Watch the first Stargate Universe preview!

Friday - March 20, 2009
Category: GENERAL | Tags: ,

Beware of minor SPOILERS for the premiere of Stargate Universe in the clip and report below.

The first look at SCI FI Channel’s new fall series Stargate Universe has arrived! The 30-second preview aired tonight on the cable network, alongside the 2-hour series finale of Battlestar Galactica.

Check it out below (the Full Screen option is near the bottom right corner), and come back soon for screen caps and a higher quality version of the video. You can also watch it at SciFi.com.

In this clip, titled “Frantic,” a team of Earth scientists and military personnel are in the middle of an emergency evacuation to the uninhabited Ancient ship Destiny.

Nearly every main character can be spotted in the quick-cut video. Robert Carlyle’s Dr. Nicholas Rush is front-and-center, but also watch for clear shots of Chloe Armstrong (Elyse Levesque), Matthew Scott (Brian J. Smith), Eli Wallace (David Blue), Everett Young (Justin Louis), Tamara Johansen (Alaina Huffman), and Colonel Telford (Lou Diamond Phillips).

With the tagline “The only mission is survival,” the clip reveals the dark and dangerous tone of the series — a dramatic (pun intended) departure from Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. The challenge for SGU will be to do that while maintaining familiar connections to the established mythology of the shows that have preceded it.

Find out more about the show in GateWorld’s exclusive SGU Launch Center! We have details on the first 10 episodes of Season One, character breakdowns, an interview with actor Brian J. Smith, the first cast photo, and more.

Stargate Universe premieres this fall on SCI FI Channel in the United States.

(Thanks to the many, many fans who wrote in with this tip!)

  • I can’t believe how much negativity is floating around over a show that hasn’t even aired yet. If I recall the same people complaining over the cancellation of SGA were the same people saying how much they hated the final few seasons, yet when there is a chance to dive deeper into the Stargate back story where countless scenarios may take place, the same people won’t even give the show a chance. This is exactly what happened when the news that a Transformers film was to made, they ripped the idea to shreds and then when it came out we get all the comments from those people saying “I knew it would work” or “I said we should give it a chance” This is exactly what will happen here, most, not all, of the naysayers will be saying exactly the same things. How about we give the show a chance and then say how bad or good it is.
P.S Please no comments about how this is not transformers, I am fully aware, Thanks.

  • I will give it a chance. I own every DVD of every season of this franchise, star trek and BSG for goodness sake…. but, I am going to be a littl upset if this is 90210 on a ship without some really good action and bad___ aliens.

You think these folks are negative… take a visit over the Startrek.com and see what they are saying about the new Star Trek movie… geepers.

  • Is there 8 chevrons or 9? What are they going to be doing? It’s too dark. It’s too much like bsg.

Did I slip into an AU where no one here is an actual fan of the stargate show?? Did NO ONE read the press release? Or any of those pesky information pages that introduced the concept of the show???

I’m a mixture of sad and frightened by the people commenting around here. Or maybe the real fans are actually laughing their asses off at the wanna-be fans, while they’re out preparing for the possibility that this may not be what we’re all used to but hey it just might be good.

I pouted at Atlantis and ended up loving it. I’m unconvinced about this but I’m willing to sit back and watch it unfold. Last I checked that’s what life in general is all about. No one’s forcing you to watch it. And if you miss SG1 and SGA so much go buy the DVD’s and rewatch it, there’s only a few days worth. And when you’re done with that watch it all again with the commentaries. Maybe when you’re done you’ll have someone around to tell you how it all turned out with this one. No sense wondering if you’ll like it if you can have someone tell you for absolute certain you will.

No offence intended to all the people who actually have half a brain and made intelligent comments.

  • There are a lot of old bitter commenter here who will fight the new show till the end. Unfortunately for them, they are no longer the target demographic, and need to move on to backgammon or something. I can only imagine the kinds of whine-sessions they are having over the new Star Trek movie even though it looks absolutely amazing. As someone in his early 20’s, get over it. I have been watching stargate since it began. Stargate the movie has been my favorite movie since it came out, even though I was young. I think the new show looks awesome, and I hate BSG.

  • Look I am also in the target demograpic for universe and I will watch it when it comes out. But that still doesn’t mean that the people who complain don’t have a right to. I’ve watched Stargate since day one and there are things about Universe that has me worried. Of course I will have to watch first before forming a legitmate opinion. But I think no one should told they are stupid for giving a negative opinion. Let’s face it, The Majority will have the sayso when Universe comes out, Good or Bad.

  • I agree everybody has the right to say her or his opinion about the series SGU and what they think of it so far. I also have seen all the Stargate series Sg-1 and then SGA. I also said jeez why another Stargate series, but I also fell in love with SGA and still hate they stopt the series. SG-1 will always be my all time favorite series that is one thing that will never change. Now as for SGU its all a bit vague indeed wich is their intention ofcourse to build the tension( exitement) up for us. From this little preview you cant make up if it will be good or not its dark and vague, but also a thing they do to build up and people just need to see the series want to see how it realy goes when it comes on tv, and I am sure of it ,that lots of people will watch I am sure of that. You dont need a crystal ball to see that. I do hope people will give this SGU a chance to prove themselfs. And maby we all will like or love the new series you never know. I still dont think its great what they done with SGA though and people wont forget this either.
But I am curious of this new series, and I am looking forward to it, and see how it is, and then afther we realy actualy seen the series we can talk about it. Now we dont realy know much except the info here is given to us. It doesn’t matter wich series it is they bring on tv its always a waiting and see if people love it or hate it. if we dont give it a change were never are going to like it so I say watch it this fall!

  • Not sure what I think of this.
Might as well call it “Stargate: Voyager” though, from the premise of it.
Nothing wrong with that though, loved Voyager.

  • I agree with you SGAFan… this looks like the culmination of what happens to scifi writers after they watch too much regular TV programming.

It felt like a little Ghost Hunters (Gag!) and BSG mixed together.

BSG was a good show for the most part but that is not the Stargate feel.

Of course I will watch it but, the trailor honestly doesn’t interest me, and that is a sad thing as TPTB decided to end SGA…

  • Has anyone ever thought that they wanted to make this teaser feel like BSG since it was aired during the series finale of BSG?! They are obviously trying to attract a greater fan base so what better way than to intrigue people with a new show that’s “similar” to their show that’s not going to be aired anymore. Give SGU a chance based on it’s actual content in the Pilot and not what’s projected to be in it. The World of Warcraft beta was much different than what it was at launch and it ended up being the best selling MMO ever (for now at least). Fans don’t want to read through the comments and find a bunch of whining babies.

  • Im a huge fan of stargate, especailly SGA, so as a fan im hoping that SGU can connect to the origional fanbase, i think there are a lot of people out there who would agree and although im kinda ticked that SGA got cancled im willing to be optomistic towards SGU and i can’t wait for stargate to return!

  • O and i really hope it doesnt turn into the new BSG, if all i wanted was a survivor show i would watch man versus wild, but im willing to give it a chance.
