MGM’s plans for both films have, of course, been subject to economic changes and a downturn in the DVD sales market since the successes of 2008’s Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum.
“Paul and Joe are writing the script [for the Atlantis movie], and it’s just a question of which one we can proceed with first,” Wright told GateWorld. “There are issues — there always are! There have been a few changes in the way the world works right now, especially in terms of DVD sales.”
Cooper added that SCI FI Channel’s involvement in the Atlantis movie further complicates the decision-making, and whether the network will air the movie before its DVD release is currently in question.
“We still want to make a Stargate Atlantis movie, and the sets are still up for that purpose,” Wright told fans on Sunday. “MGM does not leave multimillion dollar sets up and pay the rent on multimillion dollar stages if that is not their ongoing intention. Having said that, when we were originally talking about doing this the world economy was a little bit different, and so the guys who [said] ‘Go ahead and do that’ are [now] saying, ‘Uh, hang on a sec.’
“So that’s where we are right now. Joe and Paul have worked hard on the script, and they want to make it as much as you guys want to see it.”

Wasn’t the SGA movie a guarantee? Meaning… when Sci-Fi (or rather SyFy) opted not two renew SGA for a sixth season didn’t they officially ‘order’ a SGA film – hence guaranteeing the eventual production of the film. Of course i have vary little faith for the quality of that film after the disaster that was ‘Enemy of the Gate’ + the current condition of the city itself. Nice 2 hear about the SG-1 film going forward though!!!!

Well it’s possible a potential second SGA movie would be dependent on the result of the 1st. SGA really seems 2 have been thrown to the side though… i can’t say i’m two disappointed as i would rather more SG-1 movies than SGA movies. A cross-over movie would be nice… that is just dreaming though. As it be though SG-1 is still the more recognizable series name + RDA the biggest star the franchise has so going the route of a RDA central 3rd film doesn’t surprise me.
If the SGA sets are sitting there with dust covers on then yes, I believe that they are still keen to proceed. But if those sets are being redressed and used, the fact that some of the original SGA sets are still standing is kind of meaningless.

Last I heard the script was far from being finished and wasn’t a priority.
I’m happy for the fans of SG1 that they have a third movie, but I’d much rather have at least one Atlantis movie since SG1 has already had two of their own.

I thought that the two SG1 films were first rate; especially the
STARGATE: CONTINUUM movie which was as good as anything yet filmed in the Stargate SG1 series. It was fresh, remarkably original and absolutely riveting – one of the very best films I’ve seen in some time. So, I’m delighted there’s finally some movement for a third film.

I say bring them both on. I loved SG-1 and I loved Atlantis and I’m sure I’ll love Universe. But yes I do hope the execs stay true to what they said about continuing the series via movies. Besides…I kind of miss the way Teal’c says “indeed”…
what ever happened to the promise of atleast 1 sg1 movie a year? by the time this comes out it will be 2 years since we seen sg1…to be honest though, i’m much more interested in the atlantis movie…i’m dying to know what reason they come up with that would lead to them returning atlantis to the Pegasus Galaxy, if they return it at all…now that its there, its safer on earth then in Pegasus where the wraith are always knocking at there door…and if the chair is really done, atlantis’s chair is going to be needed in order to… Read more »
Oh yeah, SGA so wasn’t thrown to the wolves to accomodate their new pet project. No, of course not *rolls eyes* Whenever I hear about SGA lately, it makes me feel like TPTB is talking about the unwanted red-headed step-child.
I thought the SG1 and SGA movies had been green lit ages ago. I must have been wrong, any more news on the SG1 pilot remake, re-edit or remastering what ever they are calling it.
That might be one to check out just so we don’t have to tell our little sister to close her eyes as we fast forward over a certain scene.
I would like to see the new stuff they are shooting for the remastered pilot as well, I hope it fits in and you can’t see the film grain changing every other shot.
What about the Children of the Gods final cut? Did this get shelved due to the economy?
Brad said on stage Sunday at COTG is done and with MGM and FOX. They just need to let the rest of us know when they are planning to put it out there. :)
He also announced that RDA joined him for the audio commentary!
whatever, they can always store the set in boxes. catalog all the pieces, keep a blueprint, digitize a blueprint and give it to all the producers, etc… basically they can go out of their way to not mess up or loose the set pieces. Atlantis’ set is a little more complicated than SG-1s set so reconstructing it from scratch can be time consuming.

Katikatnik…I understand what your saying here..but I often find people who use the phrase about the “unwanted red-head child” are often jealous of people with red hair maybe it is because they feel inferior to us red-heads…
I love SGA..but you cant beat SG1…if there is money issues then hey i would go with SG1 over SGA…as SG1 will sell better. BUT i love SGA to. I think…MGM need to make a BIG NEW SG1 film and im talking a big budget film like the new Star-Trek film…i bet star-trek comes back…in a new way.. I know that if they make a SGA film and it sells not as good as SG1..there is no WAY there will ever be a second sga film. Its like im awaken from centuries of sleep & with great joy to hear that Jack O’neill & SG1 team back as ‘PEACEFUL EXPLORERS FROM EARTH’ exploring the vast star system looking for new alien life. Believe me & im sure the rest of Stargate SG1 fans that without Jack O’neill & SG1 team,stargate franchise wouldnt & couldnt come this far.
Soooo happy that SG1 3rd film is going ahead. Jack O Neill is the best!! And together with Samantha Carter (hopefully we will see some romance!), as well as the team, there is just nothing better! Can’t wait.
Please tell me RDA will loose weight as he promised to, for the Stargate 3 movie. I really miss the body and chilsed face.
Glad to still here Stargate SG1 third movie is still in the works, and do hope all first season cast is in the movie. RDA is my favorite cast member and so excited to see the movie will bring him back in a great large way.Don’t let me down RDA….
