BATTLESTAR GALACTICA NEWS
Season Three ratings slip from premiere

Friday - October 27, 2006 | by Darren Sumner

Battlestar Galactica fell in the ratings in the two weeks following its heavily publicized season premiere -- not at all unusual in the television world, but enough to make fans look twice after SCI FI Channel's recent cancellation of Stargate SG-1.

After premiering with a strong 1.8 average household rating and an estimated 2.2 million viewers for the 2-hour season premiere on October 6 (story), Galactica's "Exodus, Part 1" earned a 1.6 average rating in its second week.

"Exodus, Part 2" fell to a 1.5 rating on October 20.

Both episodes improved significantly on lead-in Doctor Who, which earned a 1.2 rating on October 13 and a 1.1 on October 20.

Galactica's premiere night got a noticable bump from DVR delayed viewing, with a "Live + 7 Days" rating of 2.0. (This is even with the show's second season finale in March.) Though an impressive increase and evidence of the show's Tivo-loving audience, note that this does not cancel out the 1.8 rating of "Live + Same Day," the number is regarded as more significant to advertisers.

Battlestar Galactica averaged a 1.9 rating for its winter 2006 season (the second half of Season Two), and a 2.0 for Season Two overall.

Brand new episodes of Battlestar Galactica continue every Friday at 9 p.m. Eastern/Pacific on SCI FI Channel!
