Back to Vancouver!

With my new school schedule as insane as it is, I really thought that I wasn't going to be able to make the annual pilgrimage to Stargate Mecca: Vancouver, British Columbia. I've been attending Creation's official convention there for the past two years, and have had the rare priviledge of visiting the set of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis at The Bridge Studios for the past three.

Well, plans fell into place at the last minute this past week, and I am all booked and ready to go! Bring on another year of fun and festivities.

After travelling (from the East Coast) all day Tuesday, things will kick off Wednesday with some extra curricular reviews around the Vancouver area. It should be a pretty relaxed day. Last year we did five interviews on that first day, and this year we have only one set for sure so far. Hopefully we'll have a couple more kick in last minute.

On Thursday and Friday we plan to visit the set. With only one show in production this year, hopefully it won't be too hard to interview pretty much everyone in the main Atlantis cast and the production office. (Unfortunately series co-creator Brad Wright is out of town next week.) I'm also really looking forward to the chance at talking with series newcomer Jewel Staite, who we all loved as Kaylee on Firefly.

That's the great thing about being an entertainment reporter: If I convince the P.R. folks, beautiful women have to talk to me.

This year David will be heavily occupied with his new job at Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment during the weekend convention days. So I'll expect to be cruising mainly on my own, reporting on the stage talks from the actors and producers, and doing a few more interviews with the convention guests. For those of you who are going to Vancouver, please say hi to the loner with the notebook!

Watch GateWorld throughout the week for what we hope are some special reports and breaking news! This tends to be one of the biggest weeks of the year for us. We won't be doing a full-on home page revamp like we did last year, but we'll still have plenty of good stuff to publish for you.

In 2006 GateWorld returned from Vancouver with 20 interviews, and it took us a good nine months to get through them all! Whew. I don't expect to come close to that this year (especially with only one show in active production), which will definitely help us to kick them out in a timely way. We'll also be helped by the fact that Season Four of Stargate Atlantis premieres in the fall instead of the summer, so these interviews will stay fresher longer. (Thanks in advance for your patience as we work our way through to your favorite actors.)

I love Vancouver. I love being back home in the Pacific Northwest; I love the culture; I love the food; and I love being immersed for a week in Stargateland. Make sure to visit the site (and blogs) for the latest each day, starting this Wednesday!
