“Daniel Jackson” actor Michael Shanks will help to kick off the third Stargate television series, making a cameo appearance in the series premiere of Stargate Universe, “Air,” consulting producer Joseph Mallozzi confirmed on his blog.

“Michael will have a cameo in the premiere,” he said.

Shanks will join former SG-1 co-star Richard Dean Anderson (“Jack O’Neill”), who recently confirmed that he will appear in the premiere. SG-1′s Gary Jones (“Walter Harriman”) has also announced his participation (story).

Shanks’ most recent appearance in the Stargate franchise was just last year, in the mid-season two-parter of Atlantis‘s fifth season. He and Anderson both gave the Atlantis team a send-off in the series premiere of Stargate Atlantis, in 2004.

Stargate Universe premieres this fall on SCI FI Channel in the U.S., and Sky One in the U.K. Learn more about the show at GateWorld’s Stargate Universe Launch Center!

  • I wonder if he’ll die and/or ascend in the premier…

  • Awesome news!!! It’ll be great to have Michael Shanks back as “Daniel Jackson” again!!! I hope he has some scenes with Richard Dean Anderson!!! Those two actors, and their characters, are always a joy to watch together!!!

SG-1 Seasons 1 – 8: the original and the best IMHO!!!

  • It’s nice to have cameos from these guys, but shouldn’t the Atlantis crew be represented?

  • Great the ones who started it all will kick of the series, they will most likely be beamed up to the Odessy when the attack begins right after they activate the 9th Chevron

  • I can see why RDA, but why Shanks? O’Neill is the head of the whole shebang. What function does Daniel Jackson serve?

And why would the Atlantis crew be represented?

    Oy…

  • why Daniel? You mean the guy who originally figured out that it takes 6 points in space plus a seventh point of origin to get a lock? The guy who also discovered that an eighth chevron could be used to dial another galaxy and Atlantis?

Gee, yeah, I have no idea why he’d want to be anywhere near the project studying a use for the 9th chevron!!

All snarkiness aside, if you ask me, Daniel is the main character to ALL of stargate and should be included in EVERY new discovery. It was far too long for my tastes before he could get to atlantis, and as the guy who wowed me in “Torment of Tantalus” with the ‘meaning of life stuff’ I was overjoyed every time he got to appear there. More Daniel!!

  • YIPPY !!!!!!! Jack and Daniel back together again at last. Now, they still gots 2 more left to make a full set. Get T’ealc and Samantha Carter. You gotta. Please!!!!!!! They are a team. Carter is my role model (she’s one of the smartest female main characters around). She comes to the rescue with her brains. She’s not a twit like too many other female roles on TV who wear little to no clothes, and have little to no IQ to match.

  • No, I asked why Shanks would be there for the new series, which has the power to stand alone if only folks would let it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy that RDA is going to make an appearance. He is my fave character (and actor… well, besides Harrison Ford. And Morgan Freeman…) of all time. MS is definitely not. Simple likes and dislikes. Like Robert Carylse is not too thrilling a prospect for the new series, but I’m sure glad that Lou Diamond Phillips is going to be there. Simple (and personal) likes and dislikes.

  • So, you’re happy that RDA will be there (as am I), but you feel the need to come to a news thread, and put down people’s happiness that MS will be there? You’re simple likes and dislikes are rather uncharitable.

  • No. I’m just wondering WHY the PTB won’t let the new show stand on its own. They don’t need the old characters. But it’s nice that they’re going to make an appearance. The character of Daniel Jackson just might detract from the introduction of Robert Carlyle’s character. I want to see the show succeed on it own merit. But if he’s going to have just a walk-thru role, then I don’t have to worry… do I?

Put down people’s happiness? Never. I’m really glad that people want to discuss it all in a calm, adult manner. It’ll make the show all the more worth watching.

  • CJ//
just so ya know..RDA is one of “old characters”
i understand he’s ur “favorite” character in the show but dat doesn’t give u excuse not to consider that there are many fans who like to see MS as much as u’d like to see RDA.
Besides, isn’t it soooooooooooooooo obvious why the producers want them to “HELP” kick off the new stargate series??????????????????

  • I understand that. I’m including RDA in my comment about the original characters. One of my fave actors or not…

Oh well. I just wish they had more faith in show to let it stand alone. But it seems I’m the only one who thinks that.

Hey! They just announced the third SG-1 movie, so I happy as a clam.

  • i totally agree with u there kdreamx1 it’s totally obvious why they need the characters from sg1 to HELP start the show off????????
And i’m totally lookin forward 2 the new sg1 movie aswell yeah it’s pretty much the only thing i can’t wait to watch…….
