NICHOLAS RUSH
Title: Doctor
Played By: Robert Carlyle

When a group of scientists and soldiers find themselves trapped on an Ancient ship in the far reaches of space, Dr. Rush works to unlock the mysteries of the Ancient ship Destiny and return the group home. But evidence of his ulterior motives soon arises.

EVERETT YOUNG
Rank: Colonel
Played By: Louis Ferreira

Colonel Young requested to serve the remainder of his commission on Earth upon marrying his wife, Hailey, two years ago, but for now he commands a secret off-world base. The loss of two members of his team several years ago has taught him to be prepared for anything.

MATTHEW SCOTT
Rank: Lieutenant
Played By: Brian J. Smith

Green and rough around the edges, Lt. Scott is thrust into the role of leader well before he is ready for the responsibility. He must learn to command, earn the respect of his people through action, and manage the diverse personalities aboard the ship.

TAMARA JOHANSEN
Rank: First Lieutenant
Played By: Alaina Huffman

Beautiful, tough, and from a modest background, Tamara joined the Air Force when she couldn’t afford medical school. With only paramedic-level training, she ends up being the most medically inclined person on the ship — but is overwhelmed by her lack of knowledge and experience.

ELI WALLACE
Civilian
Played By: David Blue

Eli is a total slacker … who just happens to be an utter genius with anything he puts his mind to, be it computers, mathematics, video games, or anything else. A lack of confidence has left him with an acerbic sense of humor.

CHLOE ARMSTRONG
Civilian
Played By: Elyse Levesque

Stunning and sexy, Chloe is the daughter of a U.S. Senator. She had a silver spoon upbringing and is a little spoiled … but politically and socially savvy. She dreams of following in her father’s footsteps, but the dire circumstances of being trapped on a spaceship seriously tests her character.

RONALD GREER
Rank: Master Sergeant
Played By: Jamil Walker Smith

Sergeant Greer is a Marine with an explosive temper that he finds hard to control. His past is a mystery, but it’s clear that something dark formed the hard shell around him. He’d rather take the fight to the enemy than stand still.

CAMILLE WRAY
Civilian
Played By: Ming-Na

A human resources executive with the international organization with oversight of the Stargate program, Wray finds herself on the Destiny very much against her will. She believes her opinion should carry a lot of weight with Dr. Rush and Colonel Young. Probably a recurring character.

TELFORD
Rank: Colonel
Played By: Lou Diamond Phillips

A lifelong military man, Colonel Telford is the chosen leader of the ill-fated expedition. But things don’t go quite as planned when an enemy attacks the secret research base from which his long-awaited mission was to launch. Possibly recurring or a guest star for the 3-hour premiere.

The full January 16 press release follows on Page 2, and the February 25 press release on Page 3.

  • Wow, really unimpressive comments, guys! First it was complaints that the cast was going to just be “young and sexy”, now I’m seeing complaints that some of these guys are too old and too ugly (absolutely no interest in their acting skills, apparently). Even more miraculous is the fact that people are STILL calling it Stargate 90210 despite the fact that every new bit of info we get completely counters that idea.

As for complaints that they all look so serious and moody – they’re headshots, that’s what they’re supposed to look like. It’s fine to judge and have an opinion, but try to focus your ire on something a bit more relevant.

Complaints about the “lack of gate travel” are just unfounded and ridiculous. We don’t have any idea what the show is really about yet, much less the specific technology it will use. I’m also fairly sure that the writers haven’t forgotten that it’s called “Stargate”… ;) Honestly now.

I agree with the comment that compares the concept to “Proving Ground” – that’s exactly what came to mind when I heard the premise. As for the T&A factor in the female bios – I agree that it’s annoying, but it’s in every single show ever made; even Ugly Betty’s hot. It’s unfair to judge SGU for it.

I think it’s especially classy how people are attacking the poor SGU actors themselves, particularly their looks. The lack of respect is very offensive, and represents Stargate fans as a very rude, unwelcoming lot. It’s fine to be uninterested in the new show and upset about the loss of SGA, but there’s no need to spread so much hate around.

Personally, I wish the franchise all the best, and I hope Stargate is on the air for a long time to come, regardless of the subtitle.

  • I think it says a lot about me that I’m incredibly excited that the guy who was Gerald in ‘Hey Arnold’ is gonna be in SG. :D

  • I think part of the problem is the press releases SF keeps putting out. I already mentioned how they make the Chloe character sound. But “younger in tone” immediately makes me think of Seaquest season 2. Not that season 1 was a lot better, but replacing everybody but the captain with a young looker is not the way to improve a show. Unless it’s on Cinemax ;)

  • Looks like a solid cast.

Now let’s see some pictures of the new writing staff!

  • Hmmm…. The guys have all been cast, I don’t really recognize anybody, we’ll have to wait and see

  • Well it’s as bad as I feared. This is shaping up to be a ‘30 something ’soap opera. I loved SG1 and Atlantis and have watched them both from thier first episode. This group DO NOT appeal to me at all.I hope all the younger audience they’re going for like it because they’ve lost me, a long time fan. This isn’t sour grapes because they cancelled Atlantis (although I am bitterly disappointed)but this doesn’t seem like a stargate project to me.I’m not even going to watch the pilot. They’ve lost me I’m afraid.

  • Ha! why don’t you ‘oldies’ give the show a go. I’m not saying that all of you are going to like it, but you should still check it out before hating it already. Or maybe you are getting too old for this kind of TV, its your own choice.
And to all those saying this cast is similar to Atlantis, well consider the cast of Atlantis compared to SG-1. Major similarities, but there was no commotion back then. Come to think of it, did anyone even complain about Atlantis back in 2004?

  • “Come to think of it, did anyone even complain about Atlantis back in 2004?”

Some did (not me…). I remember seeing a lot of people compare it to Voyager because the first season premise with the Atlantis expedition stuck in the Pegasus galaxy reminded them of it.

  • So in between Eli being a geek and a genius I wonder if the video games he potentially plays with Scott is video golf? Scott of course is forced into the position of authority after Colonel Sumner dies – no wait, that was that other show. Though it’s good to see that Young is battling inner demons after losing someone in the war – I bet from here on in he leaves no man behind and will sacrifice himself for his team. No, no wait, wasn’t that a character of that programme…I forget its name.

And gee, Tamara isn’t confident in her role as Head Medic. I’m glad, because it worked so well in the outswelling of fan love for Keller when they went this route. Though she’s ‘beautiful’ while Chloe is ’stunning and sexy’ so I’m glad that we’ll be able to tell the female characters apart, possibly by the amount of cleverage they’re showing.

And of course, Greer: the Stargate requisite Angry Black Man. He’s a fighter who likes to kill the Wraith, I mean, enemy, but this time he’s not an alien so at least we’ll be able to distinguish him from all the other POC Warriors of past such as Teal’c and Ronon and Teyla, and angry!Bates, and angry!junkiebug!Ford…

    *headdesk, headdesk, headdesk*

  • I still for the life of me don’t understand why they dropped the SGA when it’s rating were so high. But I will at least give them the benefit of the doubt and watch the SGU in the fall. But the SGU sounds a lot like the StarTrek Enterprise Series. We’ll see how this all plays out.

  • *lol* I thought it was funny that when i loaded this page the add in the upper right hand corner was for “Gaymilitarydating” – the picture of those guys almost looks like some of the crew *g*

Anyway, where are the babes? When are they going to cast them, eh?

(Not that it matters much, they are probably going to be in the usual hollyweird style of being waay under weight)

  • I hope when they pick the girls to play in this
they are the athletic type with boobs
Not plastic Hollywood types, Natural looking girls.

  • What? What?!? Sorry. still holding my ribs laughing over Lando the Space Pimp. Oh I needed that. Thank You! Ooooooooo. lmao.

  • Why no alien? It would make sense to have brought some of their allies aboard – Tok’ra and/or Jaffa. It would have made the premise of this show far more interesting. Another option would be to find out that a vital character has been taken as host by a Goa’uld, but the Goa’uld has abilities they depend on so they have to allow him/her to keep the host.

  • Okay, I’ve read all the comments, and figured I should add my own two cents to see if I can season things up a bit. I’m really excited about seeing Robert Carlisle; I really like him as an actor and I think he’ll bring that maturity factor to the team. The rest of the male cast seem to be pretty promising, though I do wish there had been more racial diversity in casting. The big thing that I am worried about, however, is the casting of the female roles. I agree with many other commenters who have referenced Carter as a good model to work from. Amanda Tapping/Carter has that air of maturity and professionality, as does Doc Frasier, Dr. Weir, and Teyla. I am so afraid that the female leads for this show will be cast with actresses who do not “fit” into the roles. Maybe it’s just me, but a lot of the time, I watch movies or shows and cringe at the “cartoony” undertones in terms of the acting quality and the appearance of the actors. I can’t stress enough how important it is for the actresses to “fit” into these roles.

Similarly, I am a little concerned about the Chloe Walker character…my first thought when I read the mini-bio went straight to Shannon from Lost. That character really rubbed me the wrong way with her brattish attitude and lack of concern for anyone other than herself. I’ll be okay if Chloe Walker starts the show as a spoiled brat, as long as there are immediate signs of growth. But the second one of the male characters oggles her cleavage is the second I turn off the television. I have high hopes for Tamara, but very high expectations for Chloe to rise above being the sex-appeal of the show.

  • Where is the female characters? I feel that something is missing here..

  • Can we stop with all the whining before the show starts? First of all, I’m finding it rather silly that we’re judging the show on rough character sketches. Do they sound like cliche archetypes? Of course they do, until they actually get the chance to act a scene. Jack O’Niell is just a “gruff middle-aged military commander with a dark past” until you’re more than 5 episodes in.

I also find it rather sad/funny that we’re talking about the looks of the characters to begin with it. I hope I’m not breaking news here, but Stargate has always been extremely shallow when it came to casting. I’m not saying the actors weren’t great, but you could almost always assign a character’s relevance to the main story arc by how good looking the person was. If you were too goofy looking, you were comic relief (Dr. Lee) or dinner (Dr. Graydon). The only deviation I can think of to this was the addition of Robert Picardo, but even he was created as a rather silly bureaucrat to start with in SG-1.

I’m just saying, I haven’t heard anything on Universe that will make or break the series and probably won’t until I see a few episodes of actual dialogue. I’m also saying, everyone’s partially right only that they probably ought to have more goofy/normal people because the “insanely attractive = someone I have to pay attention to” equation is getting a little stale. Mix it up a little.

  • Also, they “angry black man” comment was dead on the more I think about it. Teal’c was the first Stargate charector in this vein so I think he gets a pass, but it does seem like the darker your skin gets, the more apt you are to be some form of “fighter” on these series. Hell, Ford’s charector apparently “didn’t work” according to the producers (which is funny because it was actually the start of a decent buddy pairing) until they made him a drugged out military nut job. Add that to the “formulae that may require updating” file.

  • Well, I’ll be honest, when I read the Chloe description, I immediately thought of Paris Hilton meets the Smallville Lois Lane.

  • “OH MY GOD” !!!!!!!!

Yes its as bad as I thought it would be.

Firstly I dont give a stuff what the actors look like, they could be ugly or beatiful it doesnt matter its whether they can act thats inportant to me. So all this chatter about what they look like bores the pants of off me their actors its there job to make role come to life.

Lets hope they are up to the challenge as they have VERY VERY BIG SHOES TO FILL.

Im 43 years old and I know that this show its not for me I cant stand Soap Operas if I did I’d watch bloody Eastenders and Corrie and Hollyoaks.

BUT I DONT, its not the fact that this new show may or may not be good (but it does sound like a soap opera in space), its the fact that those in charge SCREWED over SGA fans BIG STYLE!!!!

I said this so many times they should have run the shows togethers to allow us to get used to it.

BUT THEY DIDNT and now expect us to be “A OK”.

Well some us “ARE NOT” yes this is unfair to SGU but I dont give a stuff anymore.

A)why should I give loyality to SGU after they did this to SGA.

    B) Why should I buy anything that relates to SGU. I would rather watch reruns of SG1/SGA than be bother with tuning in to SGU.

Sorry the fact of the matter is MGM/Sci FI and Cooper/Wright has lost me as a viewer.

I really really hope they do lots more SGA and SG1 movies but I think that might be empty promises, I cant put it across strongly enough how disgusted I feel with the treatment of the existing SGA fans and how gutted I am with the canelation of SGA.

Its now a matter of principle and YES I am cutting my nose to spite my face and that can be consider VERY CHILDISH I agree. BUT I dont see any other course of action, other than boycotting SGU and any products that go on the market.

Its a small gesture I know and most likley wont make a blind bit of difference BUT ITS MAKES ME FEEL BETTER!!! At least I will have made my stand.

This could have all been avoided without pissing off 1000s of fan across the world.

Good luck to those who want to see SGU and hope its gives those people what they want from it.

But as someone said earlier for my team fix I’ll stick CSI New York, and I’ll be looking to see what the other projects likes of Joe Flanigan, David Hewlett and co are doing and thats where my viewing will be and I’ll happly by DVDs with theses guys in.

AGAIN I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND WHY IT WAS DONE LIKE THIS AND NEVER WILL.

  • I hope the two women cast members are good looking, but i hope even more so that they are not just eye candy. I hope there characters are used to the fullest potential.
They seem to be taking there time in casting them, i hope that is a good sign, and a lot of thought is going in to casting the right actress’s.

I will hold my comments on the male cast members until i have seen the first few shows.

  • All Stargate does now is PLAGIARIZE Star Trek. I mean they literally rip off EVERYTHING. Now they’ve even ripped off a whole series (*cough* Voyager). I cant wait for a Seven Of Nine rip off in the second season.

  • Oh if they cast Leroy Jethro Gibbs on SGU, then I would be a devoted fan instantly. I very much doubt they could pull him away from NCIS, and wouldn’t want him to be taken away from NCIS. He is one I would consider on the level equivalent to RDA that I know I would definitely follow the show. I’m not sure at this time with current casting, but will keep an open mind and give it a chance for a bit first.
