Gauntlet (220) - Suits

The Stand. Pursued across the galaxy by drone ships programmed to hunt and destroy technology, Destiny and her crew are out of options. Blocked at every turn, Colonel Young and his people must stop running … and stand up and fight.

After two seasons, 40 episodes, and an ambitious storyline, Stargate Universe comes to its end tonight. It wasn’t the end that the writers intended — SGU will end on a bittersweet cliffhanger, from all reports. There will be no third season, no wrap-up movie or mini-series, no webisodes or other last-minute reprieve. But it’s been one hell of a ride.

“Gauntlet” airs tonight at 9 p.m. (8 Central) on Syfy Channel! Don’t miss this important final installment not just of this series, but of modern-day Stargate as we know it. We believe with great certainty that the franchise will be back down the road. But for now, this is the final hour for Stargate fans to enjoy.

After you’ve watched the last episode, you have three things still to do!

  • Head over to GateWorld Forum to discuss “Gauntlet” with thousands of other Stargate fans! Tell us what you thought of the episode, the questions it left you with, and how fitting an end you think it was to this terrific season.

  • I dont know if i am more excited or depressed about this episode. Cant wait to see it but it is the end…

  • I hate cliffhangers to begin with. Knowing that this one may never be resolved just makes it so much worse.

  • What a great show! Now im waiting for comics…
    F*** SyFy and it’s wrestiling.

  • Everytime I see a new post by Darren I get a little worked up hoping that something amazing has happened and it’s been revived.. wishful thinking far too much!

I’ve decided not to watch it, I’m treating Epilogue as my finale.. I think SGU deserves that ending IMO.. If I watched it i’d be too depressed and angry!

What are you guys doing? watching or holding off?

  • For me, Stargate Universe should have been a show about taelons and Jaridians, Daleks, and Kree, Galactus, and Doomsday, the yellow Lantern corps with all their murderous intent, the alien from the western themed outer limit episode where the alien bestowed god like powers onto a bunch of killers to verify it’s race was safe from man because man would destroy itself. The Pandorica and End of Time mixed with a little bit of V-ger, and Q Continuum war, sprinkled with Pandorum and Event Horizon. Garnished with the Saga of the Seven Suns, The Dune trilogy and graciously baptized in the forever Ocean of Solaris. The crew should have met the WhyFore and the Neverwere and the would be kings, the celestial conflagration, off shoots of the altera, the Ori or the Goa’uld. Ascended Ameobas and living nebulae. But instead, we got what we did, and though they were good stories (Season 2), they could have been brilliant. SALUTE my conflicted friend, perhaps, in time, another from your house of Usher, will dare to be bold, and infinitely more inspiring. Though if you wanna blame some one, Blame SuckFu, it was their silly attempt to pit an off season series, against a prime time line up. They intentionally had the widest gap ever between two seasons, almost intentionally sabotaging the show. It was them who decided to wait, until, the audience, who was semi hot, had become luke warm, after being made to wait months and months. Forget you.

  • I’m definitely watching. There is no way I couldn’t watch. Although I.ll be sad and no doubt frustrated when the credits roll, I still have to see the last episode. I would love it if Brad Wright releases something that finishes the story or failing that at least tell us where they were planning to go with it. Sigh…

  • If Brad released something to finalise it then i’d watch Gauntlet for sure :)

  • I just hope so much that destiny goes way, way far in the end of the universe, with the superpower it got in the blue giant!

  • It’s sad to see SGU go and I think MGM and SyFy are beginning to see the err of their ways. Ratings are up, the show is much better than when it began, and people are coming around to SGU.

They’ve doomed Warehouse 13 and Sanctuary to Monday nights and left the marginally ok Colorado Kid based show on Friday. No more SyFy for me.

  • I’m hoping books will be written, preferably by the writers of the show, which finish off the story lines. Where they wanted to go with the advanced aliens that built a solar system, where they planned to go with the blue aliens, the Langarans, and the series finale they claimed to have in mind. I understand movies and webisodes take some doing and spending, but it’d be nice to have some books and I think that’s totally doable.

I will definitely be watching Gauntlet tonight. I’m sad the show is coming to an end, but it’s just a tv show. By no means does it define my life.

  • Ratings are up? From the reports on Gateworld I thought they were about the same.

As for Warehouse 13 and Sanctuary, its been renewed for a fourth season already so we don’t have to worry for the time being. Anytime you change a shows time slot you’ll initially get lower viewers, look at Fringe…I’m sure as more people find the new slot by next season the numbers will be back to normal.

And as for Warehouse 13 and Eureka, both shows air during the summer months when there’s few new scripted series on, so with people looking for new shows to watch and their already established audience (which is larger than SGU’s) I bet it’ll be okay. SyFy has already greenlit new Christmas episodes for both series.

If you ask me, SyFy should have stuck to airing scripted dramas in summer/winter. During those months you normally don’t have many scripted shows airing so you’ll probably get higher numbers as people look for new stuff to watch. They could still air their cheaper, less-risky reality series during the fall.

That being said…drones, REALLY?? THIS is our season finale? Even as a regular season finale I’m not excited about this story. This season has been GREAT so far but the drones are starting to get to be an annoying plot device. Maybe the episode will be better than I fear it will be, but if it isn’t, then may be its time for the show to go. Either way, I’ll be watching and hoping for a great finale.

Also, STOP CALLING IT A SERIES FINALE! A series finale finishes off any lingering major series-long plot lines. This does not. This is a SEASON FINALE that just happens to be a FINAL EPISODE. Why is it hard for everybody to make that distinction?

  • I agree about drones being freaking annoying. They aren’t even intelligent like cylons, they’re just programmed machines and they turn out to be our great enemy.I love this show and I haven’t seen the finale,so I maybe wrong, but from what I have seen and heard the finale might be the worst part of this amazing season! We know Destiny’s mission,we know things about Ancients we haven’t known before and they choose to finish it with this?.,most definitely knowing that there was at least a strong possibillity of their show being canned!? That’s simply unbeliavable!Did they really expect this to hook us on for the remainder of the series, especially with such long breaks? And I’m talking about showrunners here, not SyFy!
I fully expect some Ancient tech, creature, living being, info blast to emerge in this episode, otherwise we can kiss Stargate franchise goodbye for good and forever. And in that case all that talk about franchise just sleeping, hybernating for a while, but surely coming back is just a childs fairy tale, common!!
They really intend to keep the franchise alive with drones and smurfs as our main adversaries?
If it wasn’t sad,it’d be incredibly funny!
    And I repeat,there’s still a chance that I’m wrong,cause I haven’t seen the finale..I surely hope to God so!

  • I’m depressed – have been all day and will probably be increasingly so up until 9 o’clock and i’m sure i won’t soon be cheerful again afterwards. I flipped on the SyFy marathon today but even with the quality of the episodes being so good it’s just furthering my displeasure that such a great series (and franchise) is being taken from us…

  • Back in 2005, it really felt crappy when “Enterprise” went off the air. Thankfully, at the time I had something else to get hooked on (SG-1/SGA back then).

Now it’s 2011, and after SGU goes off the air, i’ll have neither Trek or Gate to look forward to. :(

  • @Coremae We will all meet at the Restaurant At The End Of The Stargate Universe, drink Pan-Galactic Gargle-Blasters and watch the end come. So long, and thanks for all the fish!

  • they have doomed all the good shows for what? junk i say. i will really miss SGU it was getting so good. why are they ending it on a cliff hanger if they dont plan to bring it back. and what are they doing about the conventions are they going to stop also, what about this sight is it going bye bye also. does anyone know the answer? i just want to say I LOVE SGU and all of them actually. MGM and SCIFI suck

  • Now when I first started watching Stargate Universe, I was a little dissappointed. First off, the new camera “style” and angles really threw me off, but I decided to keep watching. I almost left after a few episodes simply because the characters were not interesting and all they seemed to do was whine whine whine. However, as the season continued on and into season 2, I really got hooked. I loved the other two series, and now I especially am starting to love this series, and BAM! they want to take it away? So excited for the episode…but it’s bittersweet. There just seems like there is too much to do, I can’t believe they can just end it.

  • Why is it that people are directing all the blame at syfy? IF THE SHOW WAS GOOD IT WOULD PULL GOOD NUMBERS. Make the writers accountable they had more than enough chances to change their plot, but no they wanted to get new viewers. Not to mention the bitter taste they left in fans mouths with their arrogant replies to things. Hold the right people accountable not the wrong ones.

  • So, Sky are showing it in June you say ? Fun wait ahead. What have we to remedy the situation ? Doctor Who ? yeah sure, awesome. More Futurama ? also good. Game of Thrones is going well. Torchwood, it’ll be good if they just make slightly more cheery than Children of Earth, man that was bleak. Fringe will be back, so yeay there. Supernatural, nah, there’s a show that had a great opportunity to leave gracefully and didn’t. Walking Dead, almost forgot about that ! I mean to get into Sanctuary now, only seen bits and pieces.

Its all well and good, but they’re no Stargate Universe. Epilogue may have been a nice ending we all wanted but it is not the end we have. We all have to watch Gauntlet tonight. Let Stargate go out the way it should.
Not with a whimper but with a BANG !

  • @Pioneering
I’ll be there good friend—have they Romulan Ale? I’ve tried to mix Gin and Vodka with Barcardi Hurricane to replicate Romulan ale; let’s say, it was infinitely better in my head, than in my belly.

  • And to quote Brad Wright BW: No. You guys are actually pretty predictable (take no offense, most fan groups are). Unfortunately, you represent a very small portion of the actual viewing audience we need for financial success.

  • It’s not a “real” spoiler, how could it be?.. but Molozzi said something about a final post “After” the Finale had ended. Reminded me {tongue in cheek} of Bowman’s last line in 2010 about .. “there may be a message.. After.. if all goes well” now don’t get your hopes up, its not an “undo” we don’t all wake up tomorrow and SGU was never cancelled.. it was.. but I think he plans to discuss what would have happened.. to tie up loose ends? Bring it to some sort of resolution in some peoples mind.

Personally I think that would be awesome. I was never the greatest dan of the show.. it revealed the arc just too slow.. but I’m really going to be eager to see what they had thought up to that point.. where they were going.. what it was all about. In someways.. it can’t be a let down.. it can only be an awesome blog post. A few authors did this in the past, JMS for Crusade.. and it was stellar… so now I can look forward to whatever comes.. and hopefully take a peak behnd the curtain after..

  • @Eagalis
You said if the show was good it would pull good numbers. I have two problems with that comment. First of all, the show IS very good. Second, there are many horrible shows on tv right now that pull millions of viewers. Numbers doesn’t make the show good. Most americans are happy to watch shows like cupcake wars or jersey shore (mindless garbage if u ask me). Stargate fans want quality, intelligent sci fi, and thats what we’ve got for 17 seasons. Im really sad that the show got cancelled. I’m sure SG will be back someday. At least we have hundreds of SG episodes to watch until it does. Just trying to stay positive haha

  • I recently decided to watch Atlantis through again, just finished that in time for the finale of SGU, i’m now annoyed about the fact that both are cancelled, I would have loved to see more of both of them it is SUCH a shame I’m really going to miss having a new SG series to watch :(

  • Well, at least the cliffhanger at the end opened it up. We need to pull together and do a farscape type campaign. Imagine if three years later, they arrive at the destination… That could be a mini series.

  • Did anyone else notice towards the last 15 minutes that it said Season finale ?? maybe I watch too much British programming but yah thats what I saw .. on another note I just started warming up to the show being a hardcore sg1 fan! Kinda sad to see it go out this way

  • Well I just watched the last episode of SGU and was saddened the end came. I hope the people at SyFy get the message Pro-Wrestling has no room on a channel dedicated to science fiction and horror programming. I am confident the SyFy channel will observe fan opinions and look at the direction this channel is going. I also would like fans of the series and the franchise (Stargate) to voice their opinions and give positive and constructive feedback to these people at the SyFy channel or choose to elect another outlet for science fiction programming such as Stargate Universe to be put on another channel such as the MGM channel which is a HD channel and is available through most HD carriers. I simply state this as an opinion and would like fans of science fiction programming, books and movies be respectful in their comments and feedback. Remember, most sci-fi fans are usually learned and well spoken and we have great integrity of thought and attitude. In conclusion, please allow the sorrow of this end to pass and regroup and push for continued progress for the Stargate Franchises’ survival, thank you for reading.

  • I am sad to see Stargate, as a multi-series franchise, go. It is something I grew up watching with my father, who got me into Sci-fi, and something that has always reminded me of him. The season finale for SGU was simply amazing, I love how Eli seems to be coming into himself and am upset that we will not be able to see his triumphant success and well as the return of what might be the best, most dramatic Stargate series to date. The worst part is it got even better as the second season went on and the decision to cancel it happened before any of these amazing episodes were even aired. Anyway, amazing episode and here’s hoping that in the near future at least a movie gets re-planned so we can see what happens wit everyone

  • If I was mistaken and It said series finale I see where my brain took it the wrong way lol but yah im 95% positive It said season finale either way Syfy Should be ashamed of itself warehouse 13 meh eureka already lost my interest whats left?

  • That ending to SGU was amazing. Though i’m still soo sad to see it go.

  • BRAVO!!! I feel this finale was the best possible ending for the series given the reality. In fact, it gives the series a 3 year window for a future return! We know the cast and producers have moved on, but who knows what will be possible in 3 years. I feel 100% satisfied with the way the crew came together in the end. I say, this finale has paved the way for a future return! Bravo!!!!! No looking back. Let’s look forward now. SGU cast & everyone involved, Bravo!! What a stunning performance!

  • what i dont know,i mean it was a good episode but it just left it like that wat the hell we soppose 2 do? imagain wat could happen. dont get me wrong it dose leave it were in the future it can come back but its a if…i love stargate really didnt want it 2 end…:-/

  • I agree, alpsirus …. I believe it’s been the best Stargate EVER … it technically operates in real time with our reality, so in 3 years with the lifespan of modern television, we could see a great majority of the actors be yet again available for another spin-off, mini-series or feature film. In other sci-fi shows, we know stasis pods can fail over time … which would mean some cast may not eventually return. Eli could spend the 3 years and find another stasis pod section, or a holodeck to bide his time. He could use the stones and bring in an expert on board or Destiny could find another seed ship. I agree it’s very sad to know it’s going to be a long time to wait … we don’t have a choice :-( But in the mean time, there’s many things to preoccupy your time. It would be great to hear feedback from the cast … how do they feel? Honestly?

  • Well, they managed to write an ending that was satisfying in light of the almost impending at the time of writing cancellation with some hope for the future. But, in all honesty, I’m kind of glad the show’s done. I had fun but we were getting in to lame territory with the blinding and the ALS and it felt very cheap. As well, I have to point out… this plot was largely an episode of Voyager… again.

  • I am saddened that the series ended the way it did. Yes, there is a window for a return, however I am of the opinion the show was cancelled for professional wrestling. I am confident the network putting responsible for the Stargate Franchise will make the correct decision and keep the franchise alive and keep science fiction alive as a whole. Please, keep the dream alive, allow the imagination to work. Imagination is the driving force behind innovation.

  • I loved the “last” show…and the series. Eli is the man. Each show (SG1, SGA and SGU) had its own strengths + faults, and what serial program doesn’t? You can’t please all the people all the time. That being said, a big F-U to wrestle-rama and SciFi brass. Do people really watch that crap? Seriously…SciFi bumped a great “Sci-Friday” lineup for a bunch of roided-out meatheads that run around and grab each others crotch? You are the SciFi channel! I heard the WWE ratings are sucking anyway, so nice choice there pencil pushers. Until my show returns, I’ll be watching re-runs and waiting for Eli to pop out of stasis soon!

  • Holy Frak that was a big cliffhanger! Eli wasn’t doing what he said he was going to do at the end…did he just sacrifice himself for Rush? I can’t believe a 16 year franchise is ending like this. We deserve a ending!!! NOT MULTIPLE CLIFFHANGERS!

  • well it’s sad because the though SGU was not that great, in the end he was preety good.

  • I can’t believe it’s over. Cried the whole show. BYW, I thought we would finally meet the Furlings?

  • This suck frist Star Trek gose off the air now Star Gate is not going to have a show. Now we have to put up with those horriable SyFy movies.

  • damn. epic. great episode. I wonder what the writers were planning for season three…

If you asked me two years ago would I ever get choked up over the cancellation of a Stargate t.v. series I would have said, “what the eff is Stargate, and why are you taking to me?”
I really, really enjoyed every aspect of this series. boosh.

such a bittersweet ending. the show, at the very least, went out on a high-note.

  • I find it odd that they air this show in the US first and then Canada considering they filmed SGA in Vancouver? I could be wrong? SPACE channel should pick up this show…this finale episode was very anti-climactic and open for a third season…

Screw SyFy for destroying Stargate and airing its pathetic filth fake wrestling shows! Syfy go cancel yourself.

  • Maybe we need to start a Stargate Universe fan club and have a following like the Doctor who series. We need to keep this show alive and force the franchise of the the series to finish it the right way,not just end it abruptly because they just don’t want to pay for it.I was looking forward to the way I thought the series was going to end.Perhaps the writers and their little minds could not comprehend what the builders were looking for when they built the ship, and the way the ship recorded memory those two that had died.So many un-answered questions, don’t finish this show like this at least finish it out in a series of books and make some sense of the ending.

  • The ending was great afterall! It had the somber feel of the end and at the same time the epic and open posssibility, the option of continuation some day.I found it quite satisfying. The thing I liked the most is all of them finally working together ,completely as a team,as a family..family that they truly had become and that gets toasted to by Col.Rush in those final moments.
And the open option of what may come isn’t just three years ahead,in the series timeline,it could be a thousand years into future and so many open wonderous possibilities are there once they wake up.Suspended animation/the sleep is also symbolic of a stargate franchise that goes into that modus for a while now, until it’s most certainly revived tomorrow.Tomorrow I can’t wait to come!

  • Had to sign up to say thank you to the SGU cast and Writers, and in fact, to everyone that made Stargate possible. You gave me 14 years of amazing entertainment and the drive to study science and sociology.

But thank you most for the incredible ending to SGU, it was touching, but still left open the possibility to see Destiny and it’s crew on the screen again.

  • Well, it was the most epic stargate season finale of all. (in my op.). After watching the ep. I wasn’t crying, just similing, because I know this show will be continued. Don’t know when, but it WILL! As all you can see, the “end” of Stargate Universe haven’t brought back Stargate: Atlantis.
Stargate won’t die, I’ll always remember it, and I’m quite confident that all of you will.
So they will make those movies, and they will finish the journey of Destiny! Because they HAVE TO! :)

  • Sush a beautiful show, I will miss it so much. But it appears that the world isn’t willing to let shows like this air, sadness covers me. But hey, it was a good run and I will hope with all my hart for the comics (please go to darkhorse stargate) Buffy returned, and its like she never went. Hoping that Stargate returns on print, cause an story as amazing as SGU can’t just die off.

  • please if no more tv or movies are going to be made write a book so we can find out ???, (and when it is a top seller they will make more tv shows)

  • I’ve watched everything From the movie (which is my fav movie of all time) to Children of the Gods (X-Rated version too) (SG:1), from City of the Lost to The Rising (SG:A), from The Enemy at The Gate, to Air (SG:U), from the Keno webisodes, to finally, Gauntlet.. I said I wouldn’t watch it, but I owe it to the writers, the casts, THIS WAS STUNNING!!!

I’ve grew up watching Stargate, its my favorite show ever. I used to be a mad trekky but Stargate (especially in the last 6 years or so) has blew me away. All the 3 series have had their ups and downs, i’ve loved them all but SG:U has been my personal highlight, the 2nd season has been incredible, most of all the 17 years have been outstanding, Stargate isn’t my life, but I can safely say that a re-run or a DVD has always been there to cheer me up while growing up.

I’m so sad right now after watching the last 10 eps, back to back, i’m really gutted! I’m struggling to keep myself from crying, fighting to keep the anger in , but you know what? I’d rather end things without shouting blame to who-ever and give the franchise a big 17 years worth of thank you’s!

The writers have been amazing, but certain cast members deserve most of the credit. I’m not listing them all, i’d be typing forever..

    My favorites and my thankyou’s
    Park
    Rush
    O’Neil
    Carter
    McKay
    Eli
    T.J.
    Jackson
    Shepard
    Keller
    Grear
    Teal’c
    Vala
    Voilker
    Hammond
    Ginn
    Perry
    Wolsey
    Todd (Wraith)/Halling
    Wray
and!!! of course poor old Siler!

I hope one day we’ll see the gate again, not as a reboot, no alternative timelines, but carrying on from where it left off. We’ve got a lot of unanswered questions, more gates to walk through and billions of galaxies to fly to! Not forgetting Sam & Jack’s wedding of the Milennium!:)

  • That was an amazing ending, one that I don’t even think needs a movie to tie it all up. Not that I wouldn’t want one, but I’m oddly satisfied.

I cannot wait for the day that some new group of writers re-envisions the series.

16 seasons and three movies. Thanks to everyone involved. I’m proud to call it my favourite sci-fi franchise.

  • That was FANTASTIC!!!!!! The end left this open for a return at any time..They could easily revive this show with just a handful of the main characters….and add new ones…3 years later they awake, a supply line in place, the actors not available have their PODS fail and just not wake up…

  • I’ve watched it twice, i agree with everyone it was a perfect ending but also a perfect way to start fresh.. I just can’t get over how stunning SGU is

    *cries*

  • Farewell, Destiny! Until you jump out from FTL again! I think 3years from now SGU will continue! :D

  • The way things ended, the producers have bought themselves some time to hopefully set up the show somewhere else and a way to kill off characters if they can’t get the actors back.

    Well played.

  • After watching it, part of me feels like calling foul… We were told that the final episode was completely meant as a season cliffhanger – but it didn’t feel that way to me. It was left open in an unending way. They could start up the show again at any time, even with a different cast. They don’t really have any loose ends to tie up. Really, the only question that was left open was whether Eli would make it and obviously as one of the only consistently liked characters, he would have (barring the actor jumping ship for some reason but he was one of the only ones that was a true fan so that seems unlikely). Sure they could have taken it in a few different directions and perhaps they were planning to. But they could have just as easily done the same episode and meant it as the finale.

Why I feel like calling foul is because they’ve been saying that the cancellation was a complete surprise and that they had no idea it was going to happen and that they planned on their definitely being a third season…but I didn’t come away from the episode with the expectation of a continuation of the story. I guess it could be because I was aware of the cancellation while watching it. But I don’t know that I would have felt differently if I hadn’t. As I watched it, without paying attention to the time, I was expecting the show to end in a battle with one of the drone motherships…shields failing, systems going down, life and death moment type stuff. That’s a real cliffhanger. The term comes from the idea of someone left dangling from a cliff – not everyone asleep and one person looking out at the vastness of space. I’m not saying that it couldn’t be used as a season-ender, just that I don’t see it as a cliffhanger like it was being portrayed. Really, the cliffhanger talk from the producers, after seeing the episode, seems a bit more about bitterness (not that I would blame them for being bitter).

That said, I did like the episode. I think I still like Epilogue a little more and still think they should have reordered the episodes after finding out about the cancellation. In Syfy’s shoes, I would have cut the season short, had Epilogue be the finale and then tied the other 2 episodes together as a tv movie as a ‘lost tale’. Though I’m not sure if their contract would allow them to do such a thing. Actually, I would have gone a little further than that and would have cut the last 4 episodes up a bit and rebuilt them. But the specifics are too much to get into here.

As far as endings go, it was a good one. It at least ended on a good note. Eli came into his own. And while it obviously means that Destiny’s mission remains ongoing, it leaves the door open to potentially pick up the story at some point and even has the means to explain if the cast were different. In the end, it is unfortunate that it’s gone but it at least bowed out gracefully. And so ends the franchise for now.

  • SEASON FINALE , Not Stargate final was perfect.
i believe the writers somehow deep down they heart know that the show would get canceled suddenly because at the end the whole ship goes dark , just like the set right now and the ship continues her journey ( i pointed the ship with her because i believe its alive)
lets hope that syfy get his mind back and let the writers continue their story.
one more thing to the SGA’s fans
So you are satisfied now? you kept telling that sgu canceled sga and now we don’t have any gate at all because you think that sgu is the reason of sga’s cancellation now you can sit and watch wrestling cause it’s Sci fi and it’s better than SGU,Better than stargate, better than…
uh one more thing people wanted humor from the show there is just one think at SGU peoples life were at stake and they didn’t have more time to say jock to each other , if you wanted humor you could have watch the comedies show and watch SGU as the Stargate not a comedy show.
lets hope some other network pick the show , networks that let the writers finish their story like CW.
just hope that we can see Destiny again.

  • @far2005 BW: No. You guys are actually pretty predictable (take no offense, most fan groups are). Unfortunately, you represent a very small portion of the actual viewing audience we need for financial success. thats him saying sga fans have no impact on the show. And quit trying to point the blame in the wrong direction.

  • @mythos: I agree with you, especially the part where you say a new cast could take over if it came back as a cheap,made-in-Bulgaria SyFy movie. (The “cheap,made-in-Bulgaria SyFy movie” part is me saying that.) I would rather have cast members from all three shows bring Destiny home, but, the cost would be too much for SyFy and MGM. Maybe some day we’ll get that or, at the very least, “Stargate Bulgaria” Yes, that was part-joke, part-serious.

  • @far2005 – You’re apparently late to the party, but word broke a while ago that Stargate is done for now. Even the production staff is gone. No one did pick it up. There’s no one left to make it.

  • I loved the final show; fitting that SGU started with ELI (chronologically) and ended with him, at the other end of the Universe. Now please produce a canon graphic novel or two (I bought the Firefly one, loved it).

Artistically the producers did everything right IMHO.

  • Oh, by the way, I watched SGU from “Air” to “Gauntlet” and enjoyed watching it. Yes, it was too slow, story-wise and most of the characters were unlikeable in the beginning, which didn’t make sense to me (and others, I think.). In my opinion, the producers are to blame for show ending, SyFy, just a little bit to blame. Remember, I’m not right or wrong, just giving my opinion.

  • @Eagalis: actually i can remember the very first day of the show that almost half of the SGA’s fans ( i was and i am one of them i just couldn’t leave Stargate i kind of like the gate it self ) says that Universe killed Atlantis so we gonna boycott SGU so it’s get canceled and we get Atlantis back but what happened then? SGU canceled , SGA’s set down , all of Stargate movies canceled and bingo we have no stargate at all to watch uh and i think they have created a website too .
I just that wish Roland Emmerich have created the gate with 10 chevron so we maybe could have another show ( but i belive the sgu’s fan would have bycott it and says hey you killed sgu so we will kill you) anyway it’s shame that we killed a 15 years old kid.
well i’m going to cancel my cable… i probably get my service again with The walking dead.
cause fringe is over the air , how i met your mother is over the air ,The event is over the air , The big bang theory is over the air and now that there is no stargate on the cable at all so no need to have cable and i can cut my spending over some #^%* like wrestling and save some money until AMC bring back The walking dead.Thank god that FOX people had mind ( Frankly syfy’s doesn’t) and renewed the Fringe because there would be now real sci-fi to watch… and the walking dead rating tells the story..
    …:We loved SGU a lot,but syfy likes money more:…

  • @axcel1 – You can’t judge a whole show based on one season, a new type of show needs 2 or 3 to get going. yes it was slow but that didnt kill it..

RATINGS! – They should of brought it to the UK, on the BBC, would be still going!

  • I can`t seem to find many words now… But in my dreams i hope to se Destiny on the other side some day.. And Atlantis on it`s way back to the pegasus galaxy ofcourse.

But for all it`s worth, we had a good run.

  • Oooh, you know what? I have an idea :-) I bet Eli would find a solution to “The Chair” delimma, bring Ginn out of quarantine and then upload himself into the ship’s system. If he ultimately came to the conclusion that he would die from starvation, he could “upload” himself and preserve his consciousness. His body may die, but then he’d be with Ginn. Afterall, “It could be enough”. What are the odds that the stasis chambers could also upload the minds into the ship’s systems? The ancient ship in the Atlantis series had that capability, right? Their minds would go on and their bodies remain in stasis :-) Perhaps that was supposed to be season 3? Destiny is capable of many unknown possibilities :-) Perhaps Destiny is on the road to ascension. Hmm.

  • Another cliffhanger oh well what are you going to do can’t complain the episode was amazing. When they started to brainstorm the idea of going around and destroying the command ships I thought it was going to be like SGA “be all my sins remembered” now that would of topped the season off with a cherry. But still great episode!

  • I have created an account with gateworld just to comment on this. Many times I’ve been tempted to comment before, nothing quite like this episode has finally convinced me. In my opinion, it was a perfect ending. It wasn’t epic, and it wasn’t the true end that we know SGU, and all of stargate, deserves. But that’s what makes this ending so perfect. At the beginning of this series, we were told the ships name was Destiny, and then at about the beginning of this season, we were by Rush that, “It was never about going home, it’s about getting us to where we’re going.” We know that Destiny’s mission is suppose to be life altering, giving me the desire to see the grand ending Stargate deserves even more. Then came Camille’s closing statements in Epilogue: ‘When we first arrived here, we thought we failed. But now we know, it has always been about the journey.’ We may never see this end that Stargate deserves so much, but still, this episode somehow offers hope. It wasn’t a regular cliffhanger that makes it feel like the journey was just cut off like so many other shows. Instead, it was almost as though, just like these characters were taking a break, going into stasis, so were we, so was the journey, and the franchise. When I first sat down to watch this episode, I told myself, “This could easily be the last of Stargate we ever see.” But this one episode offers more hope to some continuation at some point it time than any other ending could have offered. This journey still isn’t done, and at some point in time, it will be continued. That was the theme I got from last night’s episode. And maybe, in three years time…

  • It seems to me like the writers and producers saved the best for last. “Gauntlet” was a fitting conclusion to the series even if it wasn’t originally intended to be so. The DVD will be released soon and it has some behind-the-scenes info and perhaps some interviews of the writers who may tell us how they would have continued the series had it not been canceled.

The stasis pod idea is a good one and allows the franchise to continue with the old cast, a new cast, cast members/characters from SG:1 and SGA, or some combination in the future. No need to “kill off” characters in the stasis pods. Just wake them up as the actors become available for a guest appearances. Otherwise, just leave them in stasis.

I want take this opportunity to thank the producers, cast, and crew for a great 17 years. Stargate is a legacy they can all be proud of. I also want to thank all the loyal fans who stuck by Stargate through thick and thin. Without the core of loyal fans, none of this would have been possible.

Perhaps we’ll have more Stargate in the future. Who knows? We all know that in Science Fiction, like life itself, anything is possible. God bless you all!

  • Great Episode, great and open ending.

I’ve watched every single episode and every movie and just can’t believe its all over.

Hoping for the franchise to restart in some manner later on.
