Jack sat in his office, with his head on his desk. The mission had been a success. They had captured the snake, and no one was injured. Except for Carter's no good, spying, scheming boyfriend. How could she still trust him after he had spied on her like that. That stupid cop had no right snooping around in things that didn't concern him. What made it worse was that Carter didn't seem to care, and was probably sat with him right now, telling him all about the SGC and every mission that they'd ever been on. `No. I shouldn't be feeling like this. I should be happy for her. It's non of my business. Not any more.' He sat up. He wasn't going to let her get to him like this. It wasn't like he'd lost her or anything. He never had her to begin with.
He flipped open his laptop, and sighed as it began to hum and whirr. He needed to take his mind off her. `I might as well catch up on some of that paperwork, seeing as though I've got nothing better to do.' He opened his email, and was surprised to see one from Cassie.

Hey Jack!
How ya doin? Just thought I'd send you a message to tell you that I left some music on your computer when I was there the other day. In case you were wondering where it had come from! Thanks again for letting me use it.
See you soon,
Cassie

`Music? She told me she was doing a project!' he smiled, and then set about trying to find some of the files that she'd left. He came across one, and opened it. As the music began to play out threw his speakers he sighed at the thought of Sam sat with that cop in the infirmary. He put his head on the desk, and realised how true the lyrics were to him. And Sam.

Sam smiled at Pete, as he slept, and slowly got up from the chair. She glanced at her watch. It was late, and it had been a long day. She slowly walked down the corridor and returned to her lab. She wasn't sure what she was going to do when she got there, but she needed to do something. She hated sitting around doing nothing. She picked up one of the artefacts that SG-9 had brought back. She new it did something... but she just couldn't focus enough to find out what. `This isn't working.' She thought to herself. `I know, I'll catch up on some of my email. There must be a tonne of it waiting for me.'
As her laptop started up she smiled at the thought of Pete. It was so long since she had been in a proper relationship. Especially with someone from Earth. Pete was a great guy. `I like him a lot. But he did spy on me. Didn't he trust me? No, I can't think like this. I promised myself I'd start a proper relationship. Jack's always going to be there, but I can't have him. I have to let him go. He probably doesn't even feel for me that way anyway... maybe.' She tried to convince herself of these things, but it was hard not to think about them. She was glad when her computer was loaded, so she could do something to take her mind of it. She opened her email. There were loads. Most of them were junk. There was one from Daniel, and right at the bottom there was from the Colonel. She couldn't bare to open it now, so she opened the one from Daniel instead.

Hey Sam,
I just wanted to thank you for helping out tonight. Who knows what could have happened if
Osiris had got away. Sarah is doing fine. I hope Pete is okay. Oh, and I wanted to remind you
to get some rest! You deserve it.
And I'm finally going to get a good night's sleep!
See you in the morning,
Daniel

Sam smiled. She was glad that something had gone right for Daniel. He always seemed to
get the bad luck. At least now he had Sarah back. He deserved it. She closed the message,
and returned to her inbox.
The message from the Colonel was sat there, waiting to be opened. But she couldn't. No
matter how much it was tempting her, she couldn't allow herself to open it.
She opened some more emails, mainly from people at Area 51, but she could reply to them
later. For now she was going to catch up on some of that paper work that she'd been trying to
avoid.
Ten minutes later she had given up on the paper work, and was now staring at her inbox, trying to pluck up the courage to open the message. `Come on, Sam, pull yourself together. He probably just wants to know whether to wear blue or green tomorrow!' convincing herself that that was probably it, she opened the message;

Hey Carter,
I just wanted to make sure you're okay, and to remind you to get some sleep! I've attached something.

P.S. how does blue sound?
She was glad that she was right. It was nothing to worry about. She looked at the attachment, and realised that it was a song. She clicked, and listened as the music played through the speakers.
\\ Are we done for now?
Or is this for good?
Will there be something in time?
With us there should
Only girl for me is you
There can be no other one
If I didn't have faith
I would come undone
So much promise in your eyes
Seems that I can only see
It always makes me wonder
If you save it all for me
Maybe you do
Maybe you don't
Maybe you should
Probably won't...
Because there will be...
There will be other guys
Who will whisper in your ear
Say they'll take away your sadness
And your fears
They may be kind and true
They may be good for you
But they'll never care for you
More than I do
I'll be always there
There to the end
I can't do much
But be your one true friend
To the end
Through the end
Our lives to spend
With each other 'till the end
Of time...
Still see the promise in your eyes
And still wonder if it's for me
But I know it's still there
Even when you sleep
So I say
Goodnight sweet girl \\
As the song drew to a close, she was struggling back the tears. She knew that Jack still felt for her, because she was still in love with him, more than she cared to admit. She turned round, only to see Jack stood at the door watching her. He walked through the door, unsure of what he was doing.
"Sam, I..." he stuttered out, trying to find the right words to say. "I've been to hell and back with you. I would rather die than loose you. The whole of the SGC have bets on us, f'crying out loud. I just... I just needed you to know that I still care for you." By the time he had finished speaking, he was looking at his feet, and was beginning to find that looking at your shoes for five minutes makes them quite interesting. Sam swallowed the lump that was stuck in her throat. She new that he still had feelings for her. She had just chosen to ignore it. By this time, the tears were running freely down her cheeks, and as Jack looked up his feelings were put aside, and he let his instincts take over.
He stepped over to her, and held her in his arms. Her head fitted so nicely onto his shoulder, he was sure that they could have stayed there forever. He kissed her head, and then let her go. He wiped the tears from her cheek, and smiled. Sam shivered at his touch. "So... are we okay?" he asked. Sam nodded, and he gave her one more hug, and then walked out of her lab. He turned back to smile at her. Sam's breath was taken away, as he shone her that smile.
The one that he saved only for her.
