To Our Friends in England

In television, science fiction in particular, you deal with archetypes - good guys versus bad guys, white and black, good and evil. In reality, of course, things are infinitely more complex. Human behavior is colored by a variety of emotions, histories and motivations. In the real world, there are no simple heroes and villains. Or so you would assume until an act as cowardly and as contemptible as this is committed.

Like the rest of the civilized world, I was shocked and saddened by the events of July 7th. My thoughts are with our friends in England

Thank you. As a Londoner, I've been very comforted with all the thoughts and good wishes worldwide that I've read on the internet over the last couple of days. It's a crappy thing to happen and I look in horror at the rising death rate. But, you know, we've been here before.
For 30 the IRA tried to terrorise us and look how well that worked out for them. Before that, the area where I live was pretty much flattened in the blitz (I can remember playing in bombed out houses and bomb craters in the 60's) and we refused to be terrorized then as well.
We don't get terrorized we get pissed, and then we point and laugh, because really,
The Secret Organisation Group of al-Qaida of Jihad Organisation in Europe!!!!!! what are they, five!
What will it be next time the super secret, sosecretwecan'trevealourname in Europe Tossers!!!!!!!
Britain is now burning with fear, terror and panic in its northern, southern, eastern, and western quarters Err, No! We're getting on with our lives, going to work, getting on buses and trains and saying "screw you" as we always do.
Thank you again for your kind words and thoughts and to all the people around the globe who's expressed their outrage and sympathy. It is very much appreciated, but Britain and London will get through this, we're not that easy to terrorize.

Diane's right, it's been a very weird couple of days. I use the tube every day to head to work in central London and things have been feeling very different. Sadly, every tube user in London knew this was going to happen, we just didn't know when. That didn't stop me travelling on the tube, and it won't now. I'm not a natural borm Londoner, but the dignified behaviour of the strangers around me on Thursday have made me proud to call myself one.

Didn't see this for a while, much appreciated - as a Londoner who was out of town on that day, all I can say is that Al Queda have been complete idiots in hitting London the way they did.
