No, I'm not referring to SG-1 season 10 or Atlantis season 3. I'm talking about my blog here on Gateworld.
I've been coming online for going on seven years now. Its been fun connecting with the fans and checking out the forums, finding out what they loved and hated, supported and critiqued, wished for and wanted to avoid at all costs.
Before I go:
Paul's Atlantis script has been renamed once again, from The Begotten to, now, The Misbegotten. Chances are good it will have yet another title next week.
We started to break the 200th episode today and discussed the possibility of a special guest star. Fingers crossed.
Of course, the regulars readers/football fans will have already noted that I predicted a Seattle Seahawks - Pittsburg Steelers Superbowl prior to the start of the playoffs. And I'm sure that all of you Stargate/football fans (all of five of you) are just dying to find out my prediction for the big game. Okay. Here it is. Sorry Seattle. Steelers by 12.
Well, that's it. This marks my final blog here on Gateworld, and my In the Making: Ripple Effect marked my final installment in that series (chock full of goodies it was). Its unlikely I'll be dropping by the forums any time in the near future so my apologies to those who post questions I never got around to.
Keep enjoying the show. Or not, as the case may be. Someday, I will swing by to see how you're all doing.

Joe I'm so sorry to hear that you've decided not to be part of our online family anymore. I've really looked forward to your blogs and the behind the scenes tidbits with the In The Making features.
If you decision is based, even in part, on some of the horrible comments that have been made in this blog I guess I can't say that I blame you. Some of the things I've read on these blog comments have made me hang my head in shame as a fan of your work and the shows. Just know that the people who make these horrible comments aren't a true representaion of the entire fandom and certainly not of GW or even, I'm sure, the other fan sites out there. I'll miss your entries but I wish you the best with Season 10 and your future ice cream making endeavors.

Stargate has been and continues to be my favorite Sci-Fi show ever, because it is-- plausibly believable. It's not so far out there that I can't relate, and it's not too realistic to seem blasphemous to any major belief system. May the money continue to pour in and keep Seasons 10, 11, and beyond coming our way.

Truly sorry that we wild and crazy fans have driven you away. I have found your willingness to interact with the fans to be quite generous (and at times completely baffling). Your blogs have always been quite amusing and I will miss them tremendously.
But perhaps it is for the best. While it is sometimes fun to play in the world of online fandom, I find that there comes a time when you just need to step back and take a break to gain some perspective and distance - especially when things become as contentious as they have been in recent months.
And just a word of advice: Don’t worry so much about what everyone else thinks. Continue to write the stories that you enjoy writing…the stories that make you remember why you became a writer in the first place and why it is so unbelievably fantastic to be a paid professional writer. As the Rick Nelson song states: "It's all right now, I learned my lesson well. You see, you can't please everyone, so you got to please yourself." At the end of the day if you are proud and happy with your work, no matter what fans, critics, or ratings say, you can consider yourself a success. I wish all the best for you and everyone at Stargate. Good luck on the rest of seasons 9/2 and for the upcoming seasons.

Yup, this is a colossal bummer.
It may be too late but I wanted to utter a loud THANK YOU for "Ripple Effect." It was a truly heartfelt episode and made me proud to be part of the fandom, especially to receive a gift such as that very emotional hour of television. It had every quality I look for in a "Stargate" episode and it showed why this series can inspire such passionate love.
As for your blogging, "Making of ..." reports, video recommendations, question-answering and—perhaps most of all—your ice cream chronicles, I should like to quote Teal'c and say ...

Well, it's sad to see you go. It was nice to read the new tidbits on the show and equally to hear about the icecreams, plus the shows/films you watched. I dearly appreciate that you did something rare, and brave, in interacting with fans in this way, I hope negative comments didn't put you off but even if they did it's perfectly understandable; you took alot more shit on the blog comments than anyone would ever expect to be put up with. I'm fairly new to this SG1-SGA thingy so I haven't been reading your blog for very long but I did stop reading the comments a while back.
7 years is a long time!
I don't comment often but I just wanted to add that I don't read a lot of the discussion threads here in GW and the comments in your thread because lately I've found so many complaints and while I respect other people's opinions, it makes my head spin to read of so many issues!
I hope you get to read this - just so you know, I have enjoyed S2 of SGA and S9 of SG1. I like the cast, the crew and the writers and while I admit some episodes were not as good as others, the good ones more than made up for it!
I also have many friends who have never heard of GW or read things here but who enjoy watching the shows. In fact I know a lot of people who like the shows and enjoy watching both stargates but never comment on it anywhere.

Hi Joe - sorry you will be moving on from here. Enjoyed reading your creative thoughts and ideas about the show and other things.
Collateral Damage - did not get around to telling you how much I enjoyed it until now. Subtle and layered with lots of ends left unanswered - a mystery with lots of questions asked. I liked the ethical questions asked by the technology and the possibility of it's future use for not necessarily good things by the military. Lots of room for future stories in that. Loved Mitchell's backstory and how it was presented. Plus Anna Galvin and the other guest stars did a wonderful job with Ben ( wonderful performance as always by BB). Thanks for the ep.
Ripple Effect will go down as one of the most entertaining and loved eps of the season. Lots of detail to think about. Clever writing. Once more lots of opportunity for the actors to shine and demonstrate different personalities for their characters.Thanks for that.
Enjoy more creating. Please remember that lots of us are all grown up and appreciate grown up stories.

I'm truly sorry to see you withdrawing from fandom since you and this blog was one of the best things around. You gave us a place to vent our feelings honestly without fear. Believe it or not, but that was a rare gift.
I've heard rumors that Sony execs are not as supportive of Gateworld or other fans sites as MGM was.
It seems like your announcement is confirming this rumor(I can imagine they were not thrilled with you revealing all the stuff that got cut from Ripple Effect since it has prompted a swell of letter writing from a majority of fans). If so then I expect we will see other people still associated with the show being pulling out of participating in fan sites.
The sad truth is Sony is not like MGM who was always very fan friendly when it came to SG-1 and very supportive of Gateworld and other well run fan sites.

Joe you're absolutely doing the right thing. Reading all the comments from the whiners in the thread previous who want Stargate THEIR way or NO way is frustrating as a fan of all quality television. You shouldn't have to cater to them or sacrifice what you and your crew do so well to placate a bunch of losers in their mothers' basements. This is television, not fan fiction.

Sorry to see you leave the blog. I think think you should have waited one more week. The considerable message traffic that was generated by the “almost kiss” in RE will be eclipsed (if the previews are true) by the physical transformation of Sam (ala Jamie Lee Curtis in “True Lies”) and kissing in order to keep Rodney warm ( a lot more than she did for Jack in “Solitudes”).
But I digress ..
My own feeling is that all these comments didn't chase you away. You always seemed to me the type of person that viewed the blog with the (positive) view “There must be a pony in there somewhere”.
My bet is that you were told to stop all fan interaction by TPTB.
Come and join us on the moderated Babylon 5 newsgroup. JMS still stops by after all these years and I am sure comments on SG1 would be welcome.

Well, thanks for all the insight. I especially loved reading the behind the scenes on Ripple Effect. That was my favorite episode this year and definately one of my favorite episodes ever.
Oh no! I love this blog. I check it everyday for updates. I'm really sorry to let it go. Now that it is ending I wish I would have commented more with how much I loved what you were doing and how I loved checking up on what you were doing (and what new flavors of ice cream you where making (not to mention getting ideas of what new anime to watch)).
I'm sorry to see you go, but I'm sure you have good reasons for it though. I hope everything goes well with the show (yay season 10 and 3!) and I hope you're everyday life finds you happy and excited by whatever you choose to do.

I loved your blogs, it is SO RARE that actual producers, actors or who/what-so-ever has the real possibility and time to get in touch with fans other than on conventions or so and LISTEN (for the least part) what the FANS gotta say

The only chance WE got is the Internet and the hell expensive, but oh so worth going to conventions (no matter which ones!)

If thats, and I really pray that it is not the reason WHY you quit writing your blogs, than I am ashamed of being put together into one category with those "fans"
Some fans are more into (in this case) series than others, I put myself maybe somewhere in the middle, and when I see what people are able to say because they think they have the right to say it, than I would rather not be a fan of any kind anymore!

Sorry to see you go Joe. As some have said, if this has anything to do with negative comments I cant say I blame you. Watched Ripple Effect last night and I have to say, second best episode ever (Well, Window of Opportunity just ruled :D). Keep up the good work, and most of all THANK YOU for all of your hard work on the show, you have made possibly the best Sci Fi show ever In my opinion.

Oh, I'm so disappointed to see you discontinue the blog. I was just saying to someone that I can't believe the exec producer takes the time to give insights, etc; thanks so much for keeping us fans in the loop, so to speak. I don't normally read everyone else's comments to you so I have no idea how many negative comments you received; I hope that didn't influence your decision to stop.
It would be great if another exec, writer, director, producer,
etc could find the time to take your place, but I don't know. I'm still waiting for Peter DeLuise (or his office) to acknowledge receipt of a newspaper clipping which I sent (a picture of his father Dom as a little boy)so I know he doesn't have the time!!

You know who you are, hiding behind "anonymity" usernames. If this is the reason why Joe has left - pat your self on the back for being such morons. If it had been because Joe was offended by some comments, he would have said so. Anyone who has read the things he has posted over the years KNOWS Joe Mallozzi doesn't pull punches. I mean he said in the blog prior to this one that he ignores comments about the actors and said exactly why.
The clue none of you finger pointers seem to have gotten is that Joe allowed his blog comments section to be for ALL the fans no matter what opinion they wanted to express. He might not agree with it (and will say so)but he RESPECTED their right to hold that opinion. Joe Mallozzi accomplished something that GateWorld or Ourstargate or any number of fan forums couldn't and failed at doing because of their own agendas and egos: he created a place where [b]all[/b] fans were on equal footing and [b]all[/b] opinions could be expressed.
It was interesting to see the fans -on all factions of the fandom - who couldn't control the content based on their own egos or agendas or get Joe to side with them against others, spew their frustrations and outrage.
Joe gave us place where we could all be equal and that is very rare thing in any fandom. I for one will miss that gift.
I don't think Joe had any choice in the matter but to end his association with the blog and with GateWorld. In giving us a freedom and equality to speak freely, he may very well have lost those things for himself.
Again I say thanks to Joe for being a 'hero' to us in a way that no doubt some fans will not ever come to see or appreciate even now when it's gone.
I should be noted by someone that even if Joe has penned a couple of not 100% quality episodes that NOBODY can be expected to write perfect material all the time, especially if they have been doing it for a long time. Joe, I respect you as a writer and hope that some of the rude, thoughtless bastards around here are not the reason for your departure. You blog and insights will be greatly missed,

Aww.. I'm so sorry to hear that you're ending your blog! I loved reading them. I enjoy everything you write, even the non-Stargate-related things. anyway, thanks sir for the insight about the show, that was great. i will not miss that much spoilers, as i believe it was getting out of hands at time and i suspect i am not the only one believing so, but it make me laugh when people complain about predictability after reading it all on this website, and the actors on the show are just fine !
i will however very much miss anime recommendations, it would have been cool if you could have kept a blog only about DVd recommendations XD
I work for a gaming company, so i know how it feel to receive hatred mail by kiddos bashing you constantly for things you cannot control.

Hi Joe, sorry to hear you're leaving. Thanks for the blog and your contributions to GW. I've really enjoyed S9, especially the last couple of eps.
Funny story: When I was travelling in Bolivia a couple of months ago, I went to a pub just outside La Paz and they were playing S6 SG1 eps on the tv...I got a kick out of seeing a large group of locals (in Andean traditional dress) watching the show...SG1 is everywhere.

Well well, this is interesting. I didn't see this one coming. I've been coming here and viewing your blogs for about 2 months now and they have been quite interesting. Quite the discussion on certain other threads. Some things about your work I liked and some things I didn't. If I did post (which I haven't so far but would eventually) not everything would have been positive. But not everything would have been negative. I was going to get round to it and just hope that more episodes like ripple effect come about. (My names invisible painting just so i'm not being an anonymous member, but I'm not one...here.)Whether it's by you or someone else. Just do what's bets for the show, whether that's writing mroe or less episodes, and just make sure when you do write that you don't get complacent or just settle with an ok episode. If you have an episode you think is good, just try to see if you can throw in something just to make it that little bit more special, like ripple effect had. Always go for the top and the best, and just make sure episodes don't have a similar structure. Anyway, hopefully well see some good work from you guys (as just to be blunt it's not all about you) and watch some good episodes in the future.
What I will also say is to get a full reaction of the fans check out different sites. Not all sites have the sam types of fan opinion. And if you go to certain others you may be suprised. Be it in a good way or a bad way. Anyway, see ya :D.

I just discovered this about a year ago, and have enjoyed reading this a great deal. Your intelligence and crankiness in equal measure left me with a chance to look inside some of the creative process with a brilliant writer at the helm. There is a wryness to your sense of humour that shows that you'd be someone to get to know better if paths crossed. You're rare, without being undercooked. I've got kind of a lost feeling actually. Sort of like finding out about the dog didn't go to live on the farm. I REALLY hate myself for the next, but "Say it ain't so, Joe."
Feeling a little pathetic for having to admit that this is the thing I've most looked forward to on the web. - Check out the current episodes of SGA and SG1, then read your thoughts on upcoming and recent episodes. You added a wonderful narrative, and I hope you'll continue to be a voice out there.
I'm finding myself humming "American Pie"....which you can hopefully find an ice-cream flavour to go with. And while missed, I'm hoping this means that the person who borrowed that "special" puddle-jumper has returned it, a little late... and that your off to see the rest of time.
The actors can bring life to words, but the words are from your team, and in the history of Sci-Fi television, I expect they'll often talk of now in Vancouver as one of 'THOSE' times......

After years of them getting beat up in school they try and make up for their lack of balls by insulting an important person on a highly successful television show. Luckily their lack of manhood will prevent their freakishly deformed genes from infecting the human race another generation.
I must echo the sadnesses of everyone above me, but for space considerations I won't bother repeating them. There is one thing that is really bugging me: the Production Diary was never finished. Granted, it did get all the way to Prep Week (for a long time it wasn't even that far) but I would really have enjoyed your unique insight into the latter stages of production. Oh well.
I'd like you to know something. This is the very first time I've commented on a blog. Ever. I'm so sorry it had to be under these circumstances.
I look forward to future episodes. We'll miss your behind-the-scenes knowledge and all those wonderful deleted scenes. Keep on with ice cream, anime, and the search for that perfect comedy. You've been blogging for 7 years? Wow! Good for you for doing so for so long. I'm new to reading your blog having found GateWorld because of Stargate Atlantis.
It's always impressed me that so many behind the scenes people involved with the Stargate franchise come to touch base with the fans on this site. It's not part of your job and I thank all of you for giving us a look at what goes on to make these shows. It makes the shows that much richer and makes the experience more personal. And that fosters the kind of loyality that TPTB (whoever they are this week) should appreciate.
I'll miss reading your comments and hope that someone else will take up the pen (or the keyboard) and continue this wonderful tradition of interacting with the fans.
