The new Midway Space Station will play an on-going role in the upcoming fourth season of Stargate Atlantis, writer-producer Martin Gero told GateWorld in a recent interview.
Constructed by Earth, the station sits in the vast, empty space between the Pegasus and Milky Way galaxies and serves as a vital connection point for the intergalactic gate bridge, devised by Rodney McKay and Samantha Carter and introduced in the Season Three episode “The Return, Part 1.”
At that point the station was incomplete and open to space, requiring the use of a Puddle Jumper to travel over the bridge from Atlantis to Stargate Command on Earth. But future plans were for it to be completely enclosed to allow travel by foot.
Fans will get a first glimpse of the completed station in the fourth season premiere, Gero said. “You’ll get that in ‘Adrift.’ And we’re working on another story later in the year where that will play very largely into one of the episodes.
“In ‘Adrift’ we kind of get a glimpse of it. It just starts to come on line, and then is used in a couple of other stories. Then we’ll do a big ‘Gate Bridge’ episode.”
The latter is no doubt “Midway,” currently slated to be the sixteenth episode of the season.
