Stargate Online Trading Card Game launches

Thursday - June 14, 2007 | by Livi Dolgin

Sony Online and Comic Images have teamed up to develop an in-depth Stargate Online Trading Card Game! A print version arrived in stores in May.

Send your favorite Stargate SG-1 team members through the gate, and pit your tactical skills against a wide pool of opponents on the Internet or offline, depending on the purchase. With 300 cards to collect, there are endless strategies to devise and execute.

Digital, 60-card starter decks of the Stargate Online TCG are $10.99, with 11 card digital booster packs at $3.49, including six rare foil cards. Players collecting full sets of digital cards can redeem them for physical cards via the game's "Through the Gate" redemption program for table-top play.

The initial release is organized by the four original SG-1 teammembers: Colonel Jack O'Neill, Dr. Daniel Jackson, Samantha Carter, and Teal'c. Each starter pack contains cards for team characters, including characters through Season Ten. Each card is richly detailed and designed.

The starting set includes 20 hero cards, 20 villain cards, and various mission cards. Eleven-card booster packs add additional characters, in-game obstacles, new adversaries, and gear for your squad. Practice games and tournaments are possible with every configuration of trading card sets and subsets allowed. The system even allows switching from playing heroes to villains.

Online tournament and league play are rewarded with free cards and worldwide rankings. A deck-builder management system allows you to keep track of your cards. Save time and focus just on the game with the automatic shuffling and rules feature.

Players can customize their gaming with an easy drop-down menu. A Buddy List gives you control over who plays or who observes. Help is available on the forum with discussions of the games as well.

Upcoming releases will introduce Stargate Atlantis cards, as well as add to the depth of the SG-1 game's complexity. Get trading and playing at Stargate Online, where you can download a free demo and tutorial to learn how to play! Look for the print version of the Stargate trading card game from Comic Images at comic and other specialty stores.
