Free Jaffa Nation

From The Stargate Omnipedia

A nation of independent Jaffa who have come together following the downfall of the Goa'uld. Born from the underground Jaffa resistance movement, their base of operations is Dakara, a planet deep inside the territory of the former System Lord, Baal, though they plan to expand outward into the galaxy.

In its first, formative months the young nation included at least two rival factions vying for power, one led by Gerak, a stern Jaffa warrior who has manipulated the High Council into giving him power. His political opponents included Teal'c and Bra'tac, who believe the Free Jaffa Nation should be democratic in governance, rather than ruled by a High Council where votes are appropriated to representatives based on military assets. Gerak was soon convinced by an Ori Prior to lead his people on the path of Origin, the deadly religion that enforces conversion with the threat of annihilation.

After Gerak betrayed the Ori and was killed, the High Council voted to hold democratic elections and make the Free Jaffa Nation a democracy. The arrogant and hard-headed Se'tak was appointed leader, and even his use of the Ancient super-weapon on Dakara could not stop the Ori when they attacked the planet and annihilated the weapon, leaving Dakara in ruins and the Jaffa Nation once again in a precarious position, without a formal government.
