Stargate Universe‘s favorite, no-nonsense Air Force Colonel is headed to A&E for a new series pilot. Lou Diamond Phillips has been cast in Longmire, alongside a few other sci-fi and fantasy genre vets.
Based on the 6-book Walt Longmire Mystery series of novels by Craig Johnson, the show stars Robert Taylor (The Matrix) as the title character, described as “a charismatic, dry-witted Wyoming sheriff” who has buried the pain of being widowed behind his rough exterior.
Phillips (SGU‘s Colonel David Telford) will play Longmire’s best friend, Henry Standing Bear.
Also starring is Smallville‘s Cassidy Freeman as as Longmire’s daughter, Bailey Chase (Saving Grace) as a deputy — and just announced, Battlestar Galactica‘s Katee Sackhoff as Vic, another of Longmire’s deputies who was recently hired after working the homicide beat in Philadelphia.
The pilot script was originally shopped to TNT, and greenlit by A&E last December.

Cassidy Freeman & Katee Sackhoff…definitely gonna check this one out!
Lou Diamond Phillips was one of many great reasons to watch SGU! Fantastic actor! I’m gonna miss SGU but keep my fingers crossed for Brad Wright to find a way to keep the story going that will hopefully also include a return for LDP as Colonel David Telford!
LDP was great in SGU. Will watch Longmire for sure!
