Appointed "chief" of Olesia's island prison population, sentenced to the island for murdering eight. According to Eldon he has since murdered three while on the island. Intelligent and crafty, he conducted the firing squad that successfully shot down Colonel John Sheppard's Puddle Jumper.
Once on the ground, he ordered Dr. McKay and Eldon to commence repairs, or he would kill all of the new prisoners until there was no one left.
Torrell soon learned how to operate the Jumper's supply of P-90s as well as two-way radios, which he eventually used to his advantage, placing one in the prison shack to monitor their plans for escape. He allowed Eldon, without his knowledge, to set them free and head for the Stargate where he and his men attempted to ambush the team.
With the arrival of a fleet of Wraith cruisers Colonel Sheppard had Dr. Weir's Puddle Jumper dial one of the planets that was considered for Atlantis's Alpha Site, freeing Torrell and most, if not all, of the prison population from death by the Wraith.
