Tonight on Syfy don’t miss the next all-new episode of Stargate Universe! “Life” is the ninth episode of the new show and the second-to-last before the mid-season break. The episode promises lots of character exploration and back-story, as more members of the Destiny crew have the chance to use the communication stones to return home to Earth.

Lt. Scott and Camille return to Earth via the communication stones to spend time with those they left behind. On the Destiny, the crew explores new sections of the ship, which yields the discovery of a promising Ancient device.

Using the communications stones, Lt. Scott and Camile Wray use their time back on earth to visit those they’ve left behind. Camile returns home to spend time with her partner, trying her best to make the strange circumstance normal. Meanwhile, Lt. Scott learns a past relationship might not have ended as he thought.
Aboard Destiny, Dr. Rush supervises the exploration of new areas of the ship. Looking for resources to make their everyday lives easier, the crew stumbles upon a piece of Ancient technology that carries the promise of a way home. While somewhat familiar with the find, Dr. Rush can’t guarantee the safety of using it, bringing him and Col. Young to a standoff on what to do.

I agree, the preview only showed one article of interest to me: Young killing Telford. But since I know that these types of shows thrive on playground drama – Telford won’t be getting killed at all. I’d imagine that flare up is the last scene and it lasts ten seconds at most.
The majority of the episode will focus on Lt. Scott’s ex-girlfriend being pregnant or some such nonsense – drama means baby-mama-drama according to modern tv tropes – and we will get a small introduction to Wray’s love life – not enough to realize she is a functional person as well as a lesbian but enough to call her THE lesbian from here on out.
The A story about a piece of ancient technology will be explained from off screen so as not to confuse the fact that this show is only occasionally science fiction… you know, kinda like the rebranded SciFi network.
I’ll wrap up this comment by saying I don’t ‘believe’ a word of what I just wrote and am looking forward to enjoying getting to know our castaways a little better!
I don’t think that this episode will be better than ‘Time’, but it’s always nice to know some backstory of the characters. That’s something that SGA lacked in their first season.
Oh crap. I was actually getting into and now another episode with the stones. I actually enjoyed the character development in “Time”, but not the rest of the epis when it is way too in your face. I am so disappointed. Like was said on the podcast, I was hoping “Time” was the new rule, not the exception. :(
Someone please throw those damn stones into space. They are just plain stupid. Yep, the stones can communicate with Earth over billions and billion of light years but nothing else can. No wonder “Sponge Bob” has better ratings.

SGU is better than probably sG-1 and SGA in many areas – but I’d sum it up to be simply better quality work.
In SGA and SG-1 the camera work was always sloppy. They would have an image of atlantis from the outside, and then go straight into the set of the gateroom. You get tired of that for a few seasons.
And the “action” in SG-1 and SGA had a lot to be desired as well. There were a few good battles, but most of them were not that great. If you’re watching Stargate just for the special effects then… well I feel sorry for you.
The stones put in character development people! You can’t be watching SGU just for some badly choreographed action scenes, average space battles right?
The format of SGU (a continuum of a show) I think is better than SGA/SG-1 (single episodes with little to no connection to the next). It doesn’t have the same repeated “going to medieval planet, helps out planet, goes home” story line.
I think the main harangue about the communication stones is that they have been retconned to body swap as opposed to projecting which does indeed create character development but leaves the story dangerously dependent on it FOR character revelation and story development. Also the infinite distance communication is hard to believe given the minimal power requirements of the device.
In other words, the gripe about the stones is not about the window into characters lives so much as it is just as tired as shifting from Atlantis EXT to Gateroom INT was. Though I disagree about the sloppy camera complaint, assuming it to be objectively true then the stones are sloppy writing.
Wanna strand people in the wrong place? Drop ‘em there for three years before someone makes it home – Lost did very well without constant communication with civilization.
Why did they bother with the whole “lost in space” routine if everyone can pop home whenever they like!!. I thought this show wasn’t going to have any quick fixs. I would call these stupid stones the biggest quick fix of the entire franchise. So more high school emotional drama and getting to see who Scott is sleeping with this week. This isn’t even recognizable as Stargate anymore.
I guess some people think that gay and lesbian folk never leave the house – or maybe, thinking about that hits too … whatever.
So far I’ve loved every episode – it’s the first time since SG1 or LOSt that I’ve actually looked forward to see what might be next.

We’re nearly half way through the series and they’ve spent more time talking about their feelings and crying back to Earth than they have exploring the ship or going through Star Gates. I agree, someone needs to toss those damned stone into space and lets get on with human development aboard the ship and do some real exploring. I love this show but its supposed to be “StarGate” and not “Magic Stones and Feelings Club”. I’m into SG for the tech and science, not the character development and its starting to grate.
When all of the babies start arriving, they probably have a plot twist planned. Maybe they will have one or more alien spirit entities possess one or more of the babies. Sooo, we will have newborn babies floating around the air with strange looking eyes (say a constant red glow) and holding the crew hostage. And to make the situation more dramatic, these entities will use the stones and connect with the new babies on Earth. Lots of potential here. This may be when the producers plan to have the people of Earth become aware of the Stargate program, after witnessing these demonic babies wiping out entire cities and an explanation being necessary. Curious path the show seems to be taking.

A total waste of what little money and little time was used to create this episode. Another flop. The first season is nearly half over and basically nothing has happened of any interest. SGU is not exploring the universe – they are too busy swapping bodies and exploring body parts. They should toss the stones out with the sewage. What little emotion is present is soooo obviously forced and fake. There is no interpersonal relationships of any meaning between any of the characters. The show is boring and lifeless.
