Fandom fun

If you're a member of the GateWorld forum, and especially a long term member, then you'll have a sense of humour. A good sense of humour. I can take that as granted because from my years of experience, that's been the case 99 percent of the time.

Joe's comments in his blog have brought this collective sense of humour to the fore. And there's certainly a lot of fun to be had with Shrill and Ill-Informed Lemmings. Nolamum's cartoons bear a particular mention here.

It wasn't made clear by Joe in his post yesterday, but it was made clear today, that he was talking about fans who just like nothing better than to use any excuse for criticism as a chance to make a personal attack. That's not something that anyone can say about the posters at GateWorld, and I'm proud of that.

I'm also proud to be shrill, proud to be ill-informed, and proud to be a lemming. At the end of the day it is all just good, clean, fandom fun and I hope Joe gets to have a laugh too. I know that I've had a jolly good time these last two days - and been reminded at how incredibly talented some of the folks I talk to are.

I don't support sports - I'm not a sports oriented person. But I do come from a country where sports form the centre of society, and are almost a religion. I have seen far more shrill and ill informed (ie personal attacks) made on managers of sports teams than I have in the fandom about the PTB. I think that the reason I'm so passionate about Stargate is that it is my replacement sports team. Just as I find it utterly unbearable when the All Blacks (the NZ national rugby team) lose, I also find it unbearable when my shows don't get the ratings I feel they right deserve.

Last night was the equivelant of a 1-1 draw away match for Stargate SG1 for me. It was a good episode - nothing obviously wrong with it. But it just didn't get me going in any way. And was slightly a downer in that really, the team should have scored at least one more goal.

The fun part of Tuesday nights for me is getting to watch the show with friends. A rather fraught process at times since I'm pro-Sam and another of my friends is anti-Sam. Poor thing, last night I thought she was going to burst with not saying anything! But she did well, and next week I'll have an extra box of chocolates just for her :)

One thing that amazes me about GW fans...Once they have gotten past the initial burst of anger...They get downright funny and creative... :-)

NolaMom and a few tohers deserve some very special credit for making some very fun and VERY humorous posts that have had everyone laughing and joking.

The fact that in the end...We all know to step back and have some fun with it even if some are still a bit hurt or a bit angry, that says a whole lot about the Fans here at GW... They are a pretty great Bunch :-)

Isn't next week The Road Not Taken? If she's Anti-Sam then I think she's going to need a REALLY BIG box of chocolate.

lalalallalalaa! *sticks fingers in ears*
what are the chances of me getting out of this unspoiled? hmmm, past non-existent :p

The lemming thread has been laugh out loud funny, and I'm pretty proud to be a part of this fandom, for taking what I still think was an insult, and turning it into a fan-party that everyone can happily participate in :D We're not perfect, and I don't think we'd claim to be, but I think we all do a pretty damn good job!
