Paynan rejected the peoples' initial plans to trade their planets natural naquadah deposits, fearing that the humans would eat his people out of house and home. However, Colonel Jack O'Neill insisted that SG-1 was only interested in fair trade. Paynan closed his ears when SG-1 spoke the seemingly impossible, that the Edoran Fire Rain would strike the ground and throw their land into chaos. He also discouraged his fellow villagers to depart. As a result, a third of the village, including Paynan, remained behind. He was later shocked when he learned that Talmar and three families were killed in Talmar's home, as the Fire Rain had struck and destroyed the residence.
