Podcast #54: You guys are missing the ball. You are scared of change. You talk about not trusting the government. That alone is enough reason for the program to be public. After all, the program is completely under the control of government now. And the potential benefits (which you seem to fear) are huge. Freed of the shackles of keeping everything secret, they could unleash the resources of the entire planet to build whatever they want. Let free enterprise (or at least more then small cirle of people you can trust to keep the secret) at the technology and the… Read more »

Absolutely not! Never! I like the idea that the Stargate could be real. Its current, with realistic ppl, with the USAF. I love all that. But if they made it public, it would no longer feel real. It would ruin A LOT of the appeal for me.

That would really ruin Stargate. As it is right now, the Stargate COULD be real. If it went public, it could not.

i wouldn’t mind it going public. i didn’t feel this way years ago (right up to season 10 actually), but i feel it could work now. why? because it would be different, and give the writers a wealth of new ideas to write off of.

Yes it should be made public, it simply getting unrealistic that many personal and scientists and politicans could know about and keep it all a secrete.
Do the writers have the gut to go public, probably not.
But I just want to see Atlantis decloak in front of a huge crowd.

I think it should be revealed! And the perfect way to do it would be right out of The Day The Earth Stood Still… An Al’Kesh appears and lands in the square in Washington, D.C. and while surrounded by the military, Tok’ra and Jaffa representatives appear to speak to the Tauri…

Never really understand the stargate could be real mindset. That thought never crossed my mind and when I hear that other people think that I just shake my head in amazement/ bewilderment. They would get along great with my 12 year old.

I too, would love to see Atlantic decloaking scene.

I can’t belive you people. What we have here is a Sci Fi universe that, for once, makes sense… sort of. It could all be for real. And no (decil76), it’s not about actually believeing it’s for real, but more like having the illusion that it could. Make the Stargate go public, and all is shattered. The arguement that it should go public because it would be impossible to keep it a secret makes sense. But people forget one thing. Do you want every episode to revolve around the media circus surrounding the Stargate Program? Because that’s what you’ll get… Read more »

I know I am super late to this but i had to comment cause it is something i had thought a lot about. A lot of talk has been directed towards if it should go public because of practical real world situations. I however think that the argument should really be made towards does it fit into the story, would it have advanced the stories that were told and the quality of the show. Before Season 9 I would have said that going public would have been unnecessary and would only have added more government sub plots. While the people’s… Read more »

Personally I think it works better as a secret. The best part of the early seasons was it seems like it could be occuring in our universe. As seasons went on, and we ened up with bases in other galaxies, spaceships, colonies, bases, etc.. I got more unrealistic to me that they’d keep such a giant project under wraps. If its a new project and they explored some planets thats one thing.. setting up permanent base in another galaxy.. programs getting to big to keep under wraps. I found that aspect made it less believable. damned if you do, damned… Read more »

What is your favorite episode from Stargate SG-1 Season Eight, and why?

Threads. Unfortunately, I did not have cable TV when Season Eight aired, and the Season 8 DVD set that I purchased did not have the extended version of the episode. So, I have yet to see the extended version of the episode.

Why is Threads my favorite episode?

In addition to the emotional quadrangle of Sam, Jack, Pete Shanahan, and Kerry Johnson, we see the virtual elimination of both Anubis (Earth’s most capable enemy until the Ori) and Oma Desala. We also get to see Daniel Jackson cheat death again.
