Stargate Atlantis wins People's Choice Award

Tuesday - January 8, 2008 | by Darren Sumner

UPDATE: The cast's acceptance speech and also a short Q&A video with cast members Joe Flanigan, David Hewlett, Rachel Luttrell, and Jewel Staite is now online at PCAVote.com.

Stargate Atlantis is the winner of the People's Choice Award for Favorite Sci-Fi Show!

Atlantis toppled some stiff competition to pick up its first win in the 34th annual awards, voted on by viewers. The show was up against longtime genre favorites Battlestar Galactica and Doctor Who.

"MGM and the Stargate Atlantis cast and crew are honored to be nominated for this prestigious People's Choice award," MGM Senior Executive Vice President Charles E. Cohen said of the show's nomination, in November. "With the series confirmed to return for a fifth season on SCI FI, two Stargate movies set for release next year, and a Stargate online role playing game currently in development, the franchise continues to be a timeless force."

The cast of Atlantis accepted the award in a pre-taped segment, which aired tonight on CBS hosted by Queen Latifah.

Congratulations to everyone at MGM and Stargate!
