Firesky and Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, the studio behind the financially troubled but still-in-production MMO role-playing game Stargate Worlds, is working on a second video game title, they announced today. Stargate Resistance is an online, third-person shooter currently in the final stages of development.
The game’s official Web site went live today at StargateResistance.com. The game will be released in the first quarter of 2010, according to the site.
Resistance will let players take on the role of Stargate Command or the Goa’uld System Lords, with the fate of the galaxy in the balance. There are six character classes: Soldiers, Commandos, and Scientists on the S.G.C. side, and Goa’uld, Jaffa, and Ashrak assassins on the side of the System Lords. Each class will come with its own unique blend of weapons, items, and weaknesses.
Players will be able to work with teammates in three multiplayer modes (up to 16 players at once): “Team Death Match,” “Capture the Tech,” and “Domination.” Additional game modes are planned for release shortly after the game’s launch.
The game will be available for the PC only, and is powered by the Unreal 3 engine. It will be open to future expansion packs.
Stargate Resistance is “currently in the polishing stage,” according to the site.

Weapons in the game include the Goa'uld hand device.
“Resistance brings to our fans the kind of gameplay SGW never planned to deliver,” said Chris Klug, the game’s creative consultant and the creative director for Stargate Worlds. “Resistance delivers the combat, weapons and tactics seen so often on the show that many of you have been asking for. I know this game will excite fans who have longed to go toe-to-toe with a Jaffa as well as those who always wanted to dominate the galaxy in ways the MMO could only hint at.”
In the full letter, Klug also speaks to the difficult last year faced by the studio, its decision to remain silent, and its recognition that it needs to rebuild its relationship with fans.
“As well as building this new exciting product, paramount to Firesky’s long-term future is restoring your confidence and trust in us,” he said.

Aaron Meehan | December 8 @ 9:31 pmPC only…… Disappointing.
SG-17 | December 8 @ 9:51 pmI’m rapidly losing hope for a Stargate console game. It wouldn’t even be that hard, just scale down the Mass Effect or Oblivion engines and you’ve got gold. In fact, every time I play those games, I imagine how amazing it would be if set in the Stargate Universe. I’ll even take an XBL shooter, I don’t care. I just want a zat in my hand and a wraith to shoot with it.
frellwit | December 8 @ 9:58 pmIm still holding out hope for a console game. Hopefully if Resistance and Worlds are a success it may push them to developing one. Still this sounds awesome and I will definitely be signing up to play.
stuknot | December 8 @ 10:16 pmYAY. A game that’s not a stupid MMORPG. Isn’t that nice :)
Anubis10545 | December 8 @ 10:34 pmId be happy just to have a proper game related to Stargate tbh.
Tanith | December 8 @ 10:40 pmIs this vaporware, too? I mean, how long has Worlds been in development but not (seemingly) getting anywhere?
jeffala | December 8 @ 10:58 pmI’d love to see a Stargate game, but I’m not going to play an MMO or console game. In fact when Shelter comes out I’m going to make my own Stargate mods for it.
Gaeth | December 8 @ 10:59 pmYESSS!!!!!!!!!! i cant wait
Trak90 | December 8 @ 11:27 pmI think the problem is this, Stargate SG-1: Alliance was a standard game and despite problems between the publisher & developer is the type of game that needs to be developed.
Stargate Worlds is an MMO, that’s not cheap. That is hugely more costly. It just wasn’t the right move.
Stargate Resistance? No co-op? Sorry, but this just seems like a way to get some money for technology created during the production of Stargate Worlds. While not a bad idea, it doesn’t really help with it being competitive modes and not adventure campaigns.
I really, really, really want a Stargate game. I’ve been waiting for one since the N64. I pretended the portals in Turok were Stargates. Gosh, why is it so hard to create a good stargate game?
Mrja84 | December 8 @ 11:46 pmInteresting move, makes sense, they need to get some sort of return on the money sunk into the studio.
canonfodder | December 8 @ 11:57 pmSounds a bit like Star Wars: Battlefront, hopefully it be as good as that was.
I really am getting over the whole MMO games, I want a good solid storyline that makes me feel like I am actively changing the world around me. MMo’s just don’t do that, (aside from the occasional ‘shard’ or whatever you want to call it)
This is a step in the right direction.
Fact: Gaming PCs are light years ahead of a consoule and always will be.
Xenomorph | December 9 @ 12:05 amFact: I’m excited for this game! But also wants Stargate Worlds!!
Sounds interesting, but come on … there are a LOT of Mac users here.
seawhippet | December 9 @ 12:28 amUntil I’m actually pulling out my credit card to buy this, I won’t believe it. By this point I’m too jaded to believe any Stargate game will ever be released.
BeckyK | December 9 @ 12:43 amGlad they made this. I would never have bought SGW as it’s a MMORPG… ugh. But, this is nice, isn’t it :) Highly looking forward to it. Although a 1st-person pov would be nice…
Anubis10545 | December 9 @ 1:34 amPC only = lame.
BurnZ | December 9 @ 3:24 amGood news for us PC-only users. :D
The Tenth Doctor | December 9 @ 3:44 amFinally a Star Gate game that has some potential. FPSs FTW, and seriously what kind of ##### decided that they should release an MMO as their first game?
Col. Newman | December 9 @ 6:46 amPC gaming ROCKS!!!!!!!! i dont know what you guys are talking about. consoles are so backwards, especially considering how quickly technology changes over the years. this wouldve been way more awesome if only it were FPS, which fits PC much better. a COD MW2 style Stargate or something wouldve been ace.
Duneknight | December 9 @ 7:44 amthis game looks rushed though and graphics look really bad, looks like a N64 game to me, like goldeneye in fact. i bet you can play it on any laptop. my advise to the developers, game needs to be more flasher and characters shouldnt look like puppets. but at least we get something. im desperate. what i fear is that, after getting it, no one would show in the lobby or whatever server thing, this happens with not so popular games after awhile. you wont have anyone to play with.
Duneknight | December 9 @ 7:54 amAn online third person shooter is just an mmo with everything that I find interesting sucked out. All combat, no story just isn’t that fun, no matter how many cool weapons they give you.
I agree with the poster above that they needed to make some money with what they had developed and went with this. It will probably please the more combat oriented people, but for those who want a good story, not so much. I prefer that combat, however important, be a means to an end, not the entire game.
Now, if they’d made a first or third person action RPG that could be played online or off, then I’d be excited.
amconway | December 9 @ 12:34 pmWhoop! Looking forward to this! Definitely a must-buy for me!
