My first episode of Stargate SG-1 was “In the Line of Duty,” which I pretty much tripped over one late night when nothing else was on. As someone who was fairly snobbish in my sci-fi viewing (i.e., pretty much ignoring a show unless the words “Star” and “Trek” were at the beginning) I was truly blown away by how good the episode was to me. I found the characters compelling and I loved the chemistry they all shared with each other.
I of course wondered who the guy with the gold thingie on his head and the blond woman were as I didn’t remember them being in the movie; but I soon realized that they were integral members of the team and without them the show would not have been what it was.
After that … I made every effort to see other SG-1 episodes in syndication and decided to get Showtime so I could see them first run, which at the time was the beginning of Season Four. “Upgrades” was my first first run episode and I’ve been completely hooked ever since.
For me, it was all about the dynamic of our team; the natural way they interacted with each other and the way they cared about each other that kept me coming back for more.
