll go knock on the door and say "hi". I had the chance to peek at some of the upcoming special features that he has in store for the DVD collection......................fantastic work! You all will be very happy. I also spent some time screening most of the episodes in our office on Friday, in between shots. This seasons Atlantis looks amazing. The only SG1 I had a chance to look at was Babylon..............I was the supervising the fight choreograpy for that episode so I had to check it out. Great looking episode again by Peter Deluise. I sent him a text message to tell him so. Ben Browder came our set to visit, with his brother, on Friday. They are both great guys. Ben is as down to earth as you can get in this business. He is chomping at the bit for some more fight action. My washer just buzzed so.......................I'm off.

August 4th,2005

Chris Sayour update.............still stable condition but in ICU. I would like to thank all of you that have been sending me get well messages for him since the accident. I just arrived home from the set of another production currently shooting in Vancouver, "Dungeon Siege". Lots of swordplay and magic to be had on this one. I was just hanging around, playing with sharp objects, and fighting with Krugs. Krugs are ape-like creatures which are actually smaller stunt people in rubber suits. It's very hard to keep these boys cool enough not to pass out in the hot summer sun, while fighting in every scene!! Back on Atlantis we are preparing for a fast, yet multiple opponent style fight for Jason. I have no idea what I said to Ivon in the hallway, but it ended up outside in the parking lot............don't worry, I'm fine. Anyway, I have had the time to check out the film, "Cinderella Man"....................excellent. Any boxing history junkie has to see this movie...........forget that............anyone has to see this movie! Extremely well done. Some of the best boxing fight scenes I've ever seen in a film. Great performances all around as well by the actors. My favorite Itallian food restaurant owner has just called me, Mario is his name, with a surprise. The restaurant is "Amarcord" and is located in the Yaletown section of downtown Vancouver(for all of those convention goers). Once a year, he imports a shipment of zucini flowers on my request. He calls me and invites me down to enjoy one of my most loved dishes from my previous trip to Italy. Fiori de Zucca............spelling is optional on my blog in addition to Ivon's. If anyone is in this establishment for the next month............get in there and try it!! Just leave me some. They are not on the menu, so you have to ask for them. It seems the public response to our "Runner" episode is a good one. Alot of compliments on the knife fight between Ronon and Ford are flooding in...............Thank you all. Both actors trained very hard to get the techniques and timing just right..................I'm very proud of them, and of that fight. We shot it in record time, about 45-50 minutes, as we had run out of time in our shooting day. Under pressure like that, it's hard for anyone to perform. Usually a fight scene of that magnitude should take approx. 4-6 hours to shoot for television. Martin just knew exactly what to do. To add to the "proud of list" for that night, David Hewlett wanted to hang upside down between takes to save the production time. He would hang, we would roll the camera, I would spin him, he would say his lines, we would cut, and then we would do it all over again several times!! No complaints out of this man!! I've said too much for today............off too the gym.
