Stargate finishes strong in May sweeps|
SG-1 takes fifth place overall in U.S. syndication
June 4, 2001
O'Neill and his team finished the spring sweeps period with a 2.8, below the freshman "Andromeda" (3.0) -- but edging out "Xena: Warrior Princess" (2.7), which ended its six-year run this season. "Stargate SG-1" finished its third season in syndication last month with the first airing of "Nemesis".
May episodes included:
"Maternal Instinct" - 2.6 / 2.8, -24 - Week of May 7
As usual, "Entertainment Tonight Weekend" and off-network repeats of "E.R." and "The X-Files" finished at the top of the ratings pile. ("Stargate SG-1" is ranked as a first-run entertainment hour in the syndication market rather than as an off-network rerun, because its first-run in the U.S. is on a subscription cable channel, not a network available to the general public.)
Though Stargate's 2.8 rating represents a 15 percent decline from a year ago, it declined less than most other shows suffering from a erosion in overall syndication viewership.
For viewers who do not subscribe to Showtime, Season Four finds its way to syndication beginning in October.
