Robert C. Cooper was a busy guy in the lead-up to the start of principal photography on SG-1's ninth season and Atlantis's second season. Not only did he script the SG-1 opening three-parter, but he also wrote Atlantis's "Runner," which introduced new series regular Ronon Dex. In the case of the latter, it was most fitting that Rob write the script since he was the one who pitched out the Ronon character to begin with. In the case of the former -- well, Rob had no one to blame but himself because the story was originally slated to be a mere two-parter.

In the end, we couldn't have been happier with the results. Rob wrote a great intro to the new SG-1, establishing some terrific new characters, a fearsome new villain, and setting the groundwork for the season(s) to come.

- Rob established himself as the Monarch of Meditations with classics like: "If you immediately know the candlelight is fire, then the meal was cooked a long time ago." Now, writing for the Priors, he's vying for the title of Prince of Parables. But, alas, not all parables make the cut.

One in particular comes to mind. In one dramatic scene, the Prior turns and says: "Amos played his flute and could not stop." Amos? Flute? Perhaps weary of the laughter it engendered from Paul and I whenever we read the line during script meetings, it was dropped.

- This is the first and last time you'll see Gerak in his armor. From here on in, he'll be appearing in the more dignified robes commonly sported by the Jaffa leadership on Dakara. The armor proved so uncomfortable and awkward to sit and move around in that poor Lou Gossett requested and got a permanent wardrobe change.

- In the director's cut, there is a touching exchange between Harrid and Sallis as they await their fiery deaths. They profess their love for one another seconds before they are consumed by the flames. After Daniel and Vala awaken at the S.G.C., Vala asks Daniel what he said to her -- but Daniel doesn't remember saying anything.
