Howdy all!
Well I am waiting patiently for yet another new episode of the Doctor tomorrow night. I am really enjoying David Tennant's rendition of *The Doctor*. When I first saw Dr Who, Tom Baker was playing the part and I was fairly young. I don't think I really could appreciate the humor then that was a major part of the show. I was a bit *to American*. Although I did swipe the word "Daft" from *The Benny Hill Show*.
I always thought I was a bit more sophisticated then my peers because I watched all of these British TV shows that we got through our PBS station. Dr Who and Masterpiece Theater just to name a couple. Then cable came into play and we got a broader choice and Benny Hill and Monty Python came onto the scene. Little did I know that I was just a girl in a Midwest town that had the beginnings of *Geekdom* LOL and to a corn farmer I was definitely NOT sophisticated just weird.
Later on I added Red Dwarf to my list of British shows, then the one with Dame Judy and a few others that really aren't Sci Fi related but through my teen and young adult years I still had a bit of a chip on my shoulder that "I watched British TV and they didn't". I am not really sure where that arrogance came from or even why it happened. But who knows when you are a Teenager why you think what you think.
I can look back and know that I had my reasons for many of the things I did and said. I know I was an articulate young person but never was I rude or condescending to anyone. It was more my own little private ....snobbery (for lack of a better word) that hung in the back of my mind that "I. Watch. British. TV." I would bet money now that had I ever once stated that high opinion of my TV habits....the response would have been fast and succinct..."SO!" LOL
Anyway...... I still enjoy select BBC programming and Dr Who is on the top of that list these days and I look diligently for ANY Eddie Izzard Special that comes on. HE cracks me up in a heartbeat.
Sometimes I think Sci Fi fans get that way about being Sci Fi fans or Sci Fi technology enthusiasts. There is this little bit of arrogance that hangs out in the backs of our heads that says little things to us that makes us believe that we are a cut above some of the folks out there in the world. Sadly that voice can over talk the real world voice that is saying "SO!" and some take themselves a bit....ok way too seriously :-)
One of the biggest things I have learned in adulthood is that everything and I do mean EVERYTHING is about balance and moderation.
Your personal life, your professional life, your emotions, your intellect, your spiritual life, your relationships with fellow humans and technology, everything that goes into making you...YOU.... has to be balanced out or eventually you find yourself bogged down in some way or in a rut or caught up in one thing at the expense of another. If you don't make that effort to moderate and balance yourself things just get a bit convoluted and we end up saying "I'm stressed" a heck of a lot or unfortunately you end up saying "I'm sorry" more then you would like to.
So what does it all mean? I haven't a clue LOL That is the real secret.... just admitting you really don't know it all and that what you know today is enough because you feel good about yourself, you have no regrets for anything you did or said today because you thought before you spoke or typed and you took a few moments to check in with yourself to ensure you had met all of your own needs for the day. AND you figured out that only Dr Who has the original Sonic Screwdriver so if you want to "fix everything with one tool" you will have to use the ONE you already have...... yeah... its called your brain :-)
and that Gaterites is *Enlightenment Tame Style* ...see ya on the flip side
