Un-ascended Ancient with many powers of a hok'taur who arrived on Earth following the defeat of his people in the first siege of Atlantis. Merlin moved freely among humans, eventually becoming more of legend and myth, likely by his design. While on Earth, Merlin had many dealings with man, including King Arthur. Dr. Jackson suspected Merlin, who was just a human far along the evolutionary path, helped King Arthur ascend in the underworld of Avalon. Merlin carved a tablet with an Ancient cipher leading to Avalon, an item that eventually made its way off the planet and into the hands of an associate of Vala Mal Doran (perhaps Arlos), who she subsequently stole it from.
