The fourth annual convention “Amanda Tapping – A Weekend With Her Fans” is set for November 13 to 15, 2009 – and sold out in just minutes when tickets went on sale Saturday, organizers from GABIT Events told GateWorld. Titled “AT4 – Reflections,” the event will take place in London, and offers fans of the Samantha Carter actress a rare opportunity to meet the actress in a relatively small and intimate setting.
Two hundred and seventy fans will attend the event, with 90 of those able to attend the Friday night cocktail party with Amanda. “The cocktail party tickets sold out in less than seven minutes for AT3,” G4 director and GABIT chairman Julia Hague said.
With Tapping having moved on from Stargate to her new series, Sanctuary, last year, organizers hope that her fan base will continue to grow.
“This year, as well as the interest we’ve received from our past GABIT attendees, we’ve also been receiving a lot of enquiries from fans new to Amanda’s fandom. They’ve become fans through watching Sanctuary and some are even discovering Stargate because of it.”
GABIT Events was formed in 2002 by four fans, nicknamed the “G4” – Julia Hague, Becky Preen, Kay Jacobs and John Goode. Their goal is to organize small and relaxed weekend events for Amanda and her fans, and in the process to raise money for Amanda’s own preferred charities.
“When we first started with AT1, we had a vision of what we wanted to do. Amanda had faith in us and we just hoped that her fans would also have faith in us and turn up,” Hague said. “That first event was in 2005 and we were bowled over by the response. When we played the surprise promo film for AT4 at our last event in May and the entire hall erupted with excitement, I knew we’d got it right.”
“We had over 500 people trying to register within minutes of the registration page going live, and only 270 tickets available,” she said. “I think that speaks volumes about how much Amanda’s fans want to attend our event in London. We’re thrilled and completely bowled over.”

Sold out in only a few minutes? Wow that’s awesome
Cool new comment system, though it didn’t let me keep my apostrophe :(
WTG G4 you guys are awesome! Amanda we love you! :D
Interesting new comment system. Is there a way to change your password? The one that they gave me I’ll never remember. LOL
@ EryasDax
yes there is a way, just under “leave a comment, it says your name, click on it then scroll down and you ‘ll see “new password” :D
Yay I found out how to put an apostrophe in :P
Wish I could have got tickets for that!
I went to AT3 last Spring and literally bought tickets the second it opened. About 10 minutes later I went back to see the site and the cocktail party tickets were already sold out. It was crazy…not for me since I had a ticket, but for those other poor souls :( The cocktail party in terms of meeting Amanda was okay. She sat at each table for like 10 minutes talked a bit, took a group photo at the table and then bounced to the next table. Then after all the tables had met her she left through a back… Read more »
that is great
and nice new system
First and foremost, thanks for the new system of logging in and leaving comments.
Second, I am so happy that Amanda Tapping has found life as a lead in a new series. There are too few series on TV in SCIFI where there is a female lead that kicks butt. Sanctuary may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it has a nice ensemble cast of great character actors and is a leisurely way to spend an hour on friday nights.
what… i never knew that existed O.o and in london too… i’m allways too late…shame… mind you, i never would’ve gotten in even if i did know about it.
I have been so very lucky and been able to attend all 3 Gabit Events. I find it strange to hear someone refer to the event as being ‘non friendly’ or that the people attending where not friendly. I went by myself to AT1. I was scared and lonely and wondered what the heck I had gotten myself into. Within minutes of entering the foyer in the hotel just before the event kicked off I had lost track of the amount of people I had said hello to or conversed with. Now I attend for those people just as much… Read more »
battlestargalacticgirl – I’m not quite sure which AT3 event you went to, but it certainly wasn’t the same one as me! I have been lucky enough to attend all three Gabit events and for me, even after the first event, I find that they are like coming together with distant family members. I cannot believe that at the end of AT1 I had so many people to hug who at the start of the event had been complete strangers and that has just continued for AT2 and AT3. I have also attended 2 of the 3 cocktail parties and again… Read more »
I have attended all 3 Gabit events, and have nothing but love for this event, it’s organisers, and it’s attendees (and of course Amanda ;D). I went to AT1, not knowing anyone, but made friends really fast. everyone was so friendly and helpful. the organisers are some of the loveliest people you’ll ever meet. They do a wonderful job, really caring about both attendees and Amanda. AT3 was one of the best weekends of my life! The cocktailparty, Q&As, the auction, the charity, the parties, and the times in between I got to spent with friends. Amanda’s just amazing and… Read more »
I too have been fortunate enough to attend all three previous events. For me, AT1 was about a weekend with Amanda. I meet so many new people in the lobby before the event ever started, I was never alone. AT2 and AT3 were more about being reunited with those friends AND the added bonus of “can you believe Amanda came to our “reunion”?! I just can’t imagine anyone not having a good time, being lonely or feeling like the G4, Staff and/or Stewards were unfriendly. They are running at full speed all weekend. You’d be more likely to see them… Read more »
I was lucky enough to attend AT2 and AT3, won’t make AT4. :( Had a blast at both events and met tons of people. The G4 and staff are wonderful and bend over backwards to make sure everyone is happy. And of course, it goes without saying, that Amanda is the epitome of warmth and graciousness. Hopefully, I’ll be able to make it if there is an AT5.
For AT2 I was on the waiting list for a cocktail ticket until the last minute but found the event to be very enjoyable and the people very friendly. I went back to AT3 having made lots of friends at AT2 and plan on attending AT4 mainly to see friends from across the pond that I have made at the last two events. As a veteran of many different cons I have found the GABIT events to be the most professional fan friendly events I have had the pleasure to attend, which I why I personally keep going back. Fair… Read more »
I’ve been fortunate enough to attend AT1, AT2 and AT3 and very fortunate to attend the cocktail party for AT2 and AT3. I had a wonderful time at each event. From the first time, AT1, there was such friendship and laughter. People meeting new people and talking. It was wonderful! Everyone on the GABIT team and the G4 was friendly and kind, going out of their way to be helpful and they have made each event enjoyable and fun. I’ve attended other events, but I must say that GABIT run events are by far the most warm and friendly I’ve… Read more »
I am a big Tapping fan but just wondering, what exactly do you do at these conventions for 3 days?? Round of golf? Movie perhaps??
@Phenom, I was wondering about that too before I attended AT3, that was like this: Fridayevening: cocktailparty for those lucky enough to have tickets (dinner followed by Amanda circulating the tables and talking with everyone). Saturday, very early start lol. Opening ceremony, Q&A 1, picturetaking (if it wasn’t your turn for picture, there was other stuff to do, like watch Breakdown, and just hang out with friends). Lunch. Q&A 2, more picturetaking, charity auction (Amanda running around with the items auctioned, great fun) and at night a dicso. Before the disco a group of Gateworlders held a chocolatetasting party, where… Read more »
I have only been to AT3 for one day last year and even with missing a lot of stuff, I had the time of my life. I wanted nothing more than having the chance to do AT4 and I’m unimaginably happy that I have the opportunity to do so. So from my experiences I can tell, that the G4 and all of the Gabit staff did a great job to make sure that everyone was having a good time. I’m extremely proud that I could call some of the people I met at AT3 or afterwards on the internet close… Read more »
The great comments are no surprise at all. I’m sorry battlestargalacticgirl didn’t have a great time. What convention did you attend in New York that Amanda had more than ten minutes to spend with each attendee? I would like to come to the next one. You said it was free, so I’m thinking it wasn’t a convention at all, in which case, why the comparison? The Gabit cons are wonderful. With assigned seating you don’t have a cattle call situation every morning, you’re guaranteed a photo with her, and when you are in the autograph line she knows who she’s… Read more »
EYESONMAGNUS & THE KIT KAT LADY – Judging from the attacks on my post where I expressed my honest opinion and how I felt- I would say that you guys were probably the unfriendly people I met. If you are attacking me for an email I can only imagine what great people you are in person. Please tell me where in my post I said security BOTHERED me? “If you aren’t prepared to speak up and make conversation” – When did I mention I was a church mouse that could not speak up? Yes, I met people that I still… Read more »
Battlestargalacticgirl – since at no point in your original post you had mentioned you were jetlagged, etc my response was based on your negative comments towards both an event and organiser which I happen to disagree with. Gabit aren’t perfect and everyone is entitled to their own opinion and it is a shame that the whole event has appeared to colour both your view of Gabit and Amanda herself. Again, since I have attended all of Gabit’s events so far and not yet come across an unfriendly person I can only assume that I didn’t get the chance to speak… Read more »
I was one of those lucky persons, who got a ticket for the whole weekend. Expensive, but what use it only to have one for one day, when it is Amanda you’ll be meeting? And now that I will be coming over from Denmark, I could might as well get the whole package. I am looking so foreward for this experience.
(And joins in on how interesting this new comment system is.)
Even if you only get the weekend ticket, it is still most definitely worth it. Obviously a charmed pass is the icing on the cake, but being there for the weekend will still be something that you won’t forget in a hurry.
