Summary: A couple from the 80's meet the SG-1 team

Author Notes: You'll find introductions of new characters in this story. Let me know what you think :-)

Kellie's eyes opened. She smiled at the sun greeting her through the window. A slight breeze tickled the chimes, stirring them to play their usual morning song. Kellie rose from the bed, slipped into her satin beige robe and wrapped it around her sequined negligee. On the cherry wood dresser, she spotted the cat calendar. Next to the black and white kitten of the day was the date: Thursday, June 20, 1986 They planned something special for the weekend. She still couldn't believe they were married. And tomorrow will be two years since they said, "I do" to each other. The smell of vanilla hazelnut coffee wafted out from the kitchen and into the alcove bedroom. She never drank coffee or tea either, preferring a big glass of orange juice with her breakfast. The aroma of hazelnut beckoned her to the kitchen, though she couldn't drink coffee, mostly because it made her very nervous, she understood why Scott and so many people were hooked. Kellie watched Scott at the stove and taking the percolator off the electric plate. She sneaked up to him.

"Mmmm..." she said, sliding her arms around his waist. "I can see why you love

coffee so much."

"Why don't you have some?" Scott offered, pouring the coffee into his red mug.

"Oh, I forgot."

"Yep," Kellie reminded him. "I would be a nervous wreck. Remember the time I

had a migraine and I took Excedrin with caffeine? I thought I had to go to the ER,

but I have to say, it smells so good."

Scott turned and entwined his arms around her. Smiling, he said, "We're gonna

have fun today at Inwood Park."

Kellie answered, "Are we walking the trails? I love doing that."

"Yeah, we can do that today since it's not too hot."

"I love you, Scott."

"I love you, too."

They kissed ardently.

She melted in his arms, wanting him again like she did last night. But she knew they wouldn't get things done.

Kellie pulled away from his kiss. "Now you know what will happen, we'll get stuck in this kitchen."

Scott smiled. "You're right."

Kellie had to get her mind off the moment. She opened the refrigerator, checking to see what she would make for breakfast. "Waffles?"

"Yeah, I'm in the mood for them-and eggs."

Scott took his coffee into the living room. He sat on the black leather sofa, picked up the remote control and switched on the television. Watching the news, he listened to the reports about recent earthquakes that rattled New York. Though the tremors were only mild, it was very rare for New York to get frequent earthquakes. Scott didn't want the news to interfere with their day. Kellie was looking forward to going to the park. He didn't want her to hear it and surfed to another channel.

Stepping out of the cab in a white tank top and denim shorts, Kellie stared at the entrance to Inwood Park.

Scott joined her, hoisting a backpack onto his shoulder as the cab veered away from them. She smiled at her husband, thinking he looked handsome in his multi-colored striped LeTigre shirt and denim jeans. Wisps of his sandy brown hair rose to meet the warm breeze as it whirled past them. They entered the park, walking around they stopped to gaze at the Hudson River. Then they continued, strolling past people relaxing on benches and children frolicking about on the lawn. Leaving everyone in the distance, they stopped at two trails that led to the woods.

Kellie asked, "Which way?"

Scott glanced at the left trail. His brown eyes darted to the trail ahead, then back to the left trail. "Let's go straight."

"Okay," Kellie said, locking her hand into his and followed him down the straight trail.

Scott watched his petite wife and smiled. "I'm so used to seeing you with black hair. At first I thought I wasn't going to like it but you look good with auburn hair."

"I'm glad you like it." Kellie stretched a lock of her hair into view, admiring the fiery color in the sunlight. She made sure she put a lot of mousse in it. Pump up the hair. That was the fad these days. Kellie released the strand and let it fall back in place with the rest of her shoulder-length hair.

As they hiked deeper into the woods, concerned, Kellie looked around.

"Scott, I hope we can get back."

"We will," He replied tentatively.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes!"

"Well, you didn't sound sure."

"Don't worry, I remember the way back."

"Okay."

"Hey, I hear the Metro-North train. It sounds like we're not that far from it. I

want to show you a bridge where the train goes across. When I was a kid, I would

hang out there with my father. Come on, let's go that way."

They trekked across pebbles and dirt. Scott halted.

"What is it?" Kellie followed his eyes to what he saw ahead. She sighed. "It's a dead end."

"No, it looks like some kind of cave."

Kellie strained to see it. "Yeah, it is a cave. A cave? In Inwood Park?"

"Let's check it out."

"Let's go back."

"I thought you like to explore things? Have fun!"

"Yeah, but...okay. Let's go."

They sauntered closer, Scott said, "It looks like a huge boulder and somehow it became a cave. I wonder if it's one of those secret spots and we may be the only ones who found it."

"If we are, you better believe it won't be our secret for long. Every time we find a secret place, someone else discovers it."

They stopped in front of the huge cave with cobblestone-like rocks that glittered.

Kellie touched one of the rocks. "Marcasite."

"What?" Scott said.

"Marcasite. It's a rock that's used as jewelry. In the 20's it was called the poor man's diamond. Are we really going inside?"

"Yeah, why not?"

"Scott, it looks too creepy in there, and it's dark inside."

"I brought a flashlight." He rummaged through the backpack and pulled out his flashlight.

Kellie grasped Scott 's hand and followed him inside. She grimaced from the damp stench that seemed to smother her along with an eerie feeling, as if they were venturing into a deep, dark abyss.

He squinted. "Looks like there's something ahead, but it'll get dark and I'll need to use the flashlight."

"Scott, you know my fear of dark places!"

"It won't get pitch dark. There's still some light behind us and it looks like the cave isn't that deep. I need the flashlight to get a better look at what this is."

They trudged further and when it grew dark, Scott switched on the flashlight. He hesitated.

Kellie asked, "Scott, what is this?"

"It looks like symbols, trying to figure out-wait-these symbols look Egyptian."

Kellie frowned. "Egyptian? Why would some Egyptian thing be here?"

"I don't know." Scott raised the flashlight. The white light scaled up to something else, something bigger, something that looked like a huge ring. "What is this? I see the same symbols."

"Scott, I don't have a good feeling about this. This is really creepy. Maybe it's some kind of...alien thing?"

The ground trembled slightly. What looked like locks around the ring began to spin until one stopped, clanking into place on one of the symbols. The ring spun again, each time, locking on a symbol.

Scott yelled, "Let's get out of here!"

They raced through darkness and relieved to see daylight that guided them out of the cave. Outside, they dove behind some rocks and watched what was going on inside the cave. Something else startled them, a brilliant blue light exploded out from the ring. Silence, then something walked though the ring, followed by three others. The blue light vanished.

Kellie grabbed onto her husband. "Oh God, they're coming."

"Come on," Scott whispered. "Let's go!"

"No, we can't go now," she whispered back. "What if they see us?"

Frightened, they hid behind the rocks, peeking. And then,

Kellie saw the alien first. It sauntered out of the cave, wearing an olive-green cap and what looked like military garb. It also carried a side arm and when it looked

up, it squinted at the sunlight.

Kellie whispered, "It looks like-us."

The other three also looked human. One was a woman and the other two were men. Like the first alien, they also carried guns.

Scott said, "That one, with some kind of gold circle on his forehead, what's that weapon he's carrying? Kellie, somehow we gotta get out of here."

"Wait," she said, listening to what they were saying.

"Sir," the woman said to the first alien who stepped out of the cave. "We're not home."

He smirked. "I know that."

One of the men who wore glasses said, "What happened? How did we end up here?"

They all looked at the woman for an answer.

She shrugged and glanced at the man wearing glasses. "Daniel?"

"Yes?"

"You dialed the right symbols...right?"

"Of course I did!"

The first alien asked, "Daniel, are you sure it wasn't a wrong number?"

Flustered, Daniel replied, "Jack, I know how to dial home."

"Well, we're not exactly in Kansas are we?"

Scott whispered to Kellie, "Well, actually, it's New York."

"Shhh," Jack said, "Did you hear something?"

"No," Daniel answered.

"I heard something. Over there, near the rocks." Jack raised his gun. "All right, come out of there."

"Oh no," Kellie mumbled.

Scott sighed. "Come on, we better do what he says."

They stood from behind the rocks, lifted their hands and eased out into the open. Kellie trembled at the sight of guns and one unusual weapon pointed at them.

Frightened she said, "Please, don't hurt us. We didn't mean to disturb that thing

inside the cave. We didn't know something like that was there. All we wanted to do was hike the trails. That's why we come to this park."

The blonde-haired woman asked, "What's the name of this park?"

Scott answered, "Inwood Park. And this planet is called, Earth."

Jack's brows furrowed. "Earth?"

"Yeah," Scott replied. "Umm, can we put our hands down, they're getting tired. We won't hurt you. Please, believe us."

Jack nodded and lowered his gun. So did the others.

Confused, Jack frowned. "Can you tell me where on earth are we?"

Kellie said, "New York City."

Daniel whispered to his blonde partner. "Is it possible the stargate malfunctioned and we ended up in some kind of...alternate earth?"

"No. It's unlikely that would happen, but something went wrong. I know sometimes solar flares can affect the wormhole. Maybe that's what happened and it sent us off course-to a possible alternate earth."

Kellie eased toward the black man. He raised his weapon, pointing it at her.

Scott yelled, "Kellie, get back here! This isn't the time to be inquisitive!"

Kellie ignored her husband. "We're not gonna hurt any of you."

The burly man lowered his weapon.

Kellie got a closer look at him. "What's that on your forehead?"

He answered robotically, "I can't explain. You wouldn't understand."

"So, you are aliens. You look more alien than they do but maybe because you're from a different planet? Wow, we never thought anyone would ever make contact with aliens. So many scientists tried for years, sending signals and no answer. Now, it's the 80's and finally we made contact. This is like, so cool!"

"Wait," the blonde woman interrupted, "You said, this is the 80's?"

"Yeah. 1986."

Jack rolled his eyes. "Oh, that's just great."

Daniel shook his head. "How did we end up in 1986?"

Disgusted, Jack eyed the blonde woman. "Carter?"

She shrugged. "I don't know. This has never happened before. Somehow, something interfered with our trip back to the base. One thing I remember, when we left, there was a solar storm. When there's a solar storm, a massive amount of energy is released. I believe that may have disturbed the wormhole and time around us."

Jack asked sarcastically, "How do we get back?"

Daniel suggested, "I think we should try dialing again."

"What if that doesn't work? What if we end up, God knows where?"

"Jack, we have to try."

Suddenly, the ground trembled, then the tremors increased.

"Oh no," Scott said. "It's another earthquake!"

The ground shifted violently.

"Jack," Daniel insisted. "We have to try."

The ground split. They jumped to the other side, but Kellie lost her balance. She tottered for a moment, slipped and grabbed onto the edge.

"Help me!!!"

Jack spun around. "Hold on!" He grasped her hands. "I gotcha."

Kellie knew that if she fell, she would suffocate from dirt sliding into a ditch the earthquake created. Slowly, she felt herself rising to the top and pulled on to the ground.

"Sir," Carter shouted. "We better get out of here before we won't be able to reach the gate. The cave may not hold long."

"Let's go!" Jack said to Kellie and Scott.

"Go where?" Scott wondered.

"You can't stay here. Let's go!"

They staggered behind the aliens into the cave.

Daniel switched on his flashlight and stopped at the dialer.

The cave rumbled around them. Rocks began to rain down along with dirt.

"Daniel," Jack said, "Could you dial a little faster."

Daniel dialed the first symbol. The gate spun and hummed until it locked on the symbol.

Quickly, Daniel continued to dial, reaching the seventh symbol. When the gate locked, a flux of blue light burst from the center and disappeared. Kellie and Scott were awed by what looked like a circle of blue water.

Kellie uttered, "Oh-my-God."

Carter walked through the circle with Daniel and Teal'c.

Kellie and Scott hesitated in front of the circle. Frightened, she grabbed her husband's arm.

Jack stood next to them. "I know this-ring scares the heck out of you, but if we stay here, we'll die. It's our way home, well, I hope anyway. Just think about Star Trek and how they warp drived through space. The difference here, we don't need a ship. All you have to do is walk through."

"What!" Scott objected. "We're gonna be walking through space?"

"Through a wormhole. It's a piece of cake."

Kellie shivered. "I-I can't!"

More rocks fell near the gate.

Annoyed, Jack shouted, "Oh, for crying out loud. We have to get out of here before we die in this cave."

Kellie's frightened eyes rolled to Jack.

Jack smiled. "Trust me."

And before they could say anything, they found themselves pushed through the water-like substance.

Kellie screamed, "What's happening!"

She grasped Scott's hand.

They left the ring behind, flying while blue light slowly spiraled around them.

Scott lost his grip on her hand.

"Scott!" Kellie called to her husband drifting away from her. "Scott," she called again, hearing an eerie echo of her voice. She watched him drifting further down the spiraling light. Kellie stared at her body, weightless. Awed by what she was experiencing. Her eyes widened at galaxies and brilliant stars cradled within rainbow-colored nebulas. Wishing she could get closer, but as the blue light swirled faster, Kellie felt gravity tugging at her. She sped toward what looked like the end of a tunnel. There was a flash of white light and then, Kellie fell onto a metal ramp. She remained there, disoriented.

"Kellie, are you all right?"

She looked up into Carter's warm face. "I'm dizzy."

"That's normal when you go through the gate for the first time. Jack said it was a piece of cake."

"Yeah, well, he told me the same thing the first time I went through, and believe me, it wasn't a piece of cake. Can you stand?"

"Yeah, I think so."

Carter helped her up and they walked down the ramp.

Ahead, Kellie saw more soldiers standing at the end of the ramp. Scott rushed toward her.

"Kellie," he said, embracing her. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, just a little dizzy."

"That was some trip, huh?"

Kellie smiled a little. "Yeah," she said, looking at the gate. The blue light vanished behind a metal iris. "It sure was."

She continued to look around at what appeared to be a military base, not at all alien.

A bald headed man, Kellie guessed him to be in his fifties, raced toward them.

"Colonel O'Neill," the man said to Jack. "What happened? And who are these people?"

"Well, sir, we kind of...detoured."

"Detoured?"

"Sir," Carter interrupted. "On our way back here, somehow we ended up on earth, but earth in 1986. Before we left, there was a solar storm. It may have interfered with us coming back. While on earth, we met these people. There was an earthquake. We were in danger and had no choice but to take them with us."

The man nodded and offered his hand to Scott. "I'm General Hammond."

He shook his hand. "I'm Scott. This is my wife, Kellie."

General Hammond smiled. "Hello, Kellie. It's nice to meet you both. Welcome to the SGC."

"So," Kellie said, "You're not aliens. You're from the future?"

Jack answered, "We're not aliens." He paused. "But Teal'c is. He's a nice alien. Very friendly." Teal'c didn't smile. He only raised his right eyebrow.

Jack went on to say, "He's friendly once you get to know him."

Scott asked, "What year is it?"

Daniel answered, "It's 2003."

Kellie said, "We're in the millennium age. Awesome!"

"Awesome?" Jack repeated sarcastically.

Daniel whispered to Jack. "They're from the 80's"

"Oh, right."

"Well," General Hammond said to the couple, "While you're here, you're welcome to stay as our guests. You'll be escorted to guest quarters and we will try our best to make you feel comfortable. But before you go, we want you to see our doctor here to make sure you're all right after gate travel."

Scott smiled. "Thank you."

Hammond watched the couple escorted by soldiers out of the gate area, then he turned back to the SG team. "Debriefing. ASAP."

"Yes, sir." Jack said and was about to say something to Daniel when his friend, Kawalsky walked by silently. "Hey, Kawalsky?"

It seemed Major Charles Kawalsky wasn't going to stop, but he did. "Yes?" he said flatly.

"Are you okay?"

Kawalsky smiled, "I'm fine."

Jack watched him walk away. Befuddled, he looked at his team. "Am I the only one who thinks maybe Kawalsky didn't have his coffee today?"

Carter said, "Ever since he came back from our last mission, he hasn't been himself."

Teal'c said, "Yes. I've noticed it also."

Jack watched his friend walk away from them and disappeared around the corridor.

Inside the briefing room, Hammond waited for the SG-1 team. When the team entered, they joined Hammond at the table.

"We have a problem," Hammond said.

Carter had a feeling he was uncomfortable with Scott and Kellie. "What problem, sir?"

"The guests."

"With all due respect, sir, we had to take them with us. I know what we're doing is top secret, but we had no choice. We couldn't just leave them behind, outside in the middle of an earthquake. They could've been killed."

"I understand you did what you had to do, but you are all aware that it's imperative that no one outside this base knows anything about the stargate."

"Sir," Daniel interjected. "They've already seen the stargate before we arrived."

"What concerns me," Hammond said. "Is they may tell others about it."

Jack leaned back in his chair. "If they did, no one would believe them. They would think they're nuts. And if they went back home, it'll be the same thing. They talk about seeing a stargate, people from the future, yep, nuts."

"But," Daniel interrupted, "There is a stargate in their time. If they tell people, they'll show it to them. What if they remember the symbols I dialed, the gate will open and then people wouldn't think they're just telling stories."

"Nuts."

"Telling stories," Daniel insisted. "I hate when you use that word."

"What? Nuts?"

Annoyed, Daniel sighed. "See, there you go again."

"Wait," Carter said. "What are we so afraid of?"

"Major," Hammond blurted. "We should be concerned. First of all, this program wasn't effective until 1994, when Catherine brought Daniel to us so that we could understand how to activate the stargate. Prior to that event, any other stargate found on earth was silent."

"That is," Daniel said, "until we arrived in 1986. And now we have witnesses who saw us come through the gate."

"Yes," Hammond replied. "If they go back home, tell others and activate the stargate before the program exits, it will no longer be top secret. It could get into the wrong hands."

Teal'c tilted his head a little. "Then, they can't go home."

Carter glanced at everyone. "Even if they could go home, how can we help them? We took a chance getting back here and I wasn't sure we could do it."

"There must have been another solar storm," Daniel surmised. "Back in 1986 I mean. That had to be the way we were able to come back. But even if there was another storm, you're saying we can't let them go back?"

Hammond shook his head. "For their safety and protection of this program, I can't allow them to go back."

Kellie and Scott were inside the infirmary.

Both sat on separate beds while the doctor talked to them. Hammond entered the infirmary.

"How are they?"

Dr. Janet Fraiser smiled. "They're in perfect health. Just a little tired and lightheaded, which is normal after gate travel for the first time."

"Well, that's good news," Hammond said. "You can go to your quarters now."

Scott stepped down from the bed. "Thank you, sir, and thank you Dr. Fraiser."

"You're welcome."

"Wow," Kellie said. "This is so cool!"

"Yeah, it is." Scott paced around the guest room. "Very millennium."

Kellie stood in between the two beds. She looked up at a portrait of the planet Saturn. "Awesome."

"That word isn't cool here." Scott said. "Not according to Colonel Jack O'Neill. I don't know, something about him I don't like."

Kellie smiled and sat on the edge of the bed. "Maybe because in some ways, you're both alike."

Scott sat beside her. "Me? Like him? No way."

"Well, sometimes you can be sarcastic, too, and very opinionated."

"Okay, sometimes. But I thought you said I was mostly sensitive."

"You are, but that's why I said, in some ways you're like Jack."

"You didn't find his remark about awesome offensive?"

"Yeah, it annoyed me, but-look, he saved our lives. If it weren't for them, we would probably be dead right now."

"I know. I just hope you're not-attracted to him."

"What? Jack? Oh, come on!"

"Well, he's a Colonel, you know, take charge kind of guy."

Kellie touched Scott 's hand. "Just because he saved my life doesn't mean I'm drooling over him."

"I know," Scott sighed. "I wish I did it instead of him. I'm your husband."

"Scott, if you were standing there, I know you would've done the same thing. I love you."

Their lips touched, kissing passionately.

Scott smiled. "I love you, too." He leaned forward to kiss her again and hesitated.

"Somebody's knocking."

Kellie said, "I'll see who it is."

"Hopefully not Jack."

Kellie smirked, shaking her head. She walked to the door and opened it.

"Hi," Daniel greeted, standing beside Teal'c. "We don't mean to disturb you. We just wanted to know if you were comfortable."

"Yeah, very. Come in."

Daniel smiled. "I'm glad you're both comfortable."

"Sir," Scott began.

"Oh, you don't have to call me sir. I'm not part of the military here. I'm an Archeologist. Just call me, Daniel."

Kellie looked at Teal'c. "And where are you from?"

"I am a Jaffa from Chulak."

"So you're like Spock in Star Trek."

Puzzled, Teal'c answered, "Spock. Star Trek. Daniel Jackson, who is Spock? And what is a Star Trek?"

Daniel whispered to Teal'c. "Spock is a character on Star Trek, which is a TV show."

Teal'c raised his brow.

"Daniel," Scott asked, "What do you do here?"

"We go on missions to other planets, through the stargate that you and Kellie found."

"Oh, that's what it's called."

"This is soooo cool," Kellie said excitedly. "I always wanted to be astronaut. I can't believe we're here and that wormhole travel isn't just a theory anymore. It's real! You know what I saw when we were flying through that stargate? I saw galaxies, stars and nebulas. I can't even explain how it felt to see something so incredibly-beautiful."

Daniel agreed. "I know. It is incredible."

"Thank you," she said. "If it weren't for you guys..."

Silence, and then Daniel said, "We thought we were home, instead we traveled back to 1986. Interesting, how things happen."

Kellie replied, "I don't think it's a coincidence we met either."

Daniel didn't know what to think about what she said. Not what she said but the way she said it. She was very attractive. Her voice was soft, and at times, it sounded flirty.

She's married. What am I thinking? Stop it, Daniel

He cleared his throat. "Well, we'll leave now so you can relax. If you're hungry, we can have food sent down."

"Thanks," Scott replied. "We appreciate it."

Teal'c bowed a little and followed Daniel out of the room.

Kellie sat next to her husband. "This is great!"

"One thing I've been thinking about."

"What? Scott, you look worried."

"You notice there are two guards outside the door."

"Yeah, I saw them."

"Why are they there?"

Kellie shrugged. "To protect us."

"Yeah, maybe. But you notice they haven't talked about taking us back home."

"We just got here. You wanna go back already? What if we end up in another earthquake? At least here we're safe. And who knows if we have a home left to go back to."

"I didn't mean right now. You're right we're safe here. But-this isn't where we belong. One day we have to go back."

"Until then, let's just relax and have fun, okay?"

Scott smiled. "Okay."

In the morning, Carter gave Scott and Kellie a tour of the base. After the tour, she escorted them back to their room.

Before they went inside, Kellie turned around. "Major Carter?"

"Sam." She smiled warmly. "You can call me, Sam."

"Sam, is it okay if we go outside?"

"Outside?" she glanced at Scott who looked concerned by her response. "Uh, General Hammond thinks it's best if you both stayed inside for a while."

"Why?" Scott asked. "Let me guess, for our safety."

"Yes."

"You act like we're aliens or something. And if we go out there, we're a threat to the world."

"That's not true."

"Then why are we guarded? Why we can't go outside? It's like we're prisoners instead of guests."

"Scott, this is the procedure for anyone who's a visitor through the gate. It's best for the visitor to remain here until we have permission from the General that it's okay to go outside. This is a military base and what we do here is top secret."

"I see. Now I get it. The General is afraid. If we leave, he thinks we may talk about your top secret missions."

"Yes. That's what he thinks."

"We would never do anything like that."

"Scott, Kellie, you have to understand why we can't let you go outside. We want to believe you wouldn't tell, but we can't take that risk."

"Kellie, I was right. We are prisoners. What about taking us back home. Do we need clearance for that, too?"

Sam shook her head. "I'm sorry."

Scott huffed, "This is crazy." He stormed back into the room.

Kellie stayed outside the door. She whispered to Sam, "Please, don't treat us like we're prisoners. We just wanted to look around. If the General doesn't trust us outside by ourselves, why can't you and your friends take us?"

"Okay, I'll talk to Hammond."

"Can I go with you?"

Sam smiled and nodded.

Kellie followed Sam inside a glass-enclosed control unit above the gate room. It was busy as usual with people sitting at the computers while some kept keen eyes on the gate.

"Sir," Sam said to Hammond standing beside Jack.

"What is it, Carter?"

"It's Kellie and Scott. Sir, they want to go outside and,"

"Carter, you know that's not possible. My orders are to have them remain here for their safety."

"Permission to speak, sir."

Hammond and Jack were amazed at Kellie's sudden boldness.

"Permission granted."

"I know why you don't want us going outside. We would never tell anyone about the missions here. We know it's top secret. All we want is to feel like we're not prisoners here. We wanna look around and have fun instead of being cooped up in one place."

"Request denied. I'm sorry, Kellie."

"Why can't we be escorted? Not that I'm crazy about the idea either, but at least we can be outside. Look, I'm grateful you guys saved us, but we didn't think we would be treated like prisoners here. Please, we'll go nuts if we have to stay inside everyday."

Hammond mused. "All right. I'll let you go outside, but one at a time. I'll have Carter and O'Neill escort you. And you both are to take full responsibility for her."

"Great," Jack mumbled. "Now we're babysitters."

Kellie's face brightened. "Thank you, sir."

They left the base up in the Cheyenne Mountains and arrived in the city. Kellie sat in the back seat of Jack's SUV. She glanced at Sam and Jack, wondering if they had someone special in their lives, and if they didn't, maybe they liked each other, or maybe she liked Daniel, even Teal'c.

Kellie, you think too much

"Kellie?" Jack said while whisking the SUV around a corner.

"Yes?"

"Are you hungry? There's a great restaurant not far from here."

"Yeah, that'll be cool, but I wanted to look around first, if that's okay?" Hiding behind his dark sunglasses, Jack replied, "Sure. Let me know where you want to,"

"Here. Let's stop here."

"Okay," Jack said and parked in the middle of a street where there were many clothing shops.

They stepped out of the SUV and escorted Kellie down the street. She was awed at how different everything looked-cars, buses, clothes and hairstyles. Kellie stopped at a magazine stand.

"Hey," she said, picking up a magazine with a familiar actress on the cover. "That's Halle Berry!"

Sam smiled. "Yep, that's her."

"It says she won an Oscar. Back home, she hasn't been in any movies yet. She only has a small part in a TV show. Look at her hair cut!"

Jack muttered, "This is going to be fun."

Kellie peeked at her hair in a store window. She frowned. "Look at mine." Kellie saw a beauty salon across the street. "Wish my hair looked like hers."

Sam noticed the salon and then she smiled at Kellie.

Jack said, "Carter, whatever you're thinking, don't do it."

Sam ignored him. "Kellie, let's go."

Sam and Jack sat inside an atrium restaurant.

"Sam, this is nuts. We're supposed to be watching her. What if she decides to take off, then you know what would happen we would be court marshaled, thanks to you. If she's not out of that salon within the next five minutes, I'm going in there."

"Jack, I don't think she would run away. Where would she go? And I don't think she would leave her husband behind. She's just excited. Everything is different to them, and,"

Jack said, "Is that who I think it is?"

Sam turned and amazed at the young woman. Kellie, carrying a shopping bag stuffed with clothes. Like a model on a catwalk, she glided toward them on white platform shoes, wearing snug bell bottomed jeans, a white peasant shirt and a Halle Berry haircut.

Jack stood from his seat. "You look-different."

"I hope it's a good different."

"Yeah, that's what I meant. A good, different."

Kellie beamed. "So now I'm like, a millennium girl."

Jack said, "You're a millennium girl, not like. Like and awesome, those two words don't exactly, well, go with your new look."

"Jack!" Sam retorted.

Kellie sighed and plopped into the chair. "Oh, in other words, I'm still a geek."

Jack sat down. "I didn't say you're a geek. It's just that, this is a different culture. I'm only trying to help you--,"

"Fit in," Kellie said. She rolled her eyes at Jack and turned to Sam. "Sam, thank you for the hair cut and the clothes. I really appreciate it."

"You're welcome."

"All right," Jack sighed. "I'm sorry."

Kellie looked at him.

He asked, "Am I forgiven?"

Kellie smiled.

Jack smiled back. "Can we eat now?"

At the base, Scott walked through the corridors with Daniel.

"Daniel, how did you meet Teal'c?"

"Well," he started as they turned the corner. "We met on his planet, Chulak. Our mission was to go there and rescue my wife Sha're and her brother, Skaara. An alien race called the Goa'ulds kidnapped them. One of them is Apophis, who Teal'c served as one his guards. The Goa'ulds attacked us and if it weren't for Teal'c, Apophis would have killed us. He was tired of working for Apophis who enslaved his people and his family on Chulak."

Scott asked, "What about your wife and her brother?"

Daniel saw Teal'c coming toward them. He stopped and looked at Scott. "They're both dead."

"I'm sorry."

"Well," Daniel went on. "Teal'c, you and I are escorting Scott outside."

"I'm ready, Daniel Jackson."

Scott rode inside Daniel's Jeep into the city. After Daniel parked, they walked around. Scott was amazed at how everything changed. Technology, transportation and the way women walked around, scantly dressed. He also noticed the way Daniel and other men dressed. There were no striped LeTigre shirts or bright colors.

He stopped and said, "I look out of place, right?"

Teal'c replied, "You don't feel comfortable?"

"No. My clothes here are 17 years old. I don't want to walk around looking like, you know,"

"Ah, I see. Like what I need to do when I go out. I wear a hat to hide the symbol on my forehead. I don't want to look inconspicuous to anyone."

"Exactly."

"Well," Daniel said, smiling. "I think we can help so you won't look inconspicuous."

They walked until they found a men's store. Daniel and Teal'c waited while Scott was inside the dressing room. When he came out, Daniel smiled. "Now you don't look like what Jack use to call me."

"What did he call you?"

"A geek."

Scott looked at himself in the mirror. Gone was the LeTigre shirt. He liked the French blue Henley shirt instead. "Yep, this is much better."

Teal'c smiled. "Indeed, it is."

They went to have lunch at an outdoor caf.

Chewing some of his tuna sandwich, Daniel said to Scott, "So, what do you do back home?"

"I'm a college professor. I teach history and I've written a few books about it."

"Really? I love history, too. It's one of my passions in life along with being an Archeologist and an Egyptologist."

"Ah, so you're Dr. Daniel Jackson."

"And you're Dr. Scott Reynolds?"

Scott smiled, feeling there was a connection between him and Daniel. "Is that why Jack would call you a geek?"

"Jack seems to have this, thing about people who are smarter than him, but he's really a nice guy once you get to know him."

"You think so?"

"Yes."

"I rather talk to Hammond."

"You don't like Jack very much."

"He's arrogant, cynical, overbearing, no, I don't like him."

Daniel chuckled. "I felt the same way when I first met Jack, then we became friends. We still have disagreements about certain things but we get along better than we did during our first mission."

Teal'c said, "O'Neill is a great man. You'll see."

Scott chuckled.

Daniel went on to another subject. "So your wife loves Astronomy?"

"Yes, very much."

"Sam is also an Astronomer, and an Astrophysicist. I'm curious. Were you able to recognize what the symbols are on the stargate?"

"Why? Wait, you're afraid I'll be able to activate the stargate if we went back home. I wouldn't know what I'm doing if I even attempted to dial that, whatever it is."

"It's a DHD-Dial Home Device. Okay, I'll be honest with you. We all feel you're a high security risk, but I'm also fascinated that you share what I've always found so interesting. It would be great if we worked together."

Scott thought and then he smiled. "Yeah. It would be great, but I'm no military person--,"

"Neither am I."

"I mean, I'm not someone who would like traveling through space to other worlds. And this isn't my home."

Empathetic, Daniel answered, "I know, Scott. I know."

Kellie returned to the base with Sam and Jack. Headed for the quarters, she said to them, "I had a good time. Thanks."

Sam smiled. "I'm glad."

When Kellie walked inside, Scott greeted her.

"Wow, you look great!"

"So do you."

Sam said, "We'll see you guys later."

Kellie turned. "Sam, wait, I want to talk to you about something."

"Okay."

Jack and Scott were left inside the room. They didn't talk.

Finally, Jack asked, "How was your day?"

"Good. I'm glad Hammond allowed us to go out. I see Kellie had a great time."

"Yes. She did."

"Whose idea?"

Jack shrugged. "What do you mean?"

"The make over."

"It was Sam's idea. Why do I get the feeling you're upset about something?"

"No. I'm not upset about anything."

"Oh, sorry," Jack sneered, "My mistake."

"It's just that, Kellie seems to like it here. After all, you saved her life."

"We saved your lives. See, you are upset. You don't like the idea that I saved your wife and you didn't. That's what this is about."

"I could've done the same thing. I wasn't far away from her, but no, you had to jump in front of me."

"Oh, for crying out loud."

"And," Scott added. "I don't like your attitude. Anyone who's smart, you call them geeks. I know that's what you think of me and my wife."

"You've been talking to Daniel a lot today haven't you?"

"Daniel has nothing to do with it. I already know your type."

"Yeah, and I know your type. Being in this century won't change that. Once a geek, always a geek." Jack stormed out of the room.

Scott wondered why Kellie wasn't back.

Haven't she talked to Sam enough today?

When he stepped out, one of the guards stopped him.

"Where are you going?"

"Do you mind? I'm looking for my wife."

At that moment, he met Daniel and Teal'c.

"Have you seen Kellie?"

"Yes," Daniel said. "She's with Sam."

The elevator door swooshed open.

"Kawalsky," Daniel said.

Kawalsky stepped out of the elevator. He smirked and suddenly, his eyes glowed. Before Daniel could utter a word, Kawalsky's fist swung and collided against Daniel's left cheek. The blow hurled Daniel against the wall, dazing him. Teal'c lunged at him, but before he could do anything, Kawalsky's arm locked around Scott's neck and dragged him into the elevator.

"Hey, What are you doing?"

Kawalsky said in a gruff voice, "You're coming with me."

Scott elbow jabbed him in the stomach. Kawalsky went down, but when his eyes glowed again, his strength returned.

He grabbed Scott, tightening his grip. "Do that again and I'll kill you."

An alarm blared.

"What's happening?" Kellie wondered. She ran down the corridor along with Sam and Jack until they met Daniel and Teal'c.

"Daniel," Jack said. "What's going on?"

"It's Kawalsky. He's been taken over by a Goa'uld." Daniel hesitated. He gazed briefly at Kellie. "And he has Kellie's husband. I think he's headed for the gate."

"What?" Kellie screamed. "You have to get him back!"

She followed them up to the control unit where she saw Kawalsky through the glass. He stood on the ramp. His arm wrapped around Scott 's neck. Soldiers stood by, ready to fire.

Kellie ran to the glass. "Scott!"

"Close the gate." Hammond ordered to the technicians at the computers.

One of them, a man wearing glasses said, "We're trying, sir. Somehow the codes are overrided."

"Overrided?"

"Sir," Sam said nervously. "Kawalsky is going through the gate!"

"Do something," Hammond demanded again.

The technician replied, "All the computers are frozen."

When Hammond saw the soldiers were about to shoot, he grabbed the microphone. "Hold your fire. I repeat, hold your fire!"

Kawalsky and Scott vanished through the blue light.

"Scott!" Kellie attempted to go after them, but Jack grabbed her.

"Let me go!"

"Kellie."

"Nooooo!"

"Look at me, there's nothing you can do. They're gone."

Crying, Kellie wrestled out of his arms and leaned against the glass.

She had never felt such loneliness. Kellie sat on her bed inside the quarters, staring solemnly at the portrait of Saturn. She stood and walked over to the mirror. The pumped up red hair was gone, snipped along with the rest of who she was. Because without Scott, that's how she felt, life didn't matter anymore. She heard three swift knocks on the door. She continued to stare at herself in the mirror. Someone come in. Kellie didn't bother to look until she saw him in the mirror, standing behind her. "Colonel O'Neill," she said coldly.

"It's Jack, remember?"

Kellie walked away and returned to the bed.

Jack sat next to her. "Just wanted to see how you're doing."

She looked at him. Tears streamed down her cheeks. "Isn't it obvious how I'm doing?"

"We'll get him back."

"Why would your friend kidnap my husband?"

"Because Kawalsky isn't himself."

"What does that mean?"

Jack sighed. "Apparently, an alien has taken over his body. Now it makes sense why he's been acting strange."

"What kind of alien?"

"One that isn't as friendly as Teal'c. They're called the Goa'ulds, really nasty snakes. Are you sure you want me to go on?"

"Yes. I need to know."

"Well, these Goa'ulds enslave people and use them as hosts."

"What? You mean like, invasion of the body snatchers stuff?"

"Yeah, kinda like that. We know where the Goa'uld inside Kawalsky took Scott."

Terrified, Kellie's eyes widened. "You said these Goa'ulds need bodies. Maybe that's why Kawalsky took him. They want his body. Oh God, no!"

"Kellie, we'll get him back."

She sniffed and wiped her tears. "I wanted a new look, not only for myself, but for him. I wanted to do something special for our anniversary today."

"How long have you been married?"

"Two years."

"Like I said, we'll get him back."

"I'm going with you."

"Negative."

"He's my husband!"

"I understand how you feel but,"

"No, you don't! How would you feel if someone you loved was kidnapped to another place and may be taken over by some alien? I know what will happen. He'll be dead!"

"Kellie," Jack yelled. His eyes blazed. "I understand. "Daniel had a wife and he lost her. I had a wife. I also had a son. I lost him, too. How? He was playing with one of my guns. When did it happen? Nine years ago-today!"

Jack sprang from the bed, barged toward the door and stopped.

Kellie sniffed. She said softly, "I'm sorry."

Jack returned to her side.

She saw the pain etched on his face.

"What was your son's name?"

"Charlie."

Kellie's lips trembled.

Briefly, Jack embraced her.

She said, "Please, take me with you."

"Hammond won't allow it and I won't allow it. We can't jeopardize your safety. Don't worry we'll get him back. Okay?"

Kellie nodded.

The SG-1 team in their uniforms entered the gate room.

Kellie joined Hammond and the other technicians inside the control unit. The dialing had begun. She listened to the technician shout each symbol and when Kellie looked at the gate, the symbol locked, like what happened in the cave.

The technician announced, "Chevron seven, encoded and locked."

The gate awakened. Kellie stared, hypnotized by the brilliant blue light.

The team climbed up the ramp.

"Sir," Kellie said, "I need to say something to Jack."

"Kellie, they're leaving."

"Please!"

"All right."

Kellie raced out of the unit and down to the gate room. "Jack!"

The team stopped inches from the light.

Kellie rushed up the ramp. "I-I just wanted to wish you all good luck."

Jack smiled. "Thanks."

He vanished through the gate first, and then the others followed. Kellie knew Hammond was going to close the iris. Too late for them to do anything, Kellie leaped through the gate.

Sam looked around. Her Caribbean blue eyes brightened. "It's beautiful, like the garden of Eden."

The ground trembled slightly.

"O'Neill," Teal'c said, pointing his staff weapon at the ring. "Someone else is coming through the gate."

They aimed their guns. Waiting. To their surprise, Kellie tumbled out of the gate.

Furious, Jack barged toward her. "What are you doing here? I told you to stay back at the base."

Kellie rose unsteadily onto her platform shoes. "I couldn't stay. I had to come with you. I don't wanna leave my husband alone here."

"He wouldn't be alone. We're here to get him out."

"What I mean is I want to be with him."

"Now that you're here," Jack replied arrogantly, "Let's follow the yellow brick road."

"Let go of me!" Scott pleaded to Kawalsky as he was forced inside a monolith pyramid. Scott saw this was not your typical pyramid in the Egyptian desert. What looked like guards in armor, their faces hidden under horse-like heads marched down golden corridors-corridors you would see in a base, or a space ship.

"Over here," Kawalsky demanded.

They stepped on a circle. Suddenly, four rings rained down, locking around them and they were transported up to another floor. Scott entered what he saw to be a palace. Guards aligned themselves down to where a man sat on a gold throne. Scott and Kawalsky stopped in front of him. The man, dressed like a pharaoh, stood from his throne.

He smiled at Kawalsky "You've done well."

Kawalsky bowed.

"What's going on?" Scott shouted. "Who are you and where am I?"

In the same gruff, robotic voice, the man said, "These are my guards."

Every helmet peeled it self in layers, revealing faces-black, white with symbols branded on their foreheads.

The man continued. His eyes glowed. "And I'm the God, Apophis!"

Frightened, Scott asked, "What am I doing here?"

"Don't be afraid. This is your new home. No harm will come to you...unless you refuse to cooperate."

"You mean serve you."

Apophis smiled.

Scott shook his head. "No."

Apophis' eyes glowed. His nostrils flared. "Then you die!"

Kellie and the SG team continued their trek through the woods. Trees everywhere were a bloom with red, white, violet and blue flowers. When they reached a hill, Jack held up his hand, warning them to stop. He kneeled, hiding behind several bushes, peeking over them. Something was going on down the hill. He waved to the others, beckoning them to hide and then he reached for his mini-binoculars. Jack saw people shackled and shoved by Jaffa guards into a huge pyramid.

Jack said, "The snakes are here. They're taking prisoners on board their ship. And I betcha we'll find Kawalsky and Scott there, too."

Daniel replied, "It explains why we didn't meet anyone at the gate. Those people, this must be their world."

Sam wondered, "How are we going to get inside?"

Teal'c said, "We disguise ourselves as guards."

Jack turned to him. "Now that's a good plan."

Kellie shrugged. "How do we do that?"

"Well," Jack said, "See those four guards over there? We kill em and take their armor."

"How am I supposed to fit in to one of those things?"

"If you would have stayed at the base, you wouldn't be asking that question." Kellie pursed her lips.

"Let's go," Jack ordered. "Kellie, you stay close to Teal'c."

Kellie said irately, "Yes, sir."

Jack rolled his eyes.

They eased down the hill toward where four guards stood.

"Hey," Jack called to them.

The guards wheeled around and before they could fire, Teal'c fired his staff weapon, killing them.

A few guards joined several others inside the ship. They continued to walk with them until they detoured down another corridor. There was a gold wall encrypted with hieroglyphics where they hid, and then the guards helmets peeled back.

Kellie panted. "How can they breathe in this junk? I feel like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz."

Jack said, "Welcome to Oz."

Kellie smirked. "Thank you, Tin man."

Sam smiled.

Daniel peered around the wall. "Where can they be?"

Teal'c whispered, "The guards!"

Daniel dived behind the wall. Several guards marched down the corridor with Scott. Kellie threw her hand against her mouth, muffling her cries. The team watched the guards escort Scott inside one of the rooms, and then they walked away.

Kawalsky and a guard watched as Scott took three steps back from a beautiful woman. This woman, like an Egyptian Goddess, taunted him, holding what looked like a snake in her hand.

"Who-who are you?" Scott asked. "What do you want with me?"

She smiled seductively. "I'm Hathor. Apophis and I were looking for a new host. Kawalsky when he went back to your planet found us one...you."

Scott kept his eyes on the snake, stumbling backwards. "Why me?"

"Kawalsky sensed there was something special about you. Your body would be perfect. There's no need to fear. You should be pleased, because then you will become like one of us. Don't you want to be a God? You can be immortal. Powerful."

"No, thank you. I don't want that thing in my body."

Hathor inched closer. "Too late. It's likes you. And what it likes, it gets."

The door was blown open. Teal'c barreled in, firing his weapon at the guard.

Jack aimed his gun at Hathor. "Get away from him."

She smiled. "It's a pleasure seeing you again, Jack."

Jack tightened his grip around the gun. "This time, it's goodbye."

He fired, but Hathor protected herself with a shield.

"Scott," Jack shouted. "Get over here."

Scott stumbled over to the team and when he saw Kellie, she leaped into his arms. The team fired their weapons, which were useless against the shield.

"Pull back," Jack shouted, Kawalsky, come on!"

They raced out of the room and down another hall.

"Look," Sam said, "The circle. It's a transporter."

Worried, Daniel replied, "But where will it take us? To Apophis or outside the ship."

Jack looked at Kawalsky. "Fight it, Kawalsky!"

"I'm scared, Jack. Please, help me."

"I will. You're coming home."

Kawalsky smiled. "Good." Slowly, he raised his hand.

Jack saw something in his hand that looked very familiar. He moved his lips, but before he could utter a word, a light blasted from a ribbon hand device the Goa'ulds used to kill. His mind and body frozen by the deadly energy.

"Jack!" Daniel yelled.

Teal'c raised his weapon. Having no choice, he fired at Kawalsky. The force of the blast threw him against the wall.

Dazed, Jack collapsed. He saw his best friend on the floor with a deep wound on his chest. Jack sprang to his feet.

"Kawalsky!"

Barely alive, he looked at Jack. His lips quivered. "I-tried to-fight." He grabbed Jack's arm. His eyes widened. "Jack,"

Silence lulled over them, and then Sam spoke. "Sir?"

Jack said, "He's dead." He stood and turned to see Teal'c behind him.

"O'Neill, I had to use my weapon. He would have killed you."

Jack nodded. "I know. You did what you had to do."

They were startled by fire blasts from several guards storming down the hall. The team fired their guns, killing a few but more barreled toward them. One guard was shot and as he plummeted to the floor, his weapon slid over to where Scott hid behind the wall.

He picked up the S-shaped weapon.

"What is this?"

Jack shouted. "It's a zat gun, get back or else you'll get killed!"

One of the guards fired, hitting Jack. He dropped his gun and grabbed his arm.

Furious, Scott leaped from behind the wall.

"Scott," Kellie said, "What are you doing?"

"All right, I've had enough of you guys." He aimed the zat gun and fired at three guards. What looked like electricity stunned them and they collapsed.

"Hey," Jack said to Scott, "Great shot."

Scott smiled, thinking Jack wasn't the jerk he perceived him to be.

"Let's go!" Sam yelled, running to the transporter circle. "We don't know where it'll take us but we can't stay here."

"Wait," Daniel said. "What about the other prisoners? We can't leave them here."

Jack grimaced from the pain. "We'll come back for them with another team. Right now we have to get out of here."

They ran to the circle and as they were about to step on to it, Kellie heard a staff weapon blast and then a cry from behind. She screamed, kneeling over Scott's body.

Jack yanked her and Scott on to the circle, and as the guards were about to fire again, the rings transported the team out of the hall.

Arriving outside the ship, Kellie held Scott in her arms. She knew he was dying. Tears left their trails on her cheeks.

Scott looked up into her soft brown eyes. Panting, he mumbled, "When I was here, all I kept thinking about was you and our anniversary. I didn't forget. I love you, Kellie. Always will."

His eyes remained open. Kellie didn't say a word. Shocked, holding him gently and didn't want to let go.

Jack whispered, "Kellie, I'm so sorry. I know you don't want to leave him, but we have to get out of here. More guards will be after us."

Shivering, she yelled, "No. I won't leave him here."

"All right, we'll take him with us."

Kellie nodded, agreeing with his idea to take Scott back through the gate.

Jack and Teal'c lifted Scott's body.

They weren't far from the gate when many guards ambushed from behind.

One of them shouted, "Drop your weapons!"

Jack taunted them with a sarcastic smile. "Do we have to?"

"Drop them. Now!"

Daniel looked around and up at the sky. "I feel something, like energy."

Suddenly, a pink watery substance rained down between them and the guards. And when the guards fired through the wall, the blasts bounced off, killing them instead.

Daniel said, "We're not alone."

Pink lights appeared, morphing into three beautiful women, like African princesses.

Jack asked, "Did you do this?"

One of the women stepped toward them. She bowed her head. "Yes."

Daniel said softly, "Who are you?"

"We are from Zanda. The people on this world contacted us because they needed our help."

Daniel continued. "They're prisoners on Apophis' ship."

"We know. Don't worry. We'll help them. We also know you're travelers through what you call the stargate."

"Yes, we're from a planet called Earth."

The woman smiled. Her gaze shifted to Jack. "You're the leader?"

"Of Earth? No. I'm just the leader of my team here."

"Jack, it's time for you and your team to go home."

Puzzled, Jack said, "How did you know my...."

They vanished along with the shield.

"Name. You didn't give us a chance to thank you." He turned and looked at the gate. "Let's get out of here."

Kellie sat inside the room. She didn't do much of anything. Her food tray lay on the table, untouched. Even when Jack came inside and stood at the bed, she didn't flinch.

Jack said, "At least here, Scott will have a decent burial. I'm sorry if I sounded callous when I said we had to leave him. I wanted you to know that he was a great guy."

Kellie didn't look at Jack. She bit her lips to keep herself from crying.

She blasted, "I wish you would have left us on earth. We would've survived the earthquake."

"You really believe that? It's a chance you and Scott may not have gotten out of that park alive. That was a major earthquake."

"If that happened, at least we would have died together."

Jack eased beside her. "I know this is tough. Kellie, I know. I told you about Charlie, remember?"

Kellie nodded. "What's going to happen to me, now?"

"What's gonna happen is you'll be all right. You will, Kellie. We're here for you and this is your home now, if you want it to be."

Kellie looked at him. She smiled. "Thanks."

Jack returned the smile. "We'll check on you later."

She waited for Jack to leave, and then Kellie reached for her pocket book. She rummaged through it until finding her wallet purse. She opened it and gazed at their wedding picture. Kellie remembered Scott's last words.

"All I kept thinking about was you and our anniversary. I didn't forget. I love you, Kellie. Always will."

Kellie looked up. Her tears flowed. "I love you, too. Always will."
