Every SG-1 viewer in the online Stargate fandom is firmly aware that the DVD release for Stargate: The Ark of Truth is March 11, just a few weeks away. But what about the music lovers in the viewing audience? Can we expect the film to receive soundtrack treatment?
Composer Joel Goldsmith quashes any rumor. "I'm looking at the artwork of it right now. I hold it in my hand," he told GateWorld. "Robert [Cooper, writer/director] has just approved the artwork. Robert wrote a lot of the liner notes. We are trying to coordinate it with the DVD release. We were trying to surprise."
Stargate: The Ark of Truth resolves many threads in the Stargate SG-1 storyline, and also returns at least one that viewers would not expect. These threads are illustrated, not just with the dialogue and events, but musically as well.
One unexpected surprise is the musical references to the original feature film. "We opened up with the original 'Stargate' main theme and bridge," Goldsmith said. "Instead of going to what was the Goa'uld (or "Ra") theme we went to the Ori theme. Immediately I transitioned into a conversation underground, which I don't want to get into too much until you see the movie."
We are assured to expect the same treatment for Stargate: Continuum as well -- a soundtrack, that is. "That finished recording last week," Goldsmith told GateWorld. "Both of them were done with symphony orchestras, and I think that's apparent. On Ark of Truth we used a big choir. We really used it to terrific effect. It really got to be highlighted. We used choir as well in Continuum, which is a terrific film as well. Continuum is mixed and done and is fabulous."
As The Ark of Truth's release draws closer GateWorld will publish more details regarding specific themes fans can look forward to. Stick with us for a sneak peek at the CD cover art for the soundtrack!
