Well, all the better... Didn't feel like smiling and looking nicely at a bunch of aliens...
`Don't worry, I have other methods as well', I said, smiling at Daniel.
`Are you sure you want to do this, Jack?' General Landry asked, looking over the table to Jack.
`Sure... Why not? Did it before... I'll just do it again... In fact, I'm getting used to it... A couple of times more, and I'd be speaking Ancient for good...' Jack said, almost smiling. Hank Landry didn't look too convinced, yet he said:
`All right then, I will authorize the mission on P7X-379. SG-1, Vala, Jack, you have a go. In half an hour, you'll be stepping through the Gate.
It actually took me twenty minutes to get dressed and geared up, and then, as I was going towards the Gate room, I met Teal'c. He looked rather concerned.
`Is anything the matter, Teal'c?' I asked. I knew my giant friend would answer in his specific, unearthly way. And I was right...
`I am afraid this mission is not so much to my liking. I have a bad feeling about it, and I believe we should be more cautious.'
`We always are, Teal'c... What's troubling you?' I asked again. I knew he was hiding something. However, his answer wasn't very clear:
`I am concerned for O'Neill, and for the rest of us. I do not like Daniel Jackson's translations...'
`What do you mean?' I asked, still puzzled.
`The chamber of which Daniel Jackson speaks is at the heart of the Temple. It is said many dangerous things reside in it...' he answered.
`How do you know that?' Now this is getting weird, I thought while waiting for his answer.
`I have once long ago been there... Not by a Stargate but through Transport Rings from aboard Aphopis's ship...'
`Are you sure about this?' I asked, not knowing what to believe.
`Yes, I am sure. Aphopis had tried to acquire the knowledge O'Neill is about to let enter his brain. The attempt was unsuccessful. Aphopis had a human slave, and he had strong reasons to believe he was of the same bloodline as the Ancients', he replied, looking no where in particular, as if he was remembering old times.
`And? What happened?' I asked, dying to know.
`The device killed him. We assumed it had been malfunctioning', he replied.
`Have you told Daniel about this?'
`No, I have not.'
`Hold on a minute... You agreed to Daniel when he said that Jack should be the one to stick his head into that thing... Why?' I asked, amazed, shocked, scared...
`I believe one of the reasons for which the slave died was because he was a Goa'uld host. That is why I believe O'Neill will not be unsuccessful in his attempt. I am afraid, of things going wrong, though.' He looked back at me and then bowed in his characteristic manner and continued his way to the Gate Room.
`I think we should tell at least Daniel... And Jack... about this whole thing...' I said, a bit frightened. It took me a while to admit it, but it was the first thing I feared which was not Ori-related. The life of one of my new friends was in danger... I could not let that happen. I had to tell Daniel. Teal'c looked at me for a couple of minutes before he answered:
`I believe Daniel Jackson will not want to go further with the plan if I tell him, but my consciousness tells me I have to let everyone on the team know about this affair... Therefore, I am in a dilemma.'
`I think I am going to tell Daniel about this... Maybe he will know how to deal with it... But if you were to ask me, I think we should try downloading this stuff into the brain of someone less important...' I replied.
I could tell Teal'c didn't really agree with me, but I have been thinking about it ever since Daniel brought it up. I should be the one to have all this stuff into my brain. After all, I am not as important to them as General O'Neill is. Maybe I should tell Daniel that it might be safer if I did the whole thing and let the General go fishing. But as soon as the thought entered my mind, I knew he wasn't going to let me do it.
Teal'c and I arrived in the Gate Room, and found the others waiting.
`Ready guys?' Mitchell asked.
`Ready...' I asked somewhat reluctant. I wanted to tell Daniel, though. `Can I have a word before Walter dials the Gate, Daniel?' I asked, pulling Daniel away from his team mates.
`What's the matter? You can't do this, not in the Gate Room, when everyone is ready to leave...' Daniel almost shouted at me.
`It's important. Sorry to ruin your protocol, or whatever, but it's only because Teal'c told me something on our way here...' I replied.
`What?' He asked. I told him the story of Aphopis's slave, exactly as Teal'c told it to me. The archaeologist shot me a blue gaze before he asked:
`Why didn't he say anything?' I told him what Teal'c said. He looked concerned.
`We should let Jack know...' he said.
`I think we should let Teal'c do it... I am sure he intends to, once we're there... He seemed pretty concerned...' I said. I think Daniel almost smiled. I knew he trusted me this time.
`We should go...'
`Everything ok?' Mitchell asked nervously.
`Yes, we're good to go...' Daniel answered.
Walter dialed the Gate (does he really have to say that whole "cheveron-i-don't-know-what-number" thing every time? Can't he just dial the Gate and be over with it?) and we all passed through.
`Follow me, please...' Daniel said, leading the way towards the Temple.
