The DVD edition runs for $49.98 U.S. before retailer discounts (as of our time of publishing, Amazon.com has it for $27.99). If you want SGU on Blu-ray, look for a suggested sticker price of $69.98 (currently just $38.99 at Amazon). Pick it up at Amazon and you’ll help to support GateWorld with your purchase.
Stargate Universe stars Robert Carlyle as Dr. Nicholas Rush, a brilliant scientist with a hidden agenda who is responsible for trapping more than 80 people on board the Destiny — a previously unmanned Ancient vessel in the far reaches of the universe. Believed to be millions of years old, Destiny is on an automated course from one galaxy to another, following other ships sent ahead to seed those galaxies with Stargates.
Also starring is Louis Ferriera, David Blue, Brian J. Smith, Ming-Na, Alaina Huffman, Jamil Walker Smith, Elyse Levesque, and Lou Diamond Phillips.
The “Season 1.5″ DVD release is expected shortly after the season finale in June. There is no word on whether MGM and Fox will also release a single, complete season set.
In the United Kingdom, however, the studio is releasing a full season in July, rather than this mid-season release of the first half. Look for it on July 5, and pre-order it now
for £42.98 (subject to change).
The second half of Season One premieres with “Space” on Friday, April 2! Learn more about the back half of the season — which producers promise will meet many of fans’ expectations — in GateWorld’s Season One episode guide.

And why do you guys neglect to report the region 4 DVD release of the SGU extended pilot that came out a few days ago here in Australia?
darkglasses | February 9 @ 5:32 pm@darkglasses
Probably for the same reason that they’re not reporting that TV6 Sweden has bought the rights to air SGU (on March 5th).
EvilSpaceAlien | February 9 @ 5:54 pmIt’s just not big news in their eyes.
Or it could be that they know nothing about it.
Pick your favorite.
“In the United Kingdom, however, the studio is releasing a full season in July, rather than this mid-season release of the first half. Look for it on July 5″
Completely fine with me, don’t see the point in half season boxsets tbh.
Tanith | February 9 @ 5:59 pm@Tanith
The thing is, we don’t know if there’s gonna be a blu-ray version of the full season release. I want those damn bonus features!
EvilSpaceAlien | February 9 @ 6:07 pmSGU Season 1.0? No thank you!
Half a season of SGU for a SRP of $50? Who’s the marketing genius who thought of this?! Even at $30 for half the season it is too much!
I’m a huge SG fan, but I won’t buy this. It is just too much money for too little.
I should be able to buy the entire season for this much money. Besides… you know the price will go down eventually or they’ll release a complete season set for the same amount…
How many of us bought the GIANT brick-sized SG-1 season sets for $50 when they came out; only to see them re-released in the slim cases and for much less money. (I see them in Wal-Mart for $15.)
Sorry if it sounds like it is all about the money (I think the lousy economy is rubbing off on me.) – it isn’t. I don’t like the fact that it is only half the season. I could have waited for the rest of season one to air for a complete set! All the other seasons of SG-1 and Atlantis are complete seasons – why not SGU?
I’d love to see the extended Air, but I’ll have to pass.
66skylark | February 9 @ 6:42 pm@EvilSpaceAlien COOL – thanks thanks for this update. We here in Pegasus galaxy finally gets SGU! Yaj! (TV6 keeps running SG1 and SGA so that’s great). And btw Darren, of course you should be interested in Pegasus galaxy :D
daxmaryrussel | February 9 @ 7:05 pmI always like the commentaries and special features but $50 is just a little too much for this one…
wellslogan | February 9 @ 9:11 pm“learn more about the back half of the season — which producers promise will meet many of fans’ expectations”. Lets certainty hope so. It would be a shame for the stargate to never be activated again because of this one season disaster.
eddjr | February 9 @ 9:34 pm@66skylark- There was a dual pack of season one, I think it is, and season something of another show for under $15 at my local wal-mart. I always wait to buy the complete seasons because the prices always drop dramatically.
eddjr | February 9 @ 9:38 pmHalf a season for sale?
Pass.
BurnZ | February 9 @ 10:46 pmI am not paying 10% more for half a season that I show little interest. Like one of the podcast says. They didn’t buy season 7 of SG1 because they wanted to voice that they didn’t like that season, I guess its my turn to voice mine
Emily | February 9 @ 10:59 pmThis is great! In no time at all both the DVD and Blu-ray version will be in the $10 discount bin. Can’t wait! :)
Jack_Bauer | February 9 @ 11:07 pmWal-mart sold it a day early here in Springfield, Missouri. Woo! :-)
Ganthet Jr. | February 9 @ 11:35 pmWent to Wal-Mart to Buy it, and Saw it was $34.95!? BULL! THis will be the FIRST DVD set i refuse to buy in the Stargate Franchise I’ll HOPE they release a complete Season 1 and if they don’t then I guess i’ll never Buy it! GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR A$s MGM! Noones going to fall for this!
gatetrek | February 10 @ 12:58 amLOL. I own the boxsets of SG-1 and SGA, as well as the movie DVDs for every SG-1 movie and the Original. But Stargate Universe will NEVER grace the Stargate section in my library. I wouldnt take it even if it were free. Not into soap operas.
Overmind One | February 10 @ 4:43 amI’d rather pay twice the price for just ONE SG-1 or SGA movie instead of this misery of a show…
Gaia | February 10 @ 4:47 amI’ve watched both SG-1 movies and the entire boxsets at least half a dozen times and will carry on doing so cos I’ll never get fed up of it but SGU I just can’t get into no matter how I try. Assuming theyre any good I’ll be keeping the 2 episodes with Michael Shanks (Human and Subversion) but it’ll only be on the harddrive of my Vbox NOT on dvd
The Dragon | February 10 @ 6:29 amRemind you of the dvd release of Battlestar Galactica anyone? season 4.1 realised and then the 2nd half later, least there was a year between them, not 6 months like SGU will be, and Battlestar was interesting, will not be buying this.
Agito | February 10 @ 9:30 amProbably one of those strange cases where the extras are better than the movie. In any case I won’t be paying that kind of money for season 0.5 to catch up on something I can’t watch. I’d give it a go if I had an TV with image stabilization. I bet they don’t shake and zoom the camera when fearless leader is talking in the extras.
Mentat | February 10 @ 11:30 amI’m spending my money on the complete battlestar galactica series on blu ray instead. Why settle for a knock off?
Imitation Tofu | February 10 @ 2:54 pmI’m sorry, but by ALL definitions 1.0 is the same as 1. That makes this product a case of false advertising and shouldn’t be allowed. This is not season 1, it’s half of it. If they’re gonna go with the stupid numerical naming, then by all rights it should be 0.5 not 1.0.
However any regular marketing person with half a brain would have called it SGU Season 1 – Part 1 instead.
Naming issues aside, half seasons are a thinly cloaked way of getting more money from you and any sensible consumer should avoid them like the plague. Most of the time the price of both halves is much more than the price of the whole season.
Buyer beware.
Ryster | February 10 @ 5:32 pmI think we should still buy these releases and show we are still interested in the franchise.
Perhaps, that will lead them to be more willing to fund the movies by showing that we still believe in the DVD format.
Maybe not? but why not try it?
IF they see these sets even still sell that might convince them to put the movies into higher regard and quicker production.
That’s just my thoughts.
Matt | February 11 @ 12:32 amWhen the BR entire season set is $30 in the bargain bin, I’ll get it -maybe. In today’s Economy, I don’t know how the studio can ask this outrageous price of us. I’m enjoying watching SG-1 and Atlantis on DVD and the movies on BR too much to care about watching Stargate Galactica (err, Universe) over again… :(
gkarris | February 11 @ 12:45 amSGU is simply not good enough to warrant my money. Still they have tried to fill a half series dvd with loads of cheap extras. Very sad.
robinl59 | February 11 @ 5:25 amSGU at this point has no replay value to me so there is no way I would shell out $69.95 for the Blu-Ray, really I wouldn’t pay $29.95 for it either. The second half of season one will really have to grab my attention, and season 2 will have to blow me away before I think about buying SGU on Blu-Ray or DVD. I also own all the SG-1 & SGA TV episodes & movies on DVD.
