Well i havent posted since June last year, because i basically have very little free time these days....
To be honest, it's been that way for about the last 10 years, now.
Anyway - onto matters of state; Gateworld's hardware has been majorly beefed up over the past 2-3 months, and including some major software upgrades carried out over the last few weeks, we are now ready to embrace Season 5 of Atlantis.
We have had to slow down the rate at which Yahoo bots craw our site - If you are a regular Yahoo searcher, i'd reccomend boycotting Yahoo Search for either Google or MSN Search, as their crawler/spider has cost Gateworld thousands of dollars in hardware/bandwidth costs over the last 18-24 months.
Anyway for those of you techie types out there who want to know what we are running, here are the fast facts -
We have 2 primary servers - our main US Server is
2 x Quad Core Xeon E5405's at 2Ghz
8GB 667Mhz FBDIMM DDR2 Memory
4 x 15k RPM 146GB SAS drives in RAID 10
Our Australian Server, which hosts SciFi Stream, and a host of other things we use from day to day is -
2 x Quad Core Xeon X5355's at 2.66Ghz
16GB 667Mhz FBDIMM DDR2 Memory
6 x 15k RPM 146GB SAS drives in RAID 5
Software wise -
- Apache 2.2 hosts the main website
- Lighttpd 1.4.x hosts the Forums, and Gateworld Play streams
- MySQL 5.0 for our Forums & Gallery databases
- Gentoo and Ubuntu Linux for our platforms, aswell as VMWare on our Australian Server.
Thats all from me for now, catch you on the forums.
