So I have been tooling around the Internet and trying to find things to do while I wait ......oh so IMPATIENTLY for the StarGate Premiers and what have I found..... well alot less that I would have expected...LOL I am a Sci-Fi nerd and a Music junkie so I spend alot of my time on various Music sites listening to new music and watching videos of the newest stuff comingout. Then I go trolling for *other* sci-fi junkies like myself that write fanfiction or makes videos and I spend an inordinate amount of time doing this....yes I know sad isn't it...LOL

So I am throwing the floor open to you...what have you been doing while you wait for the shows to start and do you have anything cool for us to go check out while we pine away for JULY 14th to roll around???

So whilst I have been waiting for the new Seasons to start I went and had some of those "Glamour Head Shots" done and WOW...I must say I was pretty impressed.....I don't EVEN look like this every morning that I trudge off to work.....LOL

In fact I think if I showed up looking like this at work I would probably kill over half of my office....they would be like OMG did you get another job or WORSE did you some kind of surgery...LOL

But ya know what...it was sure an big "Pick-Me Up" to have Hubs be fairly impressed with the woman he married and have my 19 year olds both be WOWed by Mom.

SO Basically I am now showing off ...LOL because I really do like them and I figured ...Heck when will I look that way EVER again...so I thought I would share and be egotistical for another 15 minutes before I go look in the mirror and get reminded that I had to SCRAPE my face off after all that and ....*sigh*.... it is painful to look that good in a picture for a few seconds... I NEVER want to be an actress or a model or anything... WAY to much work....

just so you know my user picture is ALOT closer to how I really look but how often do you get to feel like a movie star (grin)

Lately it seems like all I seem to do is run around and post the same ole thing *People are allowed to post their opinion even if it doesn't agree with yours* Whoda Thunk It on a Forum Discussion board...opinions running amuk! and having their way with other opinions...if we aren't careful...you know what will happen....YUP...in just a little while...a DISCUSSION is BORN... TA-DA... :-)

But ya know, what I have been seeing is not so much a lack of people being open to other's opinions as some not being receptive to the fact that their opinions, while being heard are just ... well redundant. We've heard you (general some) and all you (general some) keep doing is repeating yourself. So maybe it isn't so much a lack of understanding or even receptiveness any longer...quite possibly we are tired of listening and would like to move on with the topic. :-)

I have been witness to an amazing feat lately...watching a .....wait for it.... GRAND DISCUSSION ...unfold...yes ...a real live one... it has been just wonderful to read, to participate in and to watch once again without to much "fandom weirdness" rush in. Has it been all fluffy and everyone is in agreement HECK NO! But guess what? The people are actually making a concentrated effort to address the TOPIC...yeah the TOPIC and it has just been fantastic to read and engaging to say the least. The good point about this is that more and more poeple are tuning into this thread because it has toned down all of the *Personal Crap* and really is focusing in on the Topic AND the people are NOT trying to be clever with words and be snarky to each other or "Top" the other or have some sort of attitude now that "I am right you are wrong" It is slowly evolving into one of the discussions we used to love to be part of. THAT is what is attracting people....

The downside...well as one of the Mods I take the blame for letting the Spoiler policy take a nose dive and way to many spoilers have gotten let out so some major complaining about that hs gone on BUT for the most part..everyone is tucking in and "Tagging" their stuff and cleaning house so those that are tuning in for the Grand Discussion can keep coming back...:-) How Cool Are THEY!!!

We all have our issues with online fandom. I sure have my own and being a Moderator makes it easier in some respects and harder in others. But I can't stress enough that it still all boils down to one factor...YOU!....Yes ...YOU!

Only you can be in control of what you type, only you can be in control of what you post and only you can control what you click on.
Also if you CHOOSE and yes I do mean CHOOSE to take offense to what someone has written without
1) asking if they meant it that way
2) ACTUALLY reading it and not hearing about it second-hand OR
3) taking your eyes off yourself
then maybe fandom isn't for you. Sitting behind a monitor gives alot of people false courage to say things that are mean and petty with little or no context. OR Are filling some agenda they have of their own for their own need of "dwama".

If you can't be bothered to get context from the person who has somehow wronged you then how will they ever know that they have done it in the first place? Oh yeah...they'll know because you made sure to "put them in their place" publically...how nice for you. Feel better now? That moved the discussion along nicely didn't it?...No I didn't think so
It would have been easier to just have gone... I so took what you just said wrong so please re-explain it...unless of course you meant it..then PM me that answer so I know to move on (big smile) Now I am not saying to use my words but in a quick and somewhat funny way..you made your point AND you didn't attack anyone AND you let the person know you may have misunderstood. if you didn't you didn't...then move on. Cause just like you won't change YOUR mind they won't either. And if all you are staying in the thread for is to tell them off or piss them off then as far as I am concerned YOU are now the problem and you just became basically a two-year old

However, if you can "Get over yourself" and discuss your reasons along with their reasons...then guess what you are now in a discussion and I applaud you :-)

To many people are writing me notes about the "Good Ole Days" and I am reading in other places to, about how it "used to be that at GateWorld we used to NOT agree BUT we still all talked in the same thread". Well that was because people didn't try to be clever and play with the words, they weren't mean and petty if you said ANYTHING that offended them and everyone ALLOWED EVERYONE to have an opinion. There are many threads still going strong on GW like this and many of them are populated by newbies..."gasp"...yup by newbies. One of the reasons I love Newbies is because they don't carry around all this "Fan-baggage" and they really are just here to chat, post and talk with other fans. Sure there are alwasy trolls popping up here and there but for every 100 Newbies its maybe 1-5 trolls. Definitely not the big issue some would like to make it out to be. However, if you attract trolls..well maybe you should review your posting style *raises eyebrow*. So to the Newbies I say..."Com'ere

Overall, I like to find the positive in life and I like to find the positive at GateWorld. Guess What...there is ALOT of it. If you want to stay mired in the negative..go ahead, thats your perogative (grin) But that really isn't the majority of this place, no matter how much spin you put on it. GateWorld is still a fun place for many to play and find great friends and actually have some great discussions AND even voice an...Opinion or two....It is what YOU make it..I can NOT say that enough...so if it is negative..then.....*shrug......and if it is positive then...*shrug*...well you figure it out
