My fairy tale begins in a land far, far away from here where once upon a time a prince was in search of a princess. The King was ill and he had ordered his son to find a bride within a fortnight or he would be banished from the Kingdom but the prince found no one who suited his demands of a princess amongst his own people. Then one day 4 explores came to his Kingdom and she was with them. My princess. Right from the start I knew she was the one I had been looking for. She was so beautiful, so intelligent and so charming. I willingly told her everything about my Kingdom and my people. I did everything I could possibly think of to impress her and I thought I had succeeded. The night before they were set to leave I threw a ball in their honour. In her honour. I wanted to ask her to marry me at the stroke of midnight. But then I saw her dancing with him. One of the other explores; the young archaeologist. Laughing and smiling. Lost to the rest of the world - and I wanted to scream that it was wrong. She was meant to be mine. She was my princess. And so, here we are. They are miles and miles away from home. He is crying over the body of his beloved scientist. I look down at my hands and I am surprised to see blood. Her blood. Suddenly I realize that this is not my fairy tale. In this one I was never meant to be the prince. I was meant to be the evil villain and so, I killed her. Because not everybody is meant to have a fairy tale ending and not everyone is meant to live happily ever after.
