F-R-I-D-A-Y Night

Gads who among us remembers the Bay City Rollers? For some dang reason their song *Saturday Night* is running through my head...hence the title of todays entry. Yeah...I am old...so what...LOL

So this is me right now Image hosting by Photobucket Every other Friday I have the day off YAY!!. I have what we call at my work an *Alternative Work Schedule* That means in 10 days I work 8 9-hour shifts, 1 8-hour shift and get one day off. I picked Fridays as my day off and my 8-hour day. Yes I thought that was pretty smart too :-)

This Friday however, I will be going out of town and possibly missing all of my shows and won't see them unitl I get back and get a taped copy from one of my co-workers. I just found out yesterday that my sister-in-law...has cable (thought she didn't) BUT she doesn't get the Sci-Fi channel...HOW in the world could anyone allow THAT to happen, I have no clue??? Boggles the mind I tell ya :-)

So today I want to give a *Shout Out* to a few Image hosting by Photobucket....All the posters on the *Rep Points, Everything and the Universe Thread* If you have never been in that thread, it is a strange yet fun place. It is over in the Off-Topic area so if you are looking to up your post count as your sole means of existance..well you are out of luck... But if you want to meet some really nice people AND just smile and laugh alot...well its a great thread. Sometimes people forget that a Forum is supposed to be fun. It is a place that we all started coming to because we wanted to talk about our love or disgust with one show...StarGate SG-1. Even if we have been disgusted...its usually because we love the show and we just want TPTB to know we pay attention and they dropped the ball. BUT its also about meeting other fans and having fun as well.

To often people forget that there is a person sitting on the other side of that screen reading the words that they have just written in anger or malice and they choose to have the mentality of well *they started it* by saying something derogatory or controversial about the show we all enjoy. OR they take the stance that they should be able to state their opinion because they have been a loyal viewer for all these years and the show they love has changed to the point that they just MUST say what they feel period.

Ya know that is all fine and dandy....:-) But what happened to being decent? I mean I know there are people out there that will ACTUALLY tailgate and literally chase a person down with their car if they have been cut off on the freeway..heck now days they will possibly even shoot you. Is that the kind of person you are?? Image hosting by Photobucket Because I have watched people *literally* chase other posters around the forum just for the express purpose of posting demenaing posts behind the other person basically just because they *cut them off* in another thread. OR because they *started it*. At what point in our world did it become OK to hide behind a screen and spew out venom at people you have never even met?? My point here is that if you wouldn't walk up to the person and say it to their face...AND deal with the consequences of your actions....then why do you feel justified in doing it on your computer? If you do...well then nothing I just wrote means a hill of beans to you anyway...and I hope we never meet on the freeway...:-)

Anywaaaaaay.....back to my original thought today....So I am thinking we could always leave first thing in the morning for Tucson...right???? so I can at least watch all my shows...I mean Tucson isn't going anywhere AND the couple of things I do for a couple of friends is being handled by yet another friend...so that is covered and Saturday is free for the drive. I think I could swing that...hehehehe
I am being impressed myself now...ok so now I just have to convice Hubs this is the best course of action...Image hosting by Photobucket

Yowsa Yowsa Yowsa...I had a fun Friday night this last Friday. I felt like it was "Return of my favorite Show" night :-)

StarGate was all about the Team and it felt like it. It even had some "new to them" special effects and it was just cool to see all of the Team interacting together and as mini teams all through-out the episode. It was a fun romp basically. No it wasn't deep drama and I was pretty sure they would all escape in the end but its been awhile since I cared...and I DID care. Sam had some great moments in this one and THAT I was happy to see. She wasn't hand holding, nor standing off to the side. I was cheering her on every time she laid it on the line :-) I got alot better sense of Mitchell in these last few episodes and I am iking his "Glass half full" attitude and that "Nuthin' will get SG1 in the end". Loved the General talking to them as a team and yet being natural about things as well.

and Dr Lee...he was just too cute with his story ;-)
So I was happy, I enjoyed the show..yeah it had some shades of other stories BUT at least it LOOKED like the writers tried and suceeded in finding a way to make this cool.

StarGate Atlantis was another fun one...Martin Gero has been a breath of Fresh air so it is always nice to watch what he writes. I did not guess the end plot till the end and that was a cool twist on things.... Sci-Fi kind of took some of the suspense out of it for me by showing more than they should in the promos but they always do..."sigh" But I was happy yet again to "feel" like I was watching a new idea played out. No it wasn't new but it felt good and I was having fun with the ride.

I don't expect the writers to have completely new ideas because I realize Sci-Fi is a limited genre...but what they did last night shows that they can still put out a good show without recycling their own story-lines. I even expect them to have a bit of that for SG1 just because the show is 9 years old BUT not too much...there is still a lot of Sci-Fi out there that they can draw from that they have never done so they still need to improve. But they tok a step in the right direction.

BSG was fabulous again... I was bored last week for the first time.."shrug" and a bit angry that TPTB have ruined a character for me personally. And after this week I will never look at Dee the same. Her character was one that I was very impressed with. Her level of compassion and sense of Fair-play has totally been demolished for me. Now that character is like any other woman in a Day-time drama...."What bed can I be in...Oh the last one died....whoops...I guess I will grieve in your bed" TPTB gave some strong background to the side players and then just trashed it...OK they can do that...but I am not a fickle viewer... I don't forget that I really no longer like that character.

But overall I was just thrilled with last nights episode it was a return to all that I enjoy about BSG and it had ALL the players....fun fun fun :-)

I tape all the shows and I plan to re-watch...not a normal thing let me tell you
Well before I start....Image hosting by Photobucket beating a dead horse ....about the writing ....again..... I will bid ado... I have videos to make ....and a that makes it worth it in my book what makes it all worth it in oyurs?

Old School can be good :-)

Well I don't know about you...but I had a grin on my face when the credits rolled on StarGate Atlantis.....

Both StarGate SG1 and StarGate Atlantis were wonderful in my book!
Sg1 was *Old School* StarGate. It had everything I have enjoyed about any episode of Sg1 for the past 8 years. Action, Humor, Off-World, TONS of those Round spinny things, Whumped ...well ALL of them got whumped even Sam for a change... AND we had men in leather...can never go wrong when you put our SG1 guys in leather (grin) Sam was great, a bit of her snarky self, Cam was just cool and trying to figure out how to get them out of the trouble his ego had got them into and Daniel and Teal's well even in supporting positions they didn't step back. so the TEAM was front and center in this one and I enjoyed the time. A side note..it was pointed out to me that the writer of the episode was Alan McCullough and he is a NEW addition from last year. having only been credited with 1 episode in 2005 and has 3 listed so far for 2006. *Stronghold, Off the Grid, and Arther's Mantle* So Maybe TPTB are listening (grin) or knew it already but just had to let things play out...

SGA was completely fun as far as I am concerned for the character of Weir. She never gets to run around acting all bad-assed and shoot anything that moves. So I think just knowing that the cast probably had a good time while filming this made this even more fun to watch. It wasn't anything in-depth and I didn't have any expectation of some great moment of reconciliation. Since the writers let us know at the beginning that the effects would be temporary AND it was clear she wanted this man dead D-E-A-D. It was just great fun to watch this romp through Atlantis until ...*Woop Times Up* LOL
So as not to completely beat up the old guard of writers this was done by one of the long known GS writers Damian Kindler. BUT we don't hear from him often enough apparently.

I am not going to say any of the ideas were new or even different.. BUT the writers took the time to make things fun and fresh and thats all I ask for :-)

BSG was a major jolt and a let down all at the same time. I am a HUGE BSG fan. Capt. Kara Thrace is my favorite character and watching her spiral just a bit further down her personal abyss was incredible. Katee Sackhoff has just blown me away with her performances week after week. The entire cast is fantastic but for me personally she just has grabbed that role and made it one that many females can identify with. Maybe NOT ALL (grin) of the role But being a tough, confused, strong, vunernable woman. We all want to be loved and we all want to stand on our own. Kara is the best and the worst of these traits.
Can't say I was real impressed with much in the story, it needed to be better filled in - I never felt anything close to a desire to see Dana Delany's character get what she wanted for any reason... but since this show has rarely in 29 episodes dropped the ball... I can cut them some slack

anyway...I am working on a video for BSG so I am slow these days...I know some great SG1 vids so holler if you want some links... and be sure to check out the Forum Section for *Fandom* it has links to Fanfiction and Videos galore.... so when hiatus blues start getting to you.... GW has got it all :-)

So My Thoughts on 915 & 215

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!
I Have to say overall I enjoyed *Ethon* because it was essentially a "Team" episode and I liked that everyone seemed to be doing what I thought they should be doing.

The bummer was my husband played out the entire episode in the first 10 minutes....as soon as the Prometheus was in orbit of the weapon he had the whole thing basically story-boarded out. Later when we discussed it His response to my question of *How did you reaLLY know exactly what was going to happen....have you been sneaking onto GW and reading spoilers?* Image hosting by Photobucket His response.... "Tame... they are all the same any more, the only thing that has changed is the cast." Its not hard to see that my Hubs has gotten a little disillusioned.

SGA was nice change of pace in that we got to see some of the Ancient tech at work. And David Hewlett...They just could NOT have cast McKay any better.. HE is just so fantastic !!!! But once again it was extremely predictable...and I know this because Hubs once again announced the entire story in the first 15 minutes..I suppose I should be thrilled over having 5 minutes extra for this one *roll eyes*.

Image hosting by Photobucket

SO here is my thoughts about that.........
I have completely had a great ride with the writers these last 8 Seasons but I think it is time to bring in some new people with some fresh ideas on what will probably still be *Sci-Fi plot standards* but maybe some fresh eyes and to StarGate would help. Since we do have some new characters.... A new Enemy and basically a new dynamic for the show or at least SG1 then maybe Guys you need to take that final step and JUST be directors and producers and give some new guys/gals a chance to enliven the show. No offense JM or RCC or BW but you are getting redundant and it is beginning to show. AND it is crossing over. If you have seen 100 days on SG1 then you will enjoy Epiphany on SGA, almost the same premise just dressed a little different. I am bad with the episode names as many know :-) so I can't sit here and do a list of comparisons but it has been feeling like "Been there, Done that, Have the T-Shirt"
for many of us fans it has been a great ride and we are still buying tickets...and this isn't about the ride getting "Bad" just "Boring" Image hosting by Photobucket I am just not sure how to say it.

Heaven KNOWS I love me some Ben Browder and I love to watch Sci-Fi and I completely enjoy the rest of the cast emmensly (sp) But no matter how good a cast is.. they can only give as much as they get in writing from that script.

I don't want to compare shows like SG1 to BSG because I feel they are entirely different types of Sci-Fi and are not really meant to be anything alike in overall appearence BUT I can compare writing and sometimes I get the feeling that TPTB of the SG franchise don't have a clear picture of what they want to produce in the end.

To often lately it seems like the shows that are being filmed are excerpts of each mans fantasies. One writer wants to know what it would be like to be literally chained to a beutiful woman for weeks on end, yet another want s to be tranformed into a Wraith...yet another wants to be the warrior hero and yet another wants to be the guy every girl wants but can't have. None of these ideas are bad.... BUT they have already written them and we have already seen these episodes. They did them really well the FIRST TIME we saw them.

I would really love to see TPTB pull some of the stuff that is going on in the world today and "Gaterize" it. Sometimes I think they are trying to with the Ori...but they fall so short by thinking that the audience they are targeting 18-39 year old males won't get it if they are too deep...Guess what guys...They guys who watch SG ARE SMART they will "get it". *Sigh* I think I was just really jazzed about this season AND next (and I still am) but after listening to Hubs rattle off everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING) without knowing anything about the episodes but the commercials from Sci-Fi ..I was a bit down in the mouth... If the average viewer can see the redundency this clearly.... what will that mean for SG1's furture??

Sci-Fi Friday WOO HOO

I so love Fridays!! Not because they are the end of the work week but because I get 6 hours ...yes you read that right SIX hours of StarGate SG1, StarGate Atlantis and Battlestar Galatica. Image hosting by Photobucket that is for Droops

I just read what Darren does every Friday night for GateWorld and I was exhausted when I finished!!! Over on the left-hand side of my Blog there are some links and they will take you to the Blogs of my fellow GW staffers. Darren, David and GateGipsy. Take a minute and read them too. Talk about a diverse bunch here on GW AND an inside look at the inner workings you will find it here.

Anyway back to My Sci-Fi Friday. well here it is a bit more relaxed since it is just me and Hubs that gather 'round the telly. I do record all of the episodes so the first thing is getting the DVD recorder all set, which is normally done hours in advance because I am seriously anal about my recording "sad but true" and then I head over to the computer to do some reading and and such to pass the time..For me here in Arizona the shows don't start until 9 PM and they run until 3 AM. So we usually have dinner and the like all done before we have to settle in.

I am nowhere as adept at "skimming" as GateGipsy and so I try to hand off modding duties of upcoming episodes to another Mod who is a genius like Gips or who doesn't mind being spoiled. I can say with pride that I have not been spoiled in any way for SG1 or BSG but unfortunately I have for SGA. Alas I will survive though.

I have found myself enjoying all of season nine for the most part of SG1. Sure I can find things I don't like or things I think they could have done better but I am just talking overall here.
The same can be said for SGA. Since I am one that doesn't mind a little *Kirk* in my soup so far I haven't been to freaked out...BUT from the commercials on Sci-Fi I may change my tune this time tomorrow..... I had to laugh when Sci-Fi aired that commercial that said *Not only is he a Leader....... He's a Babe Magnet" I thought...Ok just kill the S.T.A.K.S supporters now... this will send way to many people into therapy...LOL ...so if its worth anything S.T.A.K.S you have my sympathy at least after seeing THAT commercial.

I also completely love BSG and Starbuck is my fave :-) so Fridays are just one heck of a night of TV pleasure for me.

I am a little excited about the Super Bowl this year..I hear RDA is doing a commercial and so I am thrilled I will get to see him in action again and have a RDA fix. He is my number two Thunk.

Mel Gibson is number one and no I do not want to change my mind :-D

But my third...Ben Browder...so how can I not love StarGate all the way around...First Jack and now Cam.."sigh" Oh goodness I think I just made all the guys cringe ...LOL
Well fellas as much as we ladies like Sci-Fi and WE DO...we also like the guys to.

Although I think that my straight forward approach to all things StarGate at Cons is good yet bad...at least for the Stars...LOL BUT we did get some great pictures so I guess it isn't all bad.

Well dinner needs to be cooked, DVD needs to be readied and spoilers need to be avoided.. I hope everyone has a GREAT Sci-Fi Friday!!!! (or Tuesday as the case may be )

So what's it like being a Mod you ask

I have had this question quite a few times and since I am one of the newbies to the "Mod Squad" I normally don't have much of an answer. But I can tell you one of my first responses was Image hosting by Photobucket I am SO not worthy!!! and was I sure I wanted to take all of these posters on if push came to shove. Well since I am a Mod now you know my answer was eventually yes and I did take some time to really think about it first.

GateWorld has changed my life in so many ways. It is hard to explain it to someone that has no real "online" Forum Board experience. At first you just start going to the main site daily to read up on all the latest news and see if there is any tidbits you missed the day before Image hosting by Photobucket and THEN you notice that button that says "Talk about this with other StarGate Fans". THAT became a life changer for me!!

Now all of a sudden I was reading the thoughts and feelings of others around the world and we ALL loved StarGate!!! COOL BEANS!!! and slowly I began posting ...until you just could NOT shut me up...Image hosting by Photobucket.....readers -> Image hosting by Photobucket LOL

In the last 3 years I have made some great online friends such as Ruralstar, Marimba, Feli, MALA50!!, Dipsofjazz, Hatusu, Seshat, Mazz, Mei Mei, Caty, Blueiris, FHBagpuss, DJFavorite, Kiwigater, ShadowMaat, Shipperahoy, Maj Fischer, Droops, Skydiver, GateGipsy, Maj Tyler, David and of course Darren and many many more that I know if I keep naming names this post will be too long.

Don't feel bad though if I didn't name ya I will eventually talk about everyone that I know in a good way of course....HA HA you thought I would tell you Mod secrets....NOT GONNA HAPPEN!! nope.

The reason I am talking about it now is because sometimes I think people have the wrong idea about the whole "Mod" thing. Its not easy to moderate a Forum as big as this and the Squad that has been doing it LONG before me deserves a huge round of applause. So many Forums are either Over-Moderated or Under-Moderated and it is really hard to enjoy your time there and eventually you just stop going. Not so with GW...how many of us have been coming to GW for years now and are still having a BLAST? a BUNCH yeah that right a BUNCH. We hit a milestone the other day of a million posts on the new forum and it has only been going since April of 2004. A MILLION posts. That is just mind blowing and we are still going strong. WHY??

Well in large part it is thanks to Darren and his vision of a community. He created a place that allows for ALL opinions to be heard and yet adhere to basic values we all lerned in kindergarten. You can say what you think but you have to say it nicely and respectfully. You have to share the spotlight. There are rules and they have to be followed, not because you must be constrained but because in order for your right to be heard to be enforced so does the other guys right to be heard have to be enforced. No name calling, no hitting, no biting and no spitting. Basically you are no better and no worse than the next guy/girl and what you think is not right or wrong and what "they" think is not right or wrong. But we can all play together and allow for each one of us to find our own way without having to step on anyone to get there.

THAT and many other little things is what makes GW stand out as a fair-minded Forum and a GREAT place to be.

So what is like to be a Mod you ask...its Great :-) To be able to give back something to a place that has given me countless hours of laughter, thoughtful discussion and just great coverage of my favorite shows how could I NOT have a Great time. Plus I used to love babysitting Image hosting by Photobucket hee hee.....however...I think that paid more.......

I Have COMMENTS!!!!

I had to post another Blog moment well because you guys made COMMENTS!! How cool are you!! One of the biggest fears about writing this was "Would anyone read it" and YOU DID... (((HUGS)))) Thank you

I think I have made yet another SG1 convert, my daughter's boyfriend saw all of my box sets of Star Gate on top of the Shelf and was like "Hey so what is this Star Gate thing?" You know a low snicker came forth as I heard my daughter sigh hehehehe :-) So each evening they have been working their way through the seasons. They are up to Season 4 now... and they have only been watching for a few days. I know what you are thinking....I thought it too....excuse me... Go Get a JOB!!!! LOL

BUT anyway he is enjoying the show and my daughter who used to leave the room now is watching aptly and explaining everything so I guess she DID listen a little to all those conversations I had with her Dad about things.

Right now I am sick so I am whining about it to whomever will listen but I won't write about it here...I like those comments to much :-)

Anyway you all are just fantastic for stopping over and taking a minute to add me to your day. So if I forget to say Thank as this starts rolling along please KNOW I am just tickled pink that you are here !!!
