NICHOLAS RUSH
Title: Doctor
Played By: Robert Carlyle
When a group of scientists and soldiers find themselves trapped on an Ancient ship in the far reaches of space, Dr. Rush works to unlock the mysteries of the Ancient ship Destiny and return the group home. But evidence of his ulterior motives soon arises.
EVERETT YOUNG
Rank: Colonel
Played By: Louis Ferreira
Colonel Young requested to serve the remainder of his commission on Earth upon marrying his wife, Hailey, two years ago, but for now he commands a secret off-world base. The loss of two members of his team several years ago has taught him to be prepared for anything.
MATTHEW SCOTT
Rank: Lieutenant
Played By: Brian J. Smith
Green and rough around the edges, Lt. Scott is thrust into the role of leader well before he is ready for the responsibility. He must learn to command, earn the respect of his people through action, and manage the diverse personalities aboard the ship.
TAMARA JOHANSEN
Rank: First Lieutenant
Played By: Alaina Huffman
Beautiful, tough, and from a modest background, Tamara joined the Air Force when she couldn’t afford medical school. With only paramedic-level training, she ends up being the most medically inclined person on the ship — but is overwhelmed by her lack of knowledge and experience.
ELI WALLACE
Civilian
Played By: David Blue
Eli is a total slacker … who just happens to be an utter genius with anything he puts his mind to, be it computers, mathematics, video games, or anything else. A lack of confidence has left him with an acerbic sense of humor.
CHLOE ARMSTRONG
Civilian
Played By: Elyse Levesque
Stunning and sexy, Chloe is the daughter of a U.S. Senator. She had a silver spoon upbringing and is a little spoiled … but politically and socially savvy. She dreams of following in her father’s footsteps, but the dire circumstances of being trapped on a spaceship seriously tests her character.
RONALD GREER
Rank: Master Sergeant
Played By: Jamil Walker Smith
Sergeant Greer is a Marine with an explosive temper that he finds hard to control. His past is a mystery, but it’s clear that something dark formed the hard shell around him. He’d rather take the fight to the enemy than stand still.
CAMILLE WRAY
Civilian
Played By: Ming-Na
A human resources executive with the international organization with oversight of the Stargate program, Wray finds herself on the Destiny very much against her will. She believes her opinion should carry a lot of weight with Dr. Rush and Colonel Young. Probably a recurring character.
TELFORD
Rank: Colonel
Played By: Lou Diamond Phillips
A lifelong military man, Colonel Telford is the chosen leader of the ill-fated expedition. But things don’t go quite as planned when an enemy attacks the secret research base from which his long-awaited mission was to launch. Possibly recurring or a guest star for the 3-hour premiere.

For the new female regulars on SGU, please please do not make them idiots. For this to be “believable”, you know that if there really ever was a “real” Star Gate, then only the most knowledgable of people would be allowed to even come close to working anything related to it. Spoiled little rich girls who know nothing about anything would never allowed anywhere near it. Samantha Carter very believable, but spoiled rich kid, no way. It’s just kind of silly in a dumb kind of way. Sorry, but it’s true.
MischievousMidget | January 25 @ 2:08 amI am happily retired and blessed with quite a bit of “disposable income” which I’ve used in the past to purchase SGA DVDs, action figures, attend fan functions, etc. SGU:90210 will no benefit from a penny from me. I will still support any and all SGA movies and DVDs, but I won’t waste either time nor money on this travesty.
rsharpe | January 25 @ 11:41 pmOr perhaps … watch it and see if you like it?
I can think of a whole lot of shows I’ve never seen and am not interested in, for one reason or another. But I can’t think of any that I dislike and, simultaneously, have never seen.
Darren Sumner | January 26 @ 12:22 amI agree with rshape, no monies will be sent on SGU and I have NO desire to watch this programe whether it be good or not!!!!
Boycoting SGU is my only recourse at the cancelation of SGA and the way this WHOLE MESS has been dealt with my MGM/Sci FI and especially Cooper & Wright.
cherie | January 26 @ 4:34 amYou know, if they would of kept Atlantis running for another season or two like they did with SG-1 when Atlantis was released, I would of welcomed the new show with open arms, because it would of been a bonus. Now, I’m really bitter. And while I intend to give the new show a chance, I just can’t help but looking at this show and thinking, it better be really, really, REALLY good to have been worth ending Atlantis for. And that has been the producers first mistake, angering all the current fans. Not a great start so far.
Hawkwinter | January 26 @ 10:01 amwasn’t there a rumor awhile back about an older Stargate regular being on the Universe cast. Guess that fell through.
Toothbrush | January 26 @ 5:30 pmPlease go for excellent scripts. Spend decent money on them and look for large dashes of humour, where possible and even allow adlibs. It always works well with Sci Fi – epitomised by SG1. This recipie = success.
Sussitout | January 29 @ 7:41 amWell i thought it was surpost to start filming in just two weeks time, I thought the last two main cast members shopuld be knowen by now.
Still 7 main cast members is quite a lot for stargate, i wonder how many will go on to be main cast members by year two? if it go’s to a second year.
dreadtech | January 29 @ 10:25 amI thing sgu will have good characters. I am not sure about the Chloe Walker character. I don’t know how she would be part of the sg team. I hope she’s not just there to try and attract veiwers. I am not sure about sgu’s whole “younger and edgier” goals. Whenever I hear that I think about the younger SG1 in the episode “200″
stargate_mike | January 29 @ 10:39 amI am not sure about sgu’s whole “younger and edgier” goals. “Whenever I hear that I think about the younger SG1 in the episode “200″.
Agreed. A bit manic and hyper. Who needs it?
Sussitout | January 30 @ 4:11 amDid anyone else think that the guy that played Jayne in firefly would’ve been a great choice for the leading man role? Plus I believe he’s already been on stargate before so they could’ve just brought in that character. Ah well, just wishful thinking at this point.
Ghost in the Machine | January 30 @ 3:31 pmI agree with Darren about watching the show first before we say we dont like it. I cant say anything because I have not seen it. But I can say this. Its does sucks SGA is axed, and I do miss both Sg-1 and SGA. I will watch Universe though because then we can already see how it is or where its going. I’m sure lots of people will give it a change to prove itself as a new series, and maby it will get new fans as well. And that is what there aiming for.
Jazz | February 3 @ 8:05 amRe ghost in machine: Yeah Adam Baldwin makes a great lead, and yes he was in Stargate, Dale or Dave Dixon or something similar, in Heroes part 1 breifly if I recall. Problem is, he’s busy playing a main character on Chuck, which I high reccommend you check out
rtk142 | February 11 @ 1:12 amI don’t like this characters at all. Too young !!!! NO personality at all.
SGA_FAN | February 15 @ 12:19 pmI think they look perfect for a POWER RANGERS show.
Too young?
Richard Dean Anderson not included do you remember how old the SG-1 cast were when season 1 started.
Tanith | February 26 @ 9:56 amPlease!Bring back Dr. Meredith Rodney McKay !!!:)LOL
Lucian0 | March 9 @ 3:07 amGod help me. So scifi channel is that desperate for a battlestar replacment? ( it was the best thing they’ve ever done) Let me help those of you who are confused. First I will list character outlines then the battlestar character with the sgu clone.
Molurai77 | June 13 @ 11:29 pm1. Brillant doctor with ulterior motives: Dr. Nick Rush/Dr.Giaus Baltar
2.Strong commander who wanted st stay home at the end of his military service : Col. Young/ Adm. Bill Adama
3. Young untested officer forced to become a leader before hes ready : Lt. Scott/ Lt. Lee Adama
4. Tough and sexy blond female character , can hang with the boys while dealing with her own problems and lack of self esteem : Temera Johansen / Lt. Kara Thrace
5. Brillant outsider who does not belong, and everyone doubts but appreciates in a secondary role : Eli Wallace/ Lt. Felix Getta
6. Strong female character whose political background will serve as a moral counter to the military leaders in charge of the “mission” : Chloe Armstrong/ President Lura Roslin
7. Gruff dark charcter who leaps before he looks, mysterious and confused but well liked and trusted by the crew : Ronald Greer / Chief Galin Tyrell ( side note : He looks like T’ealc)
8. Recurring character who is self important , meddling and will complicate various issues of various episodes and be hated by the viewers : Camile Wray / Boomer/Athena cylon, All the six model incarnations, all the Lioban model cylons etc.
9. A desperate group of survivors on a old spaceship with scarce resources, malfuctioning technology who are lost and trying to find thier way home while enduring dark plot twists that involve issues of human nature and a grey area in which to battle thier own need for morality versus survival at dire cost with interweaving story threads that carry on over multiple seasons : SG-U/BSG
The truth always points to itself my friends.
Tamara’s rank seems to have changed to First Lieutenant again – page probably needs updating to reflect that!!
Having watched some of the character profile stuff on the MGM website, some of the characters are actually starting to grow on me. Armstrong and Greer not so much, but David Blue seems far too like me IRL for me not to like his character; and Rush, Young, Scott, and Johansen seem like really well concieved and interesting characters.
Yeah, so it isn’t the same as Atlantis or SG-1. But it’s the next logical step. SG-1 started out with five characters, with Hammond only really there to facilitate the SG-1 missions early on. Atlantis went a step further, involving Weir, Beckett, Carter, Woolsey and Keller in the story much more, as well as recurring characters like Lorne and Zelenka. Universe is just going one step beyond that: they’re including Lorne, Zelenka et al as “main characters” from the get-go, rather than waiting for them to grow into that role over time.
I think the exploration of young characters is going to be interesting as well. The danger with having experienced veteran characters like we had in SG-1 and Atlantis is that they’ll constantly be able to solve problems, whether by O’Neill breaking out some of his military experience, McKay cooking up some science voodoo, or whatever. The people in Universe don’t have a decade or so of experience to fall back on. Seeing them out of their depth might make for an interesting, fresh perspective on the concept.
Seriously though: the fan base complained that Atlantis was just a rehash of SG-1, in a new setting; and yet, as soon as the writers address those concerns, we turn around and moan becuase its “too different”. Why the hell do we have to be so hard to please?
o6untouchable | July 9 @ 9:19 amI hope this doesn’t turn out to be some bastard version of Stargate Galactica or Voyager 2.0.. One of the reasons (for me anyway) the series Enterprise didn’t do so well was the “yee-haw we’re explorin space!” feel and lack of structure that Starfleet regulations provided in the later episodes. And with Voyager I didn’t care for the whole internal conflict with trying to integrate the Maquis. I know I am comparing 2 different universes here but from what I have read so far I am worried they are taking some of what I consider to be the worse elements from other shows, slapping a new label on them and thinking it will be more “mainstream”. Guys… you have a working formula making good money, don’t deviate too far from what made the first two great.
Chris512 | July 9 @ 4:09 pmTo the people out there that are complaining and threatening that Universe had better be good, I have to say this. Watching Atlantis for the first time when it aired, I found it BORING!! The constant “the Wraith are evil” grew thin very quickly, and also, I feel that SG-1 suffered from trying to keep both SG-1 and Atlantis running at the same time… Anyone else notice how as soon as SG-1 finished and all the attention was clearly focused on Atlantis how the story line improved immensely? It would have been great to get another season of Atlantis and I feel like the made season 5 a little to convenient with many things that happened to wrap up a lot of things, it was done quite well, but things just fell in to place that had been a hinderance for ages.
Yes it’s sad that Atlantis is finished in favour of starting Universe, but since they will have their whole creative team focused on it we can do nothing but hope for the quality we have been getting in Atlantis from season 3 onwards. I for one am looking forward to a more character heavy plot that gives the series a sense of connectedness that was lost in SG-1, sure they were a team but there was little emotion or reason for them being there for each other than that they were a team. Atlantis changed that by making them dependent on each other because they were stuck in another galaxy.
But I really do hope that we see characters unlike what we have seen in SG-1 or Atlantis, I’d love to see one of the characters have a total break down or run away from an enemy and be scared rather than always being bravado and facing it. To be able to relate to that character in some way and say “that is probably what I would do”.
As for it being compared to Battlestar, just stop! Stargate has it’s own history and mythology. I think the writers and producers know what direction they want to take and not to stray to far, but Battlestar was (and still is) fantastic sci-fi action/drama. This is a franchise trying to take that next step from “problem of the week” to try and meet that standard that many sci-fi fans in general are now going to expect.
Give Universe a chance and be thankful we had 5 fantastic seasons of Atlantis and 10 of SG1 rather than producers making a few more half baked seasons of each and ending them when they can be remembered as something wonderful and engaging rather than overstaying their welcome.
Bring on October I say!!!
aymonkun | August 19 @ 10:37 amstill waiting for the battle between the wraith and the ori will universe make that happen?
