Stargate Atlantis‘s David Hewlett has been cast in The Whistleblower, an independent film starring Rachel Weisz, the actor told GateWorld.
The independent film begins shooting next week in Romania, and tells the story of a Nebraska police officer who outed the U.N. for covering up a sex trafficking scandal while serving as a peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia. The movie is based on a true story.
Hewlett (SGA‘s “Rodney McKay”) plays an American U.N. peacekeeper posted in Bosnia, who is suspected of being involved in the scandal.
“The Whistleblower” marks the directorial debut of Larysa Kondracki, who also co-wrote the film. Vanessa Redgrave, David Strathairn and Monica Bellucci also star.
In other news, Hewlett told GateWorld that MGM has just given him the go-ahead to move to the script phase on a project he is writing, the aptly titled “Untitled David Hewlett Project.”
