We were on The Simpsons!

Or rather we weren't. Richard Dean Anderson went to a Stargate convention. It was a big one, in a fully filled stadium with spotlights and huge flashing electric signs. Hate to think what the ticket price was to cover all that. Thing is, the audience was all men. Or more accurately, mostly spotty looking young men/teenagers. Perhaps that's how it is in the Simpson-verse. For anyone who hasn't been to a Stargate con - the folks who go are mostly women, and mostly spot free, and only partly teenagers.
Here's a tenuous link to Stargate. When we were in Los Angeles I met an actress who is on a show called General Hospital, which is where Richard Dean Anderson got his first big breakthrough. I haven't the foggiest idea who she plays - we've only recently got ABC1 on digital in the UK and the show is on early to mid morning. I believe we're about two years behind. Thing was, during the whole conversation (which was about flights to Europe) I was fighting an almost overwhelming urge to announce that Richard Dean Anderson was on General Hospital. I'm sure she would have found that info right riveting.
Until I met this actress, I thought plastic surgery was always easy to spot. I had her pegged for around 32, although she could pass for 28. Was I close? Was I heck! She was 50. However, before folks go rushing for the knife, I have to say that I saw another example in LA that put me off plastic surgery forever. A woman sitting in front of us during the Universal Studios tour had so much done, she no longer looked human. It was like looking at a three dimensional cartoon. Drawn by an alien who'd had a human female described to him, but hadn't ever seen one.

Missed the RDA Simpsons! :(
Wasn't worth getting in the way of my folks watching the West Wing for though, trust me.
Yeah the RDA ep was alright but I spent most of it sitting there thinking "That doesn't sound a bit like him". I LMAO at the bit with RDA at the con even though it was a bit condescending and not at all accurate. That bit where they cornered the guy who they thought looked like a girl had me rolling.
i you know I missed the 1st half du'h!
I was expecting more from though.....
I can just remember Universal stuidios. (it was 21 years ago I visited. Yikes!!)
The few thing I remember were the A-Team stunt display. The explosion at the end was so big I felt a flash of heat, even though I was not that close to the front of the audience.
Also i sat in KIT (from Knight Rider) Is the car still there?? As a 12 year old, (and being me) In did not accept that it was the real kit :P So I wanted to know who "made" the model. The person who was speaking to me as Kit kept his cool though and insisted he was the real thing!!
Ah Matt I hope your folks appreciated the sacrifice! Are you finished at uni now?
Moriah, that just wasn't like him at all. I wasn't at all comfortable though with the scene where all those guys jumped on groundskeeper willy since he was wearing a kilt and that was close enough. I know it was just a cartoon, but I kinda felt it was a bit icky when they all jumped on him.
Mal - *hugs* I think the best bits for a stargate fan were in the first half. I hope you get to watch it again soon. None of those exhibits are on the tour now. We got the set from the War of the Worlds movie, the airplane crash one. Amazing. It really was a jumbo, just cut up.
Just did my last ever exam yesterday! Next up, a move to Exeter on Tuesday(what? You didn't know about the move? Why haven't you been checking my website?;))
Hi Gipsy,
The pimply teenaged boy myth wasn't true of the "Star Trek" con I attended either, although there were a lot more men. I kept running into my university professors.
What surprised me in Vancouver was not only were there mostly women, there were a lot of families. The families that watch "Stargate" together...
Hats
Matt - exeter! Oh dear, I wish I had more online time to keep up with what everyone is doing. Good luck with your last exam.
Hats - There are lots of folks in the UK who bring their children to the cons as well. It does have a real family atmosphere to it.
