Russian colonel assigned to the S.G.C. to travel to P2X-338 and discover the whereabouts of a missing Russian Stargate team. Zukhov was annoyed at the prospect of following orders under Colonel O'Neill (as the two were both of equal military rank), and went about his own way inside the ziggurat on 338, tripping a booby trap that locked both units inside. Zukhov was under orders by the Russian government to procure the Eye of Tiamat for study as a possible weapon or source of great power, which was the entire purpose for the previous Russian Stargate team's mission to 338. When he and O'Neill became trapped in a corner of the ziggurat by the Goa'uld Tiamat (in the body of Major Vallarin), he admitted to the subterfuge, and pretended to throw the Eye to the possessed officer.
