THE SG-1 TEAM
When he first laid eyes on the Stargate, Daniel had just failed yet again at convincing his colleagues about his unorthodox theories, and had been evicted from his apartment. He found redemption when he joined the Stargate program, figuring out how to use the device — and then falling in love and living for a year on the distant planet of Abydos. Daniel’s theories were right all along: the pyramids on Earth had been built as landing platforms for alien space ships. But, while he could tell no one, nor redeem his academic career, Daniel made a new life as a member of SG-1.
The first elite unit sent through the gate to explore other planets, make allies, and seek out technology to be used to defend Earth from alien attack, SG-1 was first led by Colonel Jack O’Neill. Jack ran black ops for the military in the 1980s, but had fallen in a suicidal depression after his young son, Charlie, shot himself with Jack’s own handgun. He joined the Stargate program intending to lead a suicide mission, but in the process he rediscovered himself and a purpose in life.
Jack and Daniel were joined on SG-1 by Captain Samantha Carter, a brilliant astrophysicist and pilot who helped create the computer system that controls the Stargate. Sam had always wanted to be an astronaut — until she learned that she could travel to countless other worlds by simply stepping through the gate.
Also on the original SG-1 team was Teal’c, who previously served as First Prime to the evil Goa’uld Apophis. His people suppressed into slavery by the Goa’uld, Teal’c dreamed for years of freeing them. Eventually the dream of freedom for all Jaffa would be realized, when the Goa’uld were defeated.
After eight years, Jack took a new job outside of the S.G.C. and SG-1 got a new leader: Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell. A southern boy and daring fighter pilot, Cam has a very personal family connection to the history of the Stargate — one that not even he knows about yet.
Finally, two years ago Stargate Command welcomed (with a bit of trepidation) Vala Mal Doran, a cunning thief with a dark past. Though now she is a trusted friend with a wicked sense of humor, Vala was once host to the conniving Goa’uld queen Qetesh. Qetesh maintained a long relationship with Lord Baal, one of SG-1’s greatest foes. She was eventually captured by the Tok’ra, and the human host Vala was freed from being a prisoner locked away inside her own body.
