I went to Summer camp once when I was a kid. It was a fairly unmemorable experience except for that killed nicknamed Monkey who ate styrofoam cups on a dare and, of course, "tuck". Now "tuck" was, for all intents and purposes, a junk food free-for-all - one hour out of every day during which the young campers were permitted to purchase and eat whatever treats the "tuck shop" was offering. It was the first time I'd ever had an ice cream sandwich. And I loved it so much that I decided "Tomorrow, I'm going to get two!" So, when tomorrow rolled around, I bought and ate two sandwiches. And they were twice as good. So I decided that when tomorrow rolled around, I'd get three. But when tomorrow rolled around, I didn't get three. I bought five. And after eating two, I was pretty satisfied, but ploughed ahead and ate the third. I was stuffed. I tried to give away my last two ice cream sandwiches but no one wanted them. Not one to watch food go to waste, I ate them both. It was the last time I had an ice cream sandwich. Just the thought of them makes me slightly nauseous. Which brings me to last Friday night. With company over, I trotted out 11 different ice creams. I had to taste all 11 of course, then went back for seconds on the chocolate with crushed snow flakees. At which point I hit the wall. I think I'm going to have to take a couple of months off from the ice cream making.
Well, we're wrapped. Carl packed up his stuff and headed back to L.A. on Friday. Ever the modest one, he expressed hope that, if Atlantis gets picked up for a third season, he would be invited back. IF Atlantis gets picked up for another season (and contrary to rumors, we have yet to hear word on either show), there is no doubt he's going to get the call. He's a hard worker and one of the most solid writers on either staff. My favorite Carl Binder script this year: Michael.
Chris had a poker game Saturday night. Attendees included Steve Bacic, Jeff Judge, Alex Levine, Paul McGillion, late arrivals Ivon Bartok and Paul Mullie, and, of course, Martin Gero who did pretty well, cleaning out a couple of financial advisors who dropped by long enough to lose every hand they played. "Well, at least they're good with money,"quipped Martin as he called it a night. Martin will be sticking around rather for the next couple of months as we await word. My favorite Martin Gero script this year: Duet.
Martin Wood popped his head into the editing suite the other day as we were doing the SciFi notes on Arthur's Mantle. Apparently, the Camelot cut is 8 minutes over. Paul and I will go in on Thursday morning to watch it, and then head off to Vegas for a couple of days of R&R.
By the way, I was offered the option of turning off the comments option on the blog, but turned it down. As most of you probably already know by now, I love to hear from the fans, good or bad. Its also fun to read the ramblings of the occasional wackjob as, if nothing else, it makes for highly entertaining reading.
So, what now? Well, there are still mixes and cuts to watch, but we definitely have more free time on our hands. I suppose now would be a good time to get to work on those spec pilots and that horror feature I've wanted to get around to. And, of course, those DVD's aren't going to watch themselves. Halfway through season 4 of OZ and season 1 of Airline. Still working my way through Read or Die, Peacemaker, and Wolf's Rain on the anime front. On deck: Arrested Development season 2, and Alias season 3.
SciFi notes. Really? I've got to tell you, I'd feel a lot better if you kept such things to yourself. I'd rather ignorantly plod along, not thinking SciFi is ruining the show than be privy to their daily meddling. These are the same people forcing the space baby on us, who cut the credits, and who continue to jerk your chains about next season, right? Yeah, let's just keep any mention of SciFi and its "suggestions" to a minimum. What do you say?
Hi Mr. Mallozzi:
Thank you for keeping the comments section active even if a few *cough*nuts*cough* join in from time to time *cough*often*cough*...hope you don't think I'm one of them...[crickets chirping] LOL.
I appreciate all your hard work and this opportunity to give feedback on (and this is just one fan's humble opinion based on the first half of S9 to consider or "circular file" as you see fit, LOL):
the great:
Mitchell, Daniel, Mitchell & Teal'c dynamic, Landry, Anubis Jr, and the Ori storyline.
the so-so:
Vala (I'd love to see her back...in small doses, with NO romance follow through--Moonlighting was destroyed with the two leads got together), the Lam/Landry dynamic...lead in was too long and confusing. Sam's return, and the confusing command structure.
the awful:
EDM--sorry Joe, the disappearing building, the Ba'al clones, Carter whipping cross-country and a brief team patch scene but everyone immediately separating again?
team dynamic: not seeing much of the four of SG-1 together. Even Mitchell's big ep so far was giving a relationship with Jason George, not any of his team.
Gerak: not really feeling the danger/story arc of Mr. Gossett's character so far.
Really hope to learn more about S10 and S3 of the shows (As for SGA...uh, just keep up the good work, but hope Lorne doesn't turn out to be a jerk...I like him!)
And you disappoint me. Admitting to watching Airline on DVD? Airline is a guilty pleasure not to be spoken out loud...and definitely not something to watch the day before you go on a flight (I know this from personal experience).
Wow...I think you have a huge problem here Joe...yet another blog entry that is sure to ruffle NO ONE'S feathers. Where's the fun in that? :D
BTW, my Dad loves Airline...so now with two recommendations, I'll have to tune in to see what I'm missing.
And don't steer clear of the ice cream making for too long okay? Perhaps you can use that extra time to record and post those recipes we've been craving like mad. Or publish it...heck, I'd buy the book!
And same as always...here's to Season 10, more Sam in Season 10, resolutions to the aforementioned yadda yadda we've begged for in the past (command stuff/Jack and Sam ship stuff/blah blah blah, etc.).
;)

"I went to Summer camp once when I was a kid. It was a fairly unmemorable experience except for that killed nicknamed Monkey who ate styrofoam cups on a dare and, of course, "tuck"."
Killed named Monkey? Hmm interesting typo LOL. I take it you don't have fond memories of the kid who ate styrofoam cups LOL
"SciFi notes. Really? I've got to tell you, I'd feel a lot better if you kept such things to yourself. I'd rather ignorantly plod along, not thinking SciFi is ruining the show than be privy to their daily meddling."
Did you ever think it might have meant that Joe was writing the notes that scifi would use to create promos for the episode or that they would use on their website to do a synopsis for the episode?
Geez does everything have to be negative.
Of course you couldn't turn the comments off. I mean if a producer wanks in a blog and no one says they hear, does he really make a sound?
"Did you ever think it might have meant that Joe was writing the notes that scifi would use to create promos for the episode or that they would use on their website to do a synopsis for the episode?"
Ha, ha! That's the kind of wide-eyed innocence and naivete I need to give me a chuckle in the morning. Yeah, I'm sure that's what Joe was doing, writing the promo Scifi will use to give away the third and fourth act breaks in the episode. Because, you know, Joe hates it when people have to watch his enitre episode to find out what happens.
Can we at least try to keep the stupidity in check?
How could they not pick up both series again? You'd think it would be ano brainer.
Hey,
I've been reading this blog for a little while now and have finally worked up the courage to post a comment. Sometimes I get a little creeped out by how Stargate pops up in my life. Lemme 'splain. I'm taking an Arthurian lit. course this semester, studying how different people have told/changed the King Arthur myth over time (we're even watching Monty Python) and trying to figure out what's so appealling about this story that it keeps be re-told after hundreds of years. Then my favorite show goes and puts its own spin on King Arthur. How awesome is that? I love this show!
good to hear you're keeping the comments options open. i think it's really nice of you. i still wish ppl'd cut down on the bitchiness and rudeness. that'd be sweet. :)
yay! you're watching anime. i've just finished watching "escaflowne" two days ago, and LOVED it. if you haven't seen it, i highly recommend the series. it has this really grand feeling, a really good script, and breathtaking soundtrack. i'm not big on anime, but i thought this rocked. oh... and "record of lodoss war" too... mkay... maybe i'm more into fantasy than anime. :)
congrats again on wrapping the seasons up. i'm pretty confident you'll get renewed. when you find out, let us know.
Dear Mr Mallozzi,
Avalon just aired in the UK. My favourite bit was when no one seemed to see the need the request permission, but simply informed the PM that SG1 would be trampling all over British soil. Nice to see how Americans see their side of the 'special relationship'...
Bullets...BOUNCE!
I don't think we need O'Neill imitations. I miss Mr Anderson but he did give us EIGHT YEARS and is now taking a well earned rest. Mitchell is a good enough character and Browder is a good enough actor that it's ok for him to be different.
I like Shank's beard. It's a nice touch to show how much he has grown and changed over the years. He was just a kid when all this stargate stuff started but look at him now! I think, though that you made a mistake not giving him command of the atlantis expedition. No offense to Weir, but think how much cooler atlantis would be with Daniel in charge. If nothing else it's a nice idea for an alternative universe story...
if you know the candlelight is fire...
I like the King Arthur stuff. Will we get to meet Merlin? Or even Arthur himself? And what of Mordred, Guinivere, Lancelot?
With all their advancements, you'd think the Ancients would have thought to invent non-lethal security measures!
I must say it feels like a whole new show and yet still SG1 (if that makes any sense). You were right to end all the G'oauld stuff last year (and please NO MORE REPLICATORS!!!). There just feels like the show's emitting a new energy and enthusiasm which makes it even more fun to watch. It would be a real shame if this was the final year. If STAR TREK can go for 18 years (admittedly phoning it in for the last six) why can't STARGATE? I'd love to think we've still got nine more years of encoding chevrons.
Sorry about all the people who think comments is an opportunity to disgrace themselves and thanks for not letting them ruin things for everyone else.
Well tomorrow is the Siege, Part 3. Can't wait!
HA! A few months ice cream free? A boxset of your choice says you cave in before December!
HA! A few months ice cream free? A boxset of your choice says you cave in before December!
did you get a chance to watch the new dr. who series? i think both bbc and cbc were broadcasting them.
Hiya! This is my first time posting.
Im a UK viewer so i saw Avalon last night and it was great. Even without Carter and O'Neill its still Stargate. We still have the big ring ka-whoosh thing. So its a turning point for SG-1. But not a reason for people to stop watching it. Browder was great, havent seen Vala for a while so it was funny to see Daniel and Vala to interact with one another once more.
Season 9 is finnaly here for us! My friends can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that ill shut up about saying how many days are left, lol. ((However they dont know that ill be tellin them about it on teh train to school every morning, muhahahahaha!))
So cant wait for the rest and Atlantis of course!
Dont worry Joe there are still some fans here who are willing to accept current circumstances and family restraints.
Thanks!
H
Best of luck in Vegas!
Having grown up an "airline brat" and worked in the industry, I don't watch "Airline". Hits a little too close to home. The little bits I've seen indicate the coverage is fair and balanced; does it seem so to you?
Gilder
'the ramblings of the occasional wackjob'... you do like to stir up trouble, don't you ?! ;-)
I have a subscription to SciFi newsletter and I think it was rather november when they confirmed the renewal last year. I'm sure you'll have it though - both shows are awesome & the new teams are a blast. Best of luck ! Take care.
Quote from Eric's comment : Avalon just aired in the UK. My favourite bit was when no one seemed to see the need the request permission, but simply informed the PM that SG1 would be trampling all over British soil. Nice to see how Americans see their side of the 'special relationship'...
Please ! How do you expect to wrap political talks into a 43 mn episode ?
Always one to share the s*** with the sunshine, I am very pleased that we can switch in our DVD's and I hope the special features will be there too. If not, it's cool as long as the Threads ep is one there w.commentary.
About the ice cream sandwich thing, it happened to my boyfriend with Jolt and he still can't drink it. It's hawaiian punch for me. I get it after every one of my eye surgeries. =p
Danke for keeping the comment option and, as always, for blogging with us here at Gateworld!
Aw, don't we feel special. You really do like us, doncha? ~.^
But whoever said you had to cut those eight minutes from Camelot? Cut some commercials instead. ...just kidding.
Hey Joe.
I would love for Stargate to win a Gemini. It sucks that Great Shows Like Stargate and Atlantis never get the respect they should. It just boggles the mind that they can ignore the amazing acting and talent that each both shows have.
I have my fingers and toes crossed for S10 and S3. : )
Oh have you watched FIREFLY? The movie SERENITY ROCKS!!!!!!!! I love ADAM BALDWIN. He would make a great guest actor in S10.
Have fun in VEGAS.
And a belated Happy Thanksgiving. : )
Joe - I know this is not your quote but since you generously make yourself available, and there is realy no where else to go,and writing a letter takes waay to long and never gets answered anyway, can you please ask PDL what he meant by the following statement on his recent Gateworld interview whcih I found to be incredulous:
"It's not just The Ben Browder Show now. It's more about the qualities of the supporting cast, I think." Just who the heck was he talking about? I hope it was Beau Bridges, Lexa Doig and Lou Gossett.
As others have said it is not, and never should have been thought of, as the Ben Browder show. You, and others, and now this ridiculous comment about the "supporting cast" are just turning off a lot of the Stargate fans that kept you guys employed and cashing a paycheck for 9 years because many, many of us watched a show called Stargate SG1 and we still watch, believe it or not, BECAUSE of the LEADING CAST members Amanda Tapping, Michael Shanks and Christopher Judge. Believe me there are plenty of fans who watch for them and NOT because of Ben Browder. For 8 years a very large fan base followed these three MAIN, LEAD characters around and, for the most part, enjoyed the ride. Please, it would be nice if you, RCC, PDL and others would not insult the Stargate fans by continuously blowing off about how great Ben Browder is to the almost total exclusion of the original lead cast members. BTW, I really am not interested in Mitchell's relationship with his Dad. I (and many others have expressed the same interest) am more interested in, and concerned with, seeing what his purpose is on the team, what does he bring to the team that was not already there with Sam, Teal'c and Daniel? What qualifies him to co-lead the elite team with Carter cuz so far I have seen almost zero that shows me any of this.
Please let us know what PDL has to say or ask him to clarify his statement. As many of these posts have said, the pushing and shoving of Ben Browder down our throats is getting a little old. Talk is indeed cheap. Show us why he deserves to be on this team and co-leading it with Carter.
Thanks for your time. (and in the spirit of people complaining about anonymous posters being afraid to ID themselves I am IDing myself below partly because I am not sure how to sign-in - it tells me I have no account when I try to sign-in like I do at GW forum.)

Glad you didn't turn off the comments!! As I always say, "ignore the trolls" or wackjobs, lol.
Las Vegas is a great place to unwind and be irresponsible, I know, I was born and raised there! I was irresposible there... a lot!! *ashamed* Have a great time! Say hi to mom, *cheese*
I love ice cream sandwiches!...and poker. Love.....me
