Shanks happy to be back on SG-1
APRIL 10, 2003

Michael Shanks is happy to be back on the set in Vancouver, B.C. for the filming of Stargate SG-1's seventh season, he told Sci-Fi Magazine. In this month's issue (Vol. 9, No. 2), the actor -- who plays Dr. Daniel Jackson, of course -- told Thomasina Gibson that he is "truly delighted to be working with the SG-1 team once more."

Shanks said that Richard Dean Anderson's ("Jack O'Neill") abbreviated weekly shooting schedule will allow relationships between the other three members of SG-1 to come to the fore. "I think that all the dynamics between the characters, i.e., between Daniel and Carter and Carter and Teal'c and Teal'c and Daniel, have all been underdeveloped during the first five years of the show. Last year and for sure this year, all those dynamics are getting a chance to grow and bear fruit, and that'll be great for the audience and for the actors, too."

Shanks also spoke about a number of upcoming episodes. Beware of Season Seven spoilers below!

Season Seven begins with "Fallen," in which Jackson finds himself at odds with those who live on the higher plane of existence. "Basically, it comes down to the philosophical difference of Daniel realizing that what he thought of as Utopia is actually full of dos and don'ts, and he's not actually going to accomplish much by staying on the path he's currently on," he said. "So, rather than stay and continue his spiritual journey, Daniel chooses to go back and conclude the unfinished business in the 'real' world, as it were. So in the episode entitled 'Fallen,' we find that he's basically been tossed out of heaven, and we find him buck naked in the middle of some park with no memory of who he is or how he got there or what happened in his previous life."

"Orpheus" will see both Daniel and Teal'c having to deal with major changes their lives -- Daniel having become a mortal again, and Teal'c having to rely on tretonin after losing his symbiote. "It's very multi-layered and there's a lot of interesting interaction between Teal'c and Daniel," Shanks said. "As actors, Christopher and I get to bite into a rather large sandwich with that one, and to see what we do with it should be fun. We don't often get the chance to play off one another, so I'm looking forward to dealing with some tougher emotional material there."

New TV Zone special issue available
APRIL 1, 2003

The newest TV Zone special issue is here, and it's another gigantic feature on Stargate SG-1! TV Zone Special #50 presents a complete wrap-up of Season Six, along with interviews from the cast and crew.

Following on the heels of TV Zone's last Stargate special (which focused on previewing the first half of Season Six), this issue reviews Season Six as a whole -- with special attention to the last 11 episodes. Interviewees include Richard Dean Anderson ("Jack O'Neill"), Amanda Tapping ("Samantha Carter"), Christopher Judge ("Teal'c"), Corin Nemec ("Jonas Quinn"), Don S. Davis (George Hammond), Teryl Rothery (Janet Fraiser), Michael Shanks (Daniel Jackson), and several production crew members.

Also featured in the magazine are design sketches, CGI renderings, set photos and more.

The magazine is available in two covers -- a green cover featuring SG-1, and a yellow cover with Jack and Sam. In the U.K., the magazine also comes with a special VCD disc (PAL) (green cover only), with extra interviews with the cast and crew. Interviews were conducted during the final days of Season Six, before the crew knew that they'd be back for another year.

Look for TV Zone on news stands now! In the U.S., the magazine can usually be found at major bookstores like Borders and Barnes & Noble. It is also available for ordering online at Visimag.com for $9.99 U.S. (plus shipping). With another year of the show now in the works, expect a Season Seven special issue in the not-too-distant future.
