Tonight marks the first regular episode of Stargate Universe to follow the 3-part series premiere! Here’s an early look at “Darkness.”
Watch out for significant SPOILERS, particularly in Syfy’s full episode description …
From TV Guide:
When the Destiny’s power reserves drop to a critical level, the crew is ordered to use power for essential services only, but the rationing isn’t enough to keep Rush from announcing that all on board will die within days.
From Syfy:
Dr. Nicholas Rush has been working throughout the night to try and determine why the ship’s power reserves are critically low. He reiterates his mounting concerns to Colonel Young, who advises the crew to limit their power consumption to essential services only. Suddenly the lights dim to emergency levels and everything but life support goes dead.
Overwhelmed by fatigue and frustration, Rush declares that all on board will perish within days. But when Destiny’s flight path towards a solar system reveals the existence of three planets, they hope that one of them is habitable.
Meanwhile Eli records individual messages from the crew in case they don’t survive.

I hope SGU is not going to be the same old predicatable…”disaster happens, ‘we’re all going to die’, oh we saved everyone at the last second” formula. That will get old very very quickly.
Real World confessionals, a gratuitous shower scene, and peeping in on a chick with huge boobies! This show is really setting the bar for intelligent science fiction!
Big hope for this show as I really like the actors and characters right off the bat. However, I hope they don’t have to go to the one big bad enemy thing. A few concerns – All this personel is supposed to be highly trained military and scientists who were on another planet and they all get freaked out so quick? The communication stones are going to be a problem because I am wondering why Sam and or Mckay are not switching with the cook and solving the problems on the ship. Or maybe thats how they will get it fixed. I want a good scifi show and I hope they don’t screw this one up as it is great so far.
ANOTHER awesome show. I don’t really understand the people who don’t like the ’shaky’ cam. It doesn’t seem that shaky to me.
Rush’s breakdown just looks like a typical day at the office to me. They HAVE to get rid of Chloe. She is a waste and just not cute enough to justify it.
I still have problems with the body swapping presentation. If Telford’s body shows up as host to Young’s soul (or whatever) I doubt that Young’s wife would believe Young was inhabiting it. And quite doubtful she would kick out Lou Diamond Philips. They need to do something where it is clearer, otherwise it just looks like a flashback. Hopefully these are just kinks that will be worked out in the future. But I can live with it like it is.
Great special effects…which is about the only redeeming feature this show’s got going for it imo. Everybody should take turns using those NEXTEL PTT rocks instead of a video to their loved ones. It’s feeling more and more like BSG. Being on board a broken ship, hurtling aimlessy in space, owned previously by aliens that just got tired of it and shed their human forms…so the old saying is true…”One alien’s garbage is another human’s treasure”..lol!I seriously don’t envision a lot of seasons in this show’s future. This type of plot is better suited as a 2hour movie rather than a drawn out series…a team gets transported to that ship…**** goes terribly wrong…SG1 tries to save them…but oh well…can’t save them all…ship gets blown up by Jack…the end.
@fishfarmr, you’re right. You’d think given the circumstances they said someone back with experience (Sam or McKay, etc.) to lend them a hand. Seems ridiculous that they wouldn’t.
SGU is less exciting than Defying Gravity and we all know what happened there. I found myself walking away from the TV several times as my attention just drifted away. What a shame.
@ arnoldrimmer: No the light wasn’t on in all of the recorded goodbyes. The scientist that got kicked out by Rush did his in total darkness. At least follow the show if you’re going to complain.
And for the rest of you complainers, why are you still watching the show and then complaining about it here??? It’s been four episodes, if you still don’t think it’s good just stop watching. Or at least stop your whining!
I’m pretty sure the pace will pick up as soon as the show characters have been established. Considering some future episodes titles the pace should go up. But I for one like the first four episodes!
@Nikst I bet you liked DS9 … but hated Enterprise am I right?
For DS9 you did not ned a Brain for Enterprise Season 1-2 and 4 you needed on if you knew the Startrek History…
pretty predictable and boring episode..thats 4 underwhelming episodes in a row. And yawn I knew they were gonna be heading for that star *groan*.
Oh well, ill keep watching..its still VERY early days yet, and so far its at least watchable in comparison to Asslantis. I hope it gets better than this dull soap-drama/survival crap though, I want to see planets and well..the fracking universe and interesting and weird aliens.
Where do we get the ratings for last night’s show? I noticed that when a site lists a poll, it usually shows that SGU was rated as an ‘excellent’ but the comments are all negative. Why is that?
This weeks episode was lot better than air part 3. I hope that Elliot hooks up with chloe. I’m slightly tired of the main chick being paired with the soldier dude
This is bloody unbelievable! Another episode with 0 action? I mean people’s actions. Apart from taking showers, collapsing from lack of sleep and using service resources to settle personal problems and waiting to die helplessly and getting all nervous on each other. And this lack of story isn’t even OVER in 45 minutes? Crap. And I mean it. Only a blind can’t see so far that everything that made Stargate a worthy scifi show – heroes, deeds, science stuff – is gone. Crappy crap. Did I already said that? And yes, usually I keep my mouth shut when there is nothing to say but since I let feed myself that crap for the sake of old Stargate and in hopes for something better and not believing it can really by so bad, I have to give a feedback, excuse me! Living up to expectations of something good with spin-offs and continuations of good shows is always a tricky task and they knew what they signed up to. I know they try, but I don’t buy they are really giving themselves to this any more.
@arnoldrimmer: Actually, I haven’t watched DS9 or Enterprise. I have watched most of New Generation and a little bit of the original and I think New Generation is waaay better. So my advice to you is, don’t bet with money, because, well you suck at it. And you talk about brains, but you clearly don’t pay attention during the episode and then complain about something that didn’t happen and now you call me stupid?
its not THAT hard to understand why people are still watching. It’s plain obvious actually.
Here let me explain. ITS ONLY FOUR EPISODES DOWN.
Most shows take a whole season before they find their ground and do anything worthwhile at all, its very VERY rare a show gets it right on its first season. Thats why people continue to watch it – especially if its a spinoff from something else they care about.
Personally I havent liked the first 4 eps, but I see massive potential, and at the least I’m a fan of Robert Carlyle, and its not as unwatchably cheesey as Atlantis. I have hope itll find its ground and develop great stories, but at the moment its still in its baby stages. Is that really that hard to understand ?
I hope SGU is not going to be the same old predicatable…”disaster happens, ‘we’re all going to die’, oh we saved everyone at the last second” formula. That will get old very very quickly.
Ryster | October 16 @ 6:05 pmIt seemed to be okay when McKay did it.
RemyMichael | October 16 @ 8:37 pmThey said that the only system that still worked after the blackout was life support. I guess they just take artificial gravity for granted.
Montross | October 16 @ 10:58 pmReal World confessionals, a gratuitous shower scene, and peeping in on a chick with huge boobies! This show is really setting the bar for intelligent science fiction!
Imitation Tofu | October 17 @ 12:00 amNot watching, shakey cam makes me sick. I’d give two minutes of McKay to the 4 episodes aired so far.
Mentat | October 17 @ 12:10 amBig hope for this show as I really like the actors and characters right off the bat. However, I hope they don’t have to go to the one big bad enemy thing. fishfarmr | October 17 @ 12:14 amLOL!The “huge boobies” seem to be one of the most commented on aspects of the episode!

BRINGBACKSG1 | October 17 @ 3:35 amYep huge boobies was the highlight.
Ah and everyone who recorded there Goodbys must have done them in a other universe/time because the lights in the floors were allways on in the back….
But iam just a SciFi fan…
