'Infection' plotline revealed

Tuesday - November 18, 2008 | by Darren Sumner

Beware of SPOILERS for Season Five's "Infection" in this report.

A quick update today on the upcoming Stargate Atlantis episode "Infection." Though we did have a spoiler report on this episode several months ago, the basic plot remained something of a mystery ... until now.

TV Guide has published its logline description of the episode, which reads:

A distress call from a hive ship over Atlantis leads the team to discover a Wraith crew in stasis, with all hands stricken with a disease caused in part by Dr. Keller's gene therapy.

We knew that Sheppard's team explores a (not entirely) abandoned hive ship in this episode. This description reveals why: the ship has shown up in orbit over Atlantis and sent out a distress call, because the entire crew has been afflicted with a disease.

Dr. Keller's gene therapy, for those keeping score, was developed from Michael's research in order to physiologically alter the Wraith so that they don't have to feed on the life force of humans any more ("The Kindred, Part 2," "Search and Rescue"). The plan was introduced to "Todd" earlier this season ("The Queen"), and he agreed to test the treatment on some of the Wraith under his control ("First Contact"). Now it seems that the treatment doesn't quite work as advertised.

"Infection" will air Friday, December 5 at 9 p.m. (8 Central) on the SCI FI Channel in the U.S. Learn more in GateWorld's episode guide!
