Meh

Well as much as I really enjoyed the season premieres the second episodes didn't really do all that much for me. SG-1 was enjoyable, it was a good filler ep and once again they managed to give everybody something to do but it dragged a bit for me. Of course it WAS an episode about a sleeping disease so I probably shouldn't expect a large amount of action. The best parts for me were actually the Vala parts, which is a first for me. I like the character more and more as each ep comes and this is surprising to me considering how much I didn't care for her in Prometheus Unbound and the whole first half of season 8. The whole bit with Woolsey offering to fix the evaluation for her was incredibly transparent though. I wasn't quite sure at the end if Vala knew the whole time or if she was just covering but I sincerely hope it was the former because a blind man could have seen that coming. Like I said, as a filler ep it was alright but I want to get back to the Adria story.
As far as Atlantis goes, I was incredibly disapointed. I really like the Michael character and there was so much potential for him. I was hoping that they would have him be more conflicted about his Wraith and human priorities and show him struggling to find a balance but they just made him go evil Wraith again. Such a waste. I truly hope that we haven't seen the last of him and that there is a chance to explore those aspects of his character in a future episode. As far as the Atlantis crew goes, they just never seem to learn their lesson. And this isn't the first time that I've thought that they went a bit too far in their "Let's just kill 'em and be done with it" attitudes. I can understand Ronan but I was a bit surprised at Teyla's willingness to go along with everything. Especially considering that her and Michael seemed to have connected a bit on a certain level. I don't know if it's because he recognized Teyla's Wraith DNA on a basic level or something else but there was also wasted potential when it came to them as well because I could see a scenario in which Teyla tries to help Michael come to terms with his humanity. Next week is the Richard Kind episode which has the potential to be truly funny or truly over the top. Here's hoping for the former.

I've actually liked all the episodes of the new season so far. I really did not care much for Landry last season, but he has really grown on me with his appearances in SGA and how he handled Vala. I think it was just a matter of getting use to someone new.
I'm lovin Vala in her new role. I think she is going to bring some good humor to the show. When looking at her character, she really is quite brilliant and resourceful.
I'm not certain what Michael's future is. TPTB have had no problem bringing Daniel back from the dead, several times, so there may be hope for the popular Michael. Who knows though? I'm hoping that the wraith are more background noise this season. If Michael were around that might not be the case.
I am with you on the assessment of the second episodes of the year. I watched them and came away feeling that they weren't great but they weren't bad either. They were just kind of there....
I desparately want these two shows to impress me and to give me that same sense of can't wait for the next new episode that I get when watching BSG and the new Dr Who (though the good Doctor is a personal choice from years of fandom and I still have to pinch myself when I go--wow, it's really back....).
I often find myself wondering--are we just going through the motions with the Stargate shows right now?
I hope that they improve this year. I love Ben Browder and I still miss Farscape....so I'll tune in to see he and Claudia Black chew scenery, even if I have to go--but they're not Crichton and Aeryn., so get past that expectation.
